Chapter 135 Probing Operations of the Defense Device

Su Wanqing walked up to Lu Zhao and saw him staring at the screen, his brows furrowed, his fingers flying across the keyboard.

"Lu Zhao, how is it? Have you found anything?"

Lu Zhao didn't look up, his voice sounding tired. "The situation is more complicated than I imagined. The underlying code of this defense device is very sophisticated, and... it has a strong anti-intrusion mechanism. I just tried to crack a part of the logic, and it automatically activated the defense program. Although the level is not high, it is enough to make me vigilant."

"Anti-intrusion mechanism? What exactly is it?" Su Wanqing asked, her tone tinged with worry.

"Similar to a disguised firewall, once it detects someone trying to modify or read data, it will automatically generate interference information and even trace the location of the intruder in reverse."

Lu Zhao finally raised his head, his eyes filled with seriousness. "I have to be careful and infiltrate slowly, for fear that we might expose our position if we're not careful."

Lin Che walked to Lu Zhao's side and looked at the data stream jumping on the screen.

"This level of defense exceeds that of ordinary military facilities. What exactly is Li Guoqiang hiding? Why is he protecting this device so meticulously?"

"I suspect this device isn't just for defense against zombies."

Su Wanqing said slowly, "It may have other uses, a use that Li Guoqiang is not willing to let people know."

She walked to the control panel of the device and carefully observed the buttons and display screen.

"The layout of these buttons is a bit strange; it doesn't look like a standard control panel, but more like... a smokescreen."

The voice of the night suddenly echoed in Lin Che's mind: "Su Wanqing's intuition is right. Those seemingly ordinary buttons are likely some kind of trap signal device. Once pressed, they will trigger a higher level of defense system and may even expose our location to Li Guoqiang."

"A trap signal device?" Lin Che frowned. "Night, how did you know?"

"Observe. Observe carefully." The voice of the night was calm and indifferent.

"The material and texture of those buttons are clearly different from the other parts, and their placement is also too conspicuous. Such an obvious oversight would not occur in engineering design."

Su Wanqing listened to Lin Che and Ye's conversation and a thought struck her. "Lu Zhao, can you trace the signal source of these buttons? See where they're connected to?"

"Trying it out," Lu Zhao said immediately after starting the operation, a few minutes later.

"The signal source for these buttons is connected to a separate control module located at the bottom of the device. I cannot access it directly and need to observe it more closely."

Lin Che walked around the device, stretched out his hand, and used his supernatural ability to manipulate the water flow, meticulously scanning the device's external structure.

"Something's not right. There are some parts here... that don't seem to be made of metal."

"What do you mean?" Su Wanqing asked.

"The surface of some parts has fine textures that resemble biological tissue."

Lin Che's voice carried a hint of doubt. "Moreover, the temperature of these components is also higher than that of the surrounding metal components."

"Semi-biological characteristics?" Su Wanqing's heart skipped a beat. "Could it be that Li Guoqiang used a virus... to modify these devices?"

Xiao Ran stood to the side, observing silently. He looked at the complex devices with a look of disgust on his face.

"This technology... is too cruel. Combining viruses and machines is simply monstrous!"

He couldn't resist walking up to the device, raising a dagger in his hand, and stabbing it fiercely into a metal casing.

I'm going to destroy it completely!

"No!" Su Wanqing shouted, trying to stop her.

Xiao Ran's dagger struck the metal casing, but instead produced a piercing metallic scraping sound. The dagger failed to penetrate the metal casing and bounced back.

"What?" Xiao Ran was somewhat surprised. "How can this metal shell be so hard?"

Just as he was about to attack again, the metal casing suddenly began to deform, automatically repairing the damage caused by the dagger.

"Intelligent repair mechanism!" Lu Zhao exclaimed. "This device has the ability to repair itself! Xiao Ran, if you continue like this, you'll only be wasting your energy."

Su Wanqing walked up to Xiao Ran and gently patted his shoulder.

"Xiao Ran, calm down. I know you're angry about this technology, but now is not the time to act impulsively. We need more scientific methods, not brute force."

Xiao Ran took a deep breath and slowly lowered the dagger in his hand.

“I know, Su Wanqing. I just… can’t stand this kind of cruel technology.”

“I understand,” Su Wanqing said. “But we must remain calm to find a breakthrough. Lu Zhao, continue tracking the signal source. Lin Che, continue scanning the external structure of the device to see if you can find any more clues.”

"Understood," Lu Zhao and Lin Che replied simultaneously.

"Night, have you made any new discoveries?" Su Wanqing asked.

"That control module hides some secrets," Night's voice echoed in her mind.

"It has a close connection with the surveillance system in the area where Li Guoqiang lives. Perhaps we can find more clues there."

"A surveillance system?" Su Wanqing frowned slightly. "It seems we're headed to Li Guoqiang's office next."

"Be careful, the security measures in that office must be very tight."

The night's voice carried a hint of warning. "Li Guoqiang will definitely not let us get close easily."

Su Wanqing nodded. "I know. But we have to go. To uncover Li Guoqiang's conspiracy, we must pay any price."

She looked at the complex devices in front of her, her heart filled with vigilance.

She knew they were getting closer to the truth, but at the same time, they were facing enormous danger.

Lu Zhao's fingers flew across the keyboard, and the data on the screen kept scrolling.

“I found some strange parameters in the signal source, which seem to be related to human brainwaves.”

"Related to brainwaves?" Su Wanqing asked疑惑地. "What do you mean?"

“I’m not sure yet; further analysis is needed,” Lu Zhao said.

"But if my guess is correct, then this device may have some effect on human consciousness."

Lin Che suddenly exclaimed, "I've found it! There's a hidden interface at the bottom of the device, which connects to a tiny pipe through which a pale blue liquid flows."

"A pale blue liquid?" Su Wanqing's heart tightened. "Could it be a mutated virus?"

“I used my superpower to analyze it, and the liquid contained a large number of gene fragments, and... some of these gene fragments are very similar to gene fragments of the zombie virus.”

Lin Che's voice trembled slightly. "It seems that Li Guoqiang really did use the virus to modify these devices."

“It seems our guess was correct,” Su Wanqing said.

"Li Guoqiang not only wants to control the zombie virus, he also wants to use the virus to enhance the device's defense capabilities, and even... control human consciousness."
