Chapter 133 Testing
Su Wanqing's thoughts, like tangled threads, slowly unraveled as Lu Zhao presented his report.
A secret base, modified zombies... Li Guoqiang's ambitions are truly grand.
She walked to a corner of the operations room, poured herself a glass of warm water, and unconsciously rubbed the jade bracelet on her left wrist with her fingertips.
This bracelet seemed to have become her only support. Although the rebates after each "purchase" seemed a bit unbelievable to her, in the current situation, she could never have too many supplies.
"Lu Zhao, conduct a full-scale tracking of the backup line. Be sure to find the exact location of the base, as well as the surrounding terrain and defense deployment."
Su Wanqing put down her water glass, her tone calm yet firm. "Xiao Ran, strengthen surveillance around the weapons depot, paying particular attention to personnel entering and leaving. Lin Che, how's the sample analysis progressing?"
"It's still in progress," Lin Che's voice came from the laboratory, sounding somewhat anxious.
"The structure of that component is very complex, and the quantity is too small, so extraction and analysis will take time. But I can preliminarily determine that it is not naturally occurring, but artificially synthesized."
"Artificially synthesized?" Su Wanqing frowned. "It seems Li Guoqiang has put a lot of effort into creating zombies."
“It’s not just hard work,” a deep voice sounded behind her. It was night.
"And madness. He may have given up on finding a cure and chosen to embrace the apocalypse."
Su Wanqing didn't turn around, but simply said, "Night, your prophecies are always full of pessimism."
"The prediction is not pessimism, but an objective assessment." The voice in the night was as calm as ever. "Li Guoqiang will not easily give up his plan. He will take action and fight back."
Thinking of this, she suddenly remembered the unusual alarm from the armory. At that time, she and Lin Che were busy analyzing Li Guoqiang's plan and hadn't paid much attention to these details.
“Lu Zhao,” Su Wanqing spoke again, “re-show me the armory alarm logs.”
Lu Zhao quickly displayed the alarm log on the screen. Su Wanqing examined it carefully and discovered that the alarm occurred precisely after they entered the armory.
“Someone is investigating the alarm data,” Xiao Ran’s voice came through, “but the data has been processed and the traces have been erased.”
"Erase the traces?" Su Wanqing sneered. "It seems Li Guoqiang isn't completely unaware. He's already starting to be wary of us."
Just then, the communicator rang. It was Chen Ming, the monitor sent by Li Guoqiang.
"Captain Su, the leader wishes to meet with you to discuss the next steps in our cooperation plan."
Chen Ming's voice sounded very respectful, but Su Wanqing could sense a subtle probing in it.
"A cooperation proposal?" Su Wanqing's heart skipped a beat. "What is he planning to do?"
"The leader said that our cooperation is crucial, and only by working together can we overcome the apocalyptic crisis."
Chen Ming replied, "He hopes to gain a deeper understanding of our research progress in order to better allocate resources."
Su Wanqing knew that this was simply a test by Li Guoqiang.
He wanted to meet with them to understand their strength and intentions directly.
“Tell him that I agree to the meeting,” Su Wanqing said. “However, I hope that I can understand the specific proposals he put forward before the meeting.”
"Understood," Chen Ming replied. "I will inform the chief immediately."
After hanging up the communicator, Su Wanqing turned to Lin Che. "Night, what do you think Chen Ming's intentions are in coming here this time?"
"He was just a pawn; the one who truly controlled everything was Li Guoqiang."
The voice of the night echoed in her mind, "Li Guoqiang wants to test your bottom line through Chen Ming to see if you are willing to cooperate with him."
“I understand.” Su Wanqing nodded. “He wants to use us to consolidate his rule.”
“He needs you,” Night’s voice became more certain. “Your abilities are an integral part of his plan.”
"He must know that we've already discovered that secret base."
Lin Che suddenly spoke up, "He will take action to stop our investigation."
Su Wanqing looked at Lin Che, her eyes filled with worry. She knew the situation was more complicated than she had imagined.
"Lu Zhao, continue tracking the backup line, speed up the process. Xiao Ran, increase vigilance, and report any suspicious activity immediately."
Su Wanqing issued the order: "We must be fully prepared to meet the challenges ahead."
"Yes," Lu Zhao and Xiao Ran replied simultaneously.
Just as they were discussing, a middle-aged man in a neat suit, accompanied by two assistants also in suits, walked into the temporary operations room.
"Captain Su, I'm Wang Tai, sent by Li Guoqiang. I'm here to assist you with your testing."
Wang Tai, with a slight smile, extended his hand. "The leader is very satisfied with your work and hopes to establish a closer cooperative relationship with you." Su Wanqing shook Wang Tai's hand, her eyes filled with wariness.
"Mr. Wang, welcome. We would be happy to cooperate with you."
“That’s great,” Wang Tai said with a smile. “The leader hopes we can have a more in-depth discussion about the details of the test in order to better coordinate resources.”
“Of course.” Su Wanqing nodded and gestured for Wang Tai to sit down.
"However, before discussing the details, I would like to understand the specific plan proposed by the leader."
Wang Tai's smile froze slightly, seemingly surprised by Su Wanqing's question.
“The leader’s plan is simple,” Wang Tai replied. “He hopes we can cooperate with each other to fight the zombie crisis. He believes that only by uniting can we defeat the apocalypse.”
"Unity?" Su Wanqing sneered. "Mr. Wang, I know you came here not only to discuss cooperation plans, but also to monitor us."
Wang Tai's face turned pale instantly. He took a deep breath and tried to remain calm.
"Captain Su, you've misunderstood. We just wanted to help you."
"Help me?" Su Wanqing stood up, staring intently at Wang Tai.
"I don't need your help. I just need to know what Li Guoqiang's real purpose is."
Just when the atmosphere was at its most tense, Ye's voice suddenly rang in Lin Che's mind.
"Tell her to use Chen Ming, the leader of the counter-espionage operation."
Lin Che took a deep breath and said in a low voice, "Su Wanqing, I have a suggestion."
Su Wanqing turned to look at Lin Che, her eyes filled with doubt.
“We can pretend to cooperate with the leader, use Chen Ming, and lure him into revealing a weakness,” Lin Che said. “This way, we can obtain more intelligence and better formulate our action plan.”
Su Wanqing was silent for a moment before saying, "Ye, do you agree with this suggestion?"
"This is the most feasible solution at present." Night's voice was firm and cold.
Su Wanqing nodded. "Alright, let's follow Ye's suggestion and execute the counter-espionage plan."
“Mr. Wang,” Su Wanqing turned to look at Wang Tai, a playful smile on her lips.
"Since the leader trusts us so much, we will do our utmost to cooperate with you."
A look of relief appeared on Wang Tai's face. "That's great. Captain Su, I believe we can definitely overcome this apocalyptic crisis."
Su Wanqing didn't speak, but simply watched Wang Tai quietly. She knew that a cat-and-mouse game had only just begun.
“Lu Zhao,” Su Wanqing thought to herself, “begin a comprehensive recording in secret.”
In the distance, in a secluded corner, a figure was quietly observing everything.
He held a miniature communicator in his hand and reported everything that had happened here to Li Guoqiang.
"Chief, Su Wanqing seems to have taken the bait." The voice came from the communicator.
"She agreed to cooperate with us."
Li Guoqiang smiled smugly. "Very good. It seems my plan is progressing smoothly. Su Wanqing, you will soon become a pawn in my hands."
Meanwhile, in the makeshift operations room, Xiao Ran and Lu Zhao's expressions grew increasingly grave.
They knew that a crisis was quietly approaching.
"Su Wanqing, aren't we being too hasty?" Xiao Ran said in a low voice. "Isn't it too risky to confront Li Guoqiang directly?"
“Adventure?” Lin Che said calmly, “If we sit and wait for death, it will only be more dangerous. We must take the initiative to seize control.”
“However, we have too little intelligence right now,” Lu Zhao said. “We have no idea what Li Guoqiang’s true purpose is, or what resources he has.”
“Intelligence needs to be accumulated,” Lin Che said. “We can use this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Li Guoqiang’s plans before formulating an action plan.”
“I still don’t think it’s a good idea.” Xiao Ran shook his head. “We should be prepared to launch a surprise attack at any time to completely destroy those manufacturing facilities and avoid being dragged down by a prolonged stalemate.”
“Now is not the time,” Lin Che said. “We must ensure the safety of the team. If we act rashly, we may fall into Li Guoqiang’s trap.”
The three of them engaged in a heated debate about the direction of the new plan.
