Chapter 113 Sudden Siege of the Black Market

Xiao Ran stood in a simple warehouse deep in the black market, the air filled with the smell of cheap cigarettes and disinfectant.

Sitting opposite him was a short man whose face was hidden under a hood; the man introduced himself as "Old Kui".

Old Kui was a seasoned black market dealer who was said to have smuggled a lot of weapons and contraband, but Xiao Ran didn't care about that now; he just wanted to get the information about the virus samples as soon as possible.

"Are you sure the information you have is reliable?" Xiao Ran asked bluntly.

Old Kui slowly took a drag of his cigarette; his expression was obscured by the swirling smoke.

"Whether it's reliable or not depends on the price you're willing to pay. I'm the kind of person who only cares about money, not people."

"You've already seen the supplies I brought; they're enough to exchange for the intelligence you possess."

Xiao Ran pointed to several boxes of high-energy batteries and rare earth metals piled up in the warehouse outside. These were the base's reserve energy supplies, and Xiao Ran had specifically requested Su Wanqing to allocate them for this transaction.

Old Kui's eyes gleamed, as if he were assessing the value of the supplies.

"These things are good, but not enough. I need more."

"What do you want?" Xiao Ran frowned, disgusted by Lao Kui's greed.

Before Lao Kui could speak, a commotion suddenly came from outside the warehouse.

Several armed men in black uniforms, carrying automatic weapons, stormed into the black market, their target being the warehouse where Lao Kui was located.

"What's going on?" Xiao Ran was startled and quickly stood up, gripping his weapon tightly.

"Quick, hide!" Old Kui exclaimed, pulling Xiao Ran behind a pile of debris.

Gunfire erupted immediately, the deafening ringing in their ears. The militants unleashed fierce fire; several bullets struck the warehouse walls, kicking up clouds of dust.

"Who are they? Why are they attacking this place?" Xiao Ran asked in a low voice while looking for an opportunity to retaliate.

Old Kui, pale-faced, replied, "I don't know. They don't look like ordinary bandits; they're well-trained, and... their target seems to be some forces within the black market."

Xiao Ran didn't have time to ask further questions. He knew he had to deal with these armed men as soon as possible, otherwise they would expose their identities.

He dashed out of cover, dodging enemy bullets with his agility, while simultaneously drawing a pistol from his waist and firing accurately at his opponent.

Several militants fell to the ground, but more enemies soon arrived.

Xiao Ran was agile, moving through the warehouse, using the terrain for cover, and constantly firing at the enemy.

His combat skills were extremely proficient; every shot hit a vital point without wasting a single one.

However, the enemy was numerous and heavily armed, and Xiao Ran gradually felt overwhelmed.

Just then, he noticed that one of the fallen militants was undergoing a strange change in his body.

His skin began to darken and harden, his muscles swelled wildly, and his eyes filled with a blood-red light.

"Not good!" Xiao Ran was startled; he recognized the change.

This is a special kind of evolved zombie, which is more powerful and dangerous than ordinary zombies.

The evolved zombie roared and charged towards Xiao Ran with incredible speed and strength.

Xiao Ran dared not take the blow head-on and quickly retreated. The evolved zombie's claws tore through his arm, and blood gushed out.

"What...what is this?" Xiao Ran was incredulous. He hadn't expected to encounter an evolved zombie in this place.

At this critical moment, Old Kui suddenly stepped forward, a silver tubular device appearing in his hand. He fired several dazzling blue beams of light at the evolved zombie. "Boom!"

With a deafening roar, the evolved zombie's body was blasted to pieces, and a foul stench filled the air.

"What...what kind of weapon is this?" Xiao Ran looked at Lao Kui in shock. He hadn't expected that this short merchant would have such great power.

“These are my personal belongings, don’t be curious,” Old Kui said calmly. “However, I warn you, using this weapon will cause a huge commotion and may attract more enemies.”

Sure enough, as the explosion rang out, more militants rushed into the warehouse, their faces filled with anger and murderous intent.

"We're surrounded!" Xiao Ran said, his tone grave.

"There's no other way, we can only fight it out." Old Kui sighed. "Looks like we're all going to be in trouble this time."

Under Old Kui's command, he once again used explosive weapons to clear out the surrounding horde of zombies.

But this explosion was much more violent, causing the roof of the warehouse to collapse and severely damaging the black market's facilities.

In the chaos, Xiao Ran noticed that the evolved zombies seemed to be very sensitive to a certain smell in the air, and their actions became more frantic and hurried.

He took a closer sniff and found it to be a faint putrid smell, similar to the smell of residual gas from a virus sample.

"Could these evolved zombies be directly connected to the survivor leader?"

Xiao Ran secretly speculated. He recalled the intelligence he had intercepted in the laboratory earlier: the survivor leader seemed to have been conducting some kind of secret experiment, attempting to create even more powerful zombies.

"Xiao Ran, run! This place is going to collapse!" Old Kui shouted.

Xiao Ran nodded and rushed out of the collapsed warehouse with Lao Kui, escaping the black market's encirclement.

……

Meanwhile, in the base's temporary command center, Su Wanqing was studying the jade bracelet replenishment mechanism.

She used several laboratory mice to test and try to activate more previously unlocked attributes.

"The jade bracelet's reaction seems to be related to the urgency of the environment," Lu Zhao analyzed from the side. "The more dangerous the environment, the greater the replenishment effect of the jade bracelet."

Su Wanqing nodded; she had already verified this from the previous battles.

She suddenly had an idea and decided to try using the jade bracelet in different environments to see if she could absorb more unknown potential.

"Lu Zhao, could you set up a simulation environment, a high-risk combat scenario?" Su Wanqing asked.

“No problem.” Lu Zhao nodded and immediately began operating.

A few minutes later, a simulated battle scene appeared before them.

The scene was filled with zombies and various dangerous traps. Su Wanqing took a deep breath and activated the spatial function of the jade bracelet.

"Shh!"

A dazzling light shone from the jade bracelet, and several boxes of energy supplies were sucked into the space.

Su Wanqing was overjoyed. She discovered that the jade bracelet's replenishment mechanism was indeed as she had expected, capable of self-regulating according to the level of danger in the environment.

"It seems that the potential of the jade bracelet is far greater than we imagined."

"I can't believe it," Su Wanqing said, her eyes filled with anticipation. She believed that as long as she could fully grasp the secret of the jade bracelet, she would definitely find hope for survival.
