Chapter 110 The First Confrontation with the Survivors' Force
Su Wanqing stopped in mid-air, sensing a dangerous aura.

The new passage did not lead to more resources as Xiao Ran had said, but instead led directly to a completely enclosed space.

"Be careful," she whispered, her voice swallowed by the damp air echoing in the passageway.

At the end of the passage, a metal gate blocked their way.

The gate was tightly closed and covered with a rust-proof coating, indicating that it had not been opened for a long time.

Lu Zhao tried to connect the gate's control system with an instrument, but the system seemed to have been manually disconnected from the power supply.

"It needs to be turned on manually," Lu Zhao reported.

Just as he was about to take action, a commotion came from inside the gate.

Then, the gate slowly opened, revealing a narrow room.

Inside the room, five or six figures were holding guns, watching them warily.

The leader was a man who looked to be about forty years old. He was wearing a white coat that was covered in stains, and his hair was a little messy, but his eyes were unusually sharp.

His face showed exhaustion, but he remained on guard. Beside him stood a young woman, clutching a submachine gun tightly, her gaze as cold as a knife.

"Who are you people?" the man asked, his voice hoarse and clearly hostile.

"This is a private area. Leave immediately."

Su Wanqing raised her hand, signaling everyone to stop. "We're just passing through, looking for some medical supplies. We mean no harm."

The man sneered. "No ill intentions? In this apocalypse, who would believe in someone's goodwill? We have the supplies we need here. You'd better be sensible and leave immediately, or don't blame us for being impolite."

“We just want to seek cooperation.” Su Wanqing tried to soothe the other party’s emotions through negotiation.

"We can help each other and fight the zombies together."

"Cooperation?" The man shook his head. "We don't need anyone's help. We are capable of protecting ourselves." His gaze swept over Su Wanqing and the others, finally settling on the instrument in Lu Zhao's hand.

"You seem to have ill intentions; are you after our supplies?"

“Absolutely not,” Lu Zhao quickly explained. “We just wanted to find some medicine to treat the wounded.”

"Treat the wounded?" the man scoffed. "There's nothing here that you can use. All the medicines are formulated by ourselves, specifically for dealing with the mutated virus."

Xiao Ran was impatient with the current situation. He took a step forward, preparing to directly access the medical supplies, but one of the man's soldiers pointed a gun at his head.

"Halt! Take another step forward and we'll open fire!" The soldier's voice was cold and ruthless.

The situation became extremely tense, with both sides on the verge of conflict. Su Wanqing realized that resolving the issue peacefully would likely not be easy.

"What are you researching here?" Su Wanqing tried to change the subject and find more useful information.

"These medical devices look very advanced. Are you a professional medical team?"

The man narrowed his eyes, seemingly puzzled by Su Wanqing's question.

Why are you so concerned about these things?

“I’m just curious,” Su Wanqing replied calmly. “We’ve been searching for ways to combat the virus. If you have any special formulas, perhaps we can learn from each other.”

The man remained silent for a moment, his gaze sweeping over Su Wanqing's face as if assessing her authenticity.

“The formula we have is extremely dangerous and not everyone can use it. Moreover, we don’t trust anyone.”

At this moment, Su Wanqing subconsciously used her ancestral jade bracelet to transfer several small bottles of disinfectant and painkillers into her backpack.

The movement was so fast that almost no one noticed.

The man noticed Su Wanqing's unusual behavior, and his eyes became even more wary.

"what have you done?"

Su Wanqing feigned composure. "I didn't do anything, I just tidied my backpack."

"What are you wearing on your wrist?" The man noticed the jade bracelet on Su Wanqing's wrist, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes.

"What it is?"

Su Wanqing smiled slightly, trying to gloss over the matter with a vague approach.

"It's just an ordinary jade bracelet, passed down from my grandmother."

The man clearly didn't believe Su Wanqing's explanation. He took a few steps forward, wanting to examine the jade bracelet more closely.

"Don't come any closer!" Xiao Ran stood in front of Su Wanqing, his eyes filled with warning.

"We don't want conflict, you'd better not push us."

"Conflict?" The man sneered. "You came here first. I'm warning you, get out of here immediately, or I won't be polite!"

At this moment, Lin Che suddenly whispered to Su Wanqing, "Host, the enemy leader is being overly protective of certain samples, seemingly concealing important information. I suggest taking strong measures to seize them directly." Ye's voice echoed in Su Wanqing's mind, carrying a hint of coldness and killing intent.

Su Wanqing shook her head, rejecting Ye's suggestion. "It's not the right time yet. We need to gather more information before we can make the right judgment."

She softened her tone as she spoke to the man. "We don't intend to be your enemy; we simply hope to seek cooperation. If you're willing to share some information with us, perhaps we can find a better way to survive."

"Survival methods?" The man sneered. "In this apocalypse, only the strong can survive. Your weakness means you are destined to be eliminated."

“The strong are not always right,” Su Wanqing retorted. “Sometimes, cooperation can create greater value.”

The man ignored Su Wanqing's words; he simply stared at them coldly, his eyes filled with distrust.

“You can leave now,” the man said. “Don’t bother us anymore.”

Su Wanqing knew that continuing the negotiations was probably pointless.

She nodded to Lu Zhao and Xiao Ran, signaling them to prepare for battle.

"Alright, since you don't believe us, we won't force you."

Su Wanqing said, "But if you need help, you can come to us anytime."

After speaking, Su Wanqing turned and led the group to leave. The man and his men kept a close watch on them, ready to take action at any moment.

Su Wanqing thought to herself: This survivor group is definitely not benevolent. They must be hiding some secret, and this secret may be related to those tightly protected virus samples.

Su Wanqing slowly turned around, her back to the tense group of survivors, her face calm and composed.

She tried to keep her breathing steady and avoid sounding too rapid.

Behind them, Lu Zhao and Xiao Ran remained on guard, their hands unconsciously resting on their weapons.

Lin Che lowered his head, his body trembling slightly, as if he was enduring some kind of great pain.

“We’re just passing through,” Su Wanqing said, her tone as gentle as possible.

"This city has been abandoned for a long time. We just want to find some supplies and rest for a while. We don't have any particular purpose." She tried to appear weak in the hope of gaining the other party's trust.

Across from her, the man in the white coat, named Zhou Wenbo, scrutinized Su Wanqing with a gaze as sharp as a knife. "Passing by? After the apocalypse, few people appear here without a reason. This isn't a tourist attraction, nor a free supply station." Zhou Wenbo's voice was still hoarse, tinged with distrust.

"We were commissioned by a small nearby settlement to find some medical supplies."

Su Wanqing continued, trying to fabricate a plausible reason.

"They suffered some casualties and urgently need some medicine."

Zhou Wenbo sneered. "A small settlement? What's the name of that settlement you're talking about? Where is it?"

Su Wanqing's heart tightened. She hadn't prepared this excuse beforehand, so she could only bite the bullet and say, "That... settlement is called Anning Village, and it's about fifty kilometers away from here."

Zhou Wenbo's gaze sharpened further. "Anning Village? I've never heard of that name before?"

He turned to a young soldier beside him and said, "Li Wei, go check the latest intelligence and see if there are any records about Anning Village."

Su Wanqing felt that she had fallen into an even more dangerous situation.

Her lies are easily exposed, and once they are revealed, the consequences will be dire.

At that moment, a faint voice sounded in her mind: "Host, the other party is very concerned about the samples they have, and they have become suspicious of your lies. The other party may have mastered the complete research plan for the evolution virus. This is a rare opportunity, and we must find a way to obtain it."

That was the sound of the night, carrying a cold calculation and an intense desire for control.

Su Wanqing frowned; she didn't like Ye's forceful style.

But it must be admitted that the information provided by the night was indeed very important.

If the other side truly possesses the research plan for the evolutionary virus, then they will have hope of combating the apocalyptic crisis.

"I understand," Su Wanqing said to herself.

“Mr. Zhou,” Lu Zhao suddenly spoke, interrupting Zhou Wenbo’s thoughts.

"I am a physicist and I am very interested in these medical devices. Could you please allow me to take a closer look?"

Zhou Wenbo turned his gaze to Lu Zhao. "You're a scientist? Why?"

"I want to see the technical principles behind these devices, which may be helpful for our research and development to combat the virus."

Lu Zhao said calmly, "I guarantee that I will not cause any damage to your equipment."

Zhou Wenbo hesitated for a moment, then finally nodded. "Okay. But you must observe under my supervision. And you can only look, not touch."

Lu Zhao nodded, walked to the medical equipment next to him, and began to examine it carefully.

He soon discovered that the circuit boards of these devices were engraved with special encryption symbols, seemingly to prevent them from being cracked by others.

“These devices were once under the strict control of a very high-level scientific research organization,” Lu Zhao thought to himself.

Meanwhile, Xiao Ran was trying to de-escalate the tense situation. He walked up to a soldier who was wiping his gun and asked, "What type of supplies are these? They look very professional."

The soldier looked up and stared coldly at Xiao Ran. "This is medicine we formulated ourselves, used to treat the mutated virus. It has nothing to do with you."

"Can I take a look?" Xiao Ran asked. "Perhaps I can help check if it's easy to carry."

He just wanted an excuse to get up close to those evolved virus samples.

"No!" the soldier shouted sternly. "These things are extremely valuable and no one is allowed to touch them."

Seeing this, Xiao Ran didn't press the matter further and instead asked, "Where was this place before? It looks like an abandoned medical research facility."

“This used to be a biological research center,” the soldier replied.

"Specializing in the research of some new drugs and viruses."

"Researching viruses?" Xiao Ran asked. "What type of virus are you researching?"

“I don’t know,” the soldier replied. “I was only responsible for guard duty; I know nothing else.”

"It seems there are many secrets hidden here," Xiao Ran thought to himself.

Just then, Zhou Wenbo suddenly spoke up. "Where did you come from? What are your identities? Why are you here?"

Su Wanqing's heart skipped a beat. Zhou Wenbo seemed to have noticed the flaw in their identities and was trying to obtain information from the sidelines.

“We…” Su Wanqing was about to speak when Zhou Wenbo interrupted her.

"Stop talking. Your answers are full of holes. I'm increasingly convinced that you're here for ulterior motives."

He narrowed his eyes, staring at Su Wanqing. "Who exactly are you? Why are you deceiving us?"

Just as Zhou Wenbo finished speaking, Li Wei's voice came from the side.

"Director Zhou, I've checked. There's no settlement called Anning Village nearby, and there are no recent records about them."

Zhou Wenbo's face grew even more grim. "It was a lie after all!"

He turned to look at Su Wanqing, his eyes filled with anger. "What exactly do you want?"

Su Wanqing took a deep breath, knowing that she could no longer hide it.

She said slowly, "We...we are an expedition team from another region, commissioned to find some drugs that can fight the virus."

"An expedition team?" Zhou Wenbo sneered. "Your expedition team is far too well-equipped, isn't it? Also, your identities are highly suspicious to me." He paused, then said, "So, I'll ask you one more time: who are you? Why are you deceiving us?"

Su Wanqing knew that she had to find a reasonable excuse to resolve this crisis.

She composed herself and said, "Our identities might surprise you. We...we are..."

Just as Su Wanqing was about to speak, Lin Che suddenly covered his head and groaned in pain.

His body began to tremble, and his face turned pale.

"Host, Night... Night can't control himself! He wants to take over your body!"

Lin Che's voice was weak and hoarse.

Su Wanqing's face turned extremely pale. She knew that Ye's power was immense, and if he were to gain control of her body, the consequences would be unimaginable.

"No... I can't let the night control me!" Su Wanqing struggled desperately in her heart.

Zhou Wenbo noticed Lin Che's unusual behavior, and a hint of doubt flashed in his eyes.

"Are you alright?" Zhou Wenbo asked. "You don't look well."

Lin Che did not answer; he simply closed his eyes in anguish.

Su Wanqing knew that she had to end this negotiation as soon as possible, otherwise Ye might expose her identity.

“Mr. Zhou,” Su Wanqing said. “We know you are full of suspicion towards us. But we really have no ill intentions. We just want to seek cooperation to fight against the apocalyptic crisis together.”

Zhou Wenbo was silent for a moment, then finally nodded. "Alright. I can trust you this once. But if you dare to deceive me, I won't be lenient with you."

Su Wanqing breathed a sigh of relief.
