Chapter 3 Confused Memory

Su Yuntao frowned slightly, a hint of subtle surprise flashing across his eyes, as if he was surprised by Huo Yuhao's reaction, but he still patiently explained:

"This is Notting City in the Tiandou Empire. You seemed unconscious just now. As for who you are, I don't know. When I found you, you were already unconscious."

After hearing this, Huo Yuhao's eyes became even more confused. He subconsciously touched his head, trying to dig out a trace of memory from his mind, but there was nothing but pain.

At this moment, the word "Huo" suddenly emerged from the bottom of his heart without any warning. His eyes widened instantly, his lips parted slightly, and he murmured, "I... I think my last name is Huo."

Su Yuntao looked at Huo Yuhao and thought to himself that this child must have been injured and lost his memory. He was still young, and if he was brought back to the Spirit Hall, he might be able to be trained into a useful talent. With this in mind, he said:
"Little friend, you must have lost your memory. Why don't you follow me back to the Wuhun Temple in Notting City? There you will be properly taken care of and maybe even be able to regain your memory."

Hearing this, Huo Yuhao felt a little uneasy. However, at this moment, he really didn't know what to do. Having a place to stay was undoubtedly a good choice for him. So, he nodded gently and happily agreed, "Okay, then I'll trouble you, Uncle."

The two of them then set off and headed towards Notting City.

Along the way, Su Yuntao took the initiative to chat with Huo Yuhao in order to ease his nervousness: "Xiao Huo, do you know what I do in the Spirit Hall?"

Huo Yuhao shook his head, his eyes full of curiosity.

Su Yuntao enthusiastically introduced, "My job is to awaken the spirits of the children in the nearby villages for free. In Douluo Continent, the spirit is of vital importance; it can determine a person's future. Some children awaken powerful spirits and become powerful spirit masters, admired by others. However, some children have mediocre spirits and may only be able to live ordinary lives."

"Free? And... or do you have to come to my house to awaken it?" Huo Yuhao was instantly surprised when he heard this, and his steps unconsciously stopped. He stared at Su Yuntao with wide eyes in disbelief, and stammered, "But... deep in my memory, it seems that awakening a martial spirit requires a fee, and you have to go to the main city. It's very difficult for ordinary children from ordinary families to awaken their martial spirits."

Su Yuntao was slightly startled, then smiled and said, "It seems your memory is really a little confused. Now that the Spirit Hall is committed to serving spirit masters across the continent, it will naturally spread the spirit awakening service to every corner, allowing more children the opportunity to embark on the path of spirit master."

Huo Yuhao nodded slowly, but his heart was full of doubts.

There seemed to be a huge difference between his memory and the reality described by Su Yuntao, which made him more eager to regain his memory and find out the reason behind all this.

As the two chatted, they drew closer to Notting City. Although it wasn't a large city, its proximity to the Heaven Dou Empire border meant its walls were quite thick. Because Su Yuntao wore the Spirit Hall insignia, he and Huo Yuhao didn't have to undergo the same inspections as the others, instead entering the city directly.

As soon as you enter the city, you are hit by a bustling scene. There are shops on both sides of the street, people coming and going, and the sounds of hawking and chatting are intertwined.

Su Yuntao turned to look at Huo Yuhao and asked with concern, "Little boy, are you hungry? If you are, I'll take you to eat something first."

"Hmm, I feel a bit hungry," Huo Yuhao said softly, rubbing his stomach and nodding slightly. Su Yuntao smiled and patted Huo Yuhao's shoulder, saying, "Okay, there's a good fried rice stall up ahead. I go there often. I'll take you to try it."

As he spoke, he brought Huo Yuhao to a roadside stall. The stall owner was a middle-aged uncle who greeted them warmly. Su Yuntao skillfully ordered two servings of fried rice, and soon, the steaming hot fried rice was served.

Looking at the fragrant fried rice in front of him, Huo Yuhao's appetite suddenly increased. He picked up the spoon and started to eat it voraciously. After a while, he had eaten up all the fried rice in the bowl.

Seeing Huo Yuhao's satisfied look, Su Yuntao smiled. He pulled out a few copper soul coins from his pocket, handed them to the stall owner, paid, and then looked at Huo Yuhao and explained, "Xiao Huo, don't worry about the money. I can treat you to a meal thanks to the subsidy from the Spirit Hall. The Spirit Hall is quite considerate of us grassroots spirit masters. Although the amount isn't much, it's enough for daily expenses."

"After a soul master obtains their first soul ring, they can receive a subsidy of one gold soul coin from the Spirit Hall every month. A great soul master will receive 10 gold soul coins, and a soul master will receive 100 gold soul coins. After reaching the level of soul lord, the subsidy will stop."

Upon hearing this, Huo Yuhao's entire body trembled violently, the look of surprise on his face instantly intensifying. His eyes widened like bells, and he froze in place. A familiar yet unfamiliar scene involuntarily surfaced in his mind: he toiled daily selling grilled fish to make a living, enduring hardships and living in extreme poverty. And now, in this world, there was actually a force that would give gold soul coins to spirit masters?
“Give…give gold soul coins to soul masters? This…this is too unbelievable. As far as I can remember, there were no subsidies or gold soul coins at all. I…I still have to rely on selling grilled fish to barely make a living.” After a long while, Huo Yuhao stammered, his voice trembling slightly.

"I vaguely remember that I knew a soul master friend named Jiang Nannan. In order to raise money for her mother's medical treatment, she was forced to sell her body..."

Upon hearing this, Su Yuntao couldn't help but feel a ripple in his heart. He thought silently in his heart that this child must have been injured too badly, resulting in amnesia and memory disorder. After all, in the Douluo Continent he knew, the situation that Huo Yuhao described had never occurred.

Thinking of this, Su Yuntao smiled gently. He placed his hands gently on Huo Yuhao's shoulders and said seriously, "Xiao Huo, I know you're confused right now. Those strange things in your memory have left you at a loss. But don't be afraid, and don't let your imagination run wild. You lost your memory because you were injured, so it's normal to have some confusion. Once you recover well in the Spirit Hall, perhaps your memory will return to normal after a while."

"Yeah." Upon hearing this, Huo Yuhao nodded.

Su Yuntao paused, looked at Huo Yuhao, and continued, "Don't worry, the Spirit Hall is a very good place. Everything here is real. Spirit awakening is free, and subsidies and gold soul coins are distributed. These are all part of the Spirit Hall's genuine care for spirit masters. From now on, you can treat the Spirit Hall as your home, and I will take care of you."

"Well, uncle, thank you." Huo Yuhao felt a warm feeling in his heart as he listened to Su Yuntao's comfort. His originally panicked heart gradually calmed down. He took a deep breath and nodded vigorously.

After saying that, he followed Su Yuntao and continued walking towards the Spirit Hall.

"By the way, Xiao Huo, I think you are about six years old. I wonder if you have awakened your martial spirit?" As they walked, Su Yuntao seemed to suddenly remember something. He slowed down his pace, turned his head, looked at Huo Yuhao with curiosity on his face, and asked.
