Chapter 711 No Alibi

Interrogation Room Number One.

A beam of incandescent light shone directly on Guo Hongrui, making his already pale and bluish face appear even more ashen.

"Do you know why I called you here?" Cheng Xu asked.

Guo Hongrui shook his head. "I don't know."

Cheng Xu: "What is your relationship with Yang Limei?"

Jiang Yuan and Xu Shiling watched this scene with indifferent expressions through the glass.

Guo Hongrui's eyes darted around before he replied, "Didn't I already say? We're colleagues."

"A colleague relationship?" Cheng Xu twirled his pen. "But why do your colleagues say you're in a romantic relationship?"

"What?" Guo Hongrui was dumbfounded. He hadn't expected that the police had already questioned their colleagues.

"I'll ask you one more time, what is your relationship with Yang Limei?"

“We…” Guo Hongrui stammered, “We dated for a while before, but we broke up. Now we’re colleagues.”

Li Jiaman said coldly, "Do you know whose house the murder in your building happened in?"

Guo Hongrui hesitated for a few seconds before saying, "Let's go to Yang Limei's house."

Cheng Xu: Where were you when the incident occurred?

Guo Hongrui's heart skipped a beat; he hadn't thought about how to answer the question beforehand.

He tightened his lips, his nails digging into his fingers, glanced at the person opposite him, then lowered his eyes again. "I...I...I went home to sleep after showing the house to the client."

Li Jiaman nodded: "That means you don't have an alibi for the time of the incident."

"Officer, I was sleeping!" Guo Hongrui said excitedly. "When you sleep, you're sleeping alone, how could there be anyone else here?"

Cheng Xu picked up the tablet, opened a video, and asked, "Is that you, the person dragging the red suitcase?"

When Guo Hongrui saw himself in the video, a flicker of panic crossed his eyes, and his hands unconsciously clasped together. "Is...is that right..."

"Yes or no," Cheng Xu said coldly. "Please answer accurately."

Guo Hongrui's eyes twitched a few times, then he reached out and rubbed his nose. "It's...it's me."

"What's in this box?" Li Jiaman tapped the table with the tip of her pen.

Guo Hongrui's eyes darted around as he said, "It's just some unwanted stuff."

"You're still packing unwanted things in your suitcase?"

"Put it in your suitcase, take it out, and then throw it away."

"Row."

Cheng Xu and Li Jiaman stood up, ready to leave.

Seeing this, Guo Hongrui hurriedly asked, "Officer, are you done asking your questions? Can I go back now?"

"Not yet." Li Jiaman glanced at him, her disgust almost impossible to conceal. "You have to stay here."

Guo Hongrui frowned, his face full of anxiety and unease. "When can I leave?"

Li Jiaman and Cheng Xu ignored him and walked out of the interrogation room without looking back.

Guo Hongrui broke down and shouted, "What right do you have to lock me up?"

Jiang Yuan and Xu Shiling walked out through another door.

Cheng Xu closed the interrogation room door and said calmly, "Let him hang out for the night."

Li Jiaman agreed, "He's probably having a tough time tonight."

"Yes." Jiang Yuan nodded slightly.

"What are your plans for the future?" Xu Shiling asked.

Li Jiaman replied, "Go and talk to Yang Lidan."

Jiang Yuan: "Okay, then let's continue listening in."

Soon, Yang Lidan was taken to interrogation room number two.

She sat there in handcuffs, her face haggard and pale, dark circles under her eyes, and exhaustion evident in her expression. She looked at Cheng Xu and Li Jiaman, her eyes brimming with tears, and said emotionally, "Officer, I really didn't mean it, he forced me to..."

"Yang Lidan," Cheng Xu called out, "For the questions I'm about to ask you, you only need to answer yes or no."

Yang Lidan sniffed and choked out, "Okay, I understand."

Li Jiaman asked calmly, "You know someone named Guo Hongrui, don't you?"

Yang Lidan's eyelashes trembled as she stared at the other person in astonishment.

Cheng Xu reminded him in a deep voice, "Answer the question."

Yang Lidan pursed her lips before saying, "Yes."

Li Jiaman: "Is Guo Hongrui your sister Yang Limei's boyfriend?"

Yang Lidan lowered her eyes. "Yes."

"Guo Hongrui lives upstairs from you."

"Yes."

"Your sister is pregnant with Guo Hongrui's child."

"Yes."

"Guo Hongrui was also at the scene when the incident occurred."

"..." Yang Lidan opened her mouth, then clenched her fists. "No."

Li Jiaman narrowed her eyes slightly, "Before the incident, Guo Hongrui came to your house looking for you."

"No."

"Guo Hongrui flirted with you."

Yang Lidan looked up at her, then quickly looked away, "No..."

Cheng Xu frowned and warned, "Yang Lidan, you'd better think carefully before you answer."

Yang Lidan took a deep breath. "Officer, I'm telling the truth."

Li Jiaman: "Yang Lidan, please tell me the story of the incident again."

"Didn't I already tell you?" Yang Lidan asked, her eyes red and her voice breaking. "Why do you have to force me to think about such painful memories..."

Cheng Xu tapped the table, his tone serious: "I want you to tell me the true story of what happened!"

“Everything I said is true,” Yang Lidan said, crying. “That deliveryman took advantage of me. I kindly delivered the food to him and let him eat at my house, but he got lustful and tried to rape me…”

She screamed in anguish, "I was driven to the brink... If he hadn't died that day, if he had succeeded, I would be the one who died..."

Cheng Xu and Li Jiaman remained silent, calmly waiting for her to finish crying.

Yang Lidan's crying gradually subsided.

Li Jiaman chuckled lightly: "Your acting is quite good."

Yang Lidan's back stiffened slightly. She looked at her with teary eyes, her tone more questioning than anything else, "Officer, what do you mean by this? You're a woman too, how can you say such things to me? Is it my fault that I was raped?"

Cheng Xu asked, "Are you and Li Huanzhou really just a deliveryman and customer?"

"Otherwise what?" Yang Lidan retorted. "What other relationship could I possibly have with him besides this?"

“We checked Li Huanzhou’s bank statements,” Li Jiaman said. “He spends at least 20,000 yuan a month on your live stream.”

Yang Lidan unconsciously pursed her lips, her eyes flickering slightly: "Really? I didn't know about this. He never told me anything."

“Okay.” Li Jiaman nodded and changed the subject, “Guo Hongrui is in the interrogation room next door right now.”

Yang Lidan clenched her fingers and remained silent.

Cheng Xu leaned closer and asked her, "Guo Hongrui was at the scene when the incident happened, right?"

"No." Yang Lidan shook her head urgently.

Li Jiaman laughed angrily, "Is it really worth it to risk the rest of your life for half a house?"

"I don't know what you're talking about." A hint of unease appeared in Yang Lidan's eyes.
