Chapter 301 Robbery
Are you still going to the forum this afternoon?

"I'm not going. I'm going to wander around the neighborhood."

Lu Youyou packed up the packaging bags and threw them into the roadside trash can.

The forum concludes today with a small exchange session; attendance is optional.

My mind has been so busy these past few days, it's time to take a break. She still has over 200,000 yuan in her account, why not just browse around and maybe find a bargain?

“I’ll go with you. New York isn’t safe; it’s not safe for you to go out alone,” Lawrence said.

Since the teacher entrusted the person to him, he had to ensure the personal safety of his junior sister.

Lu Youyou didn't refuse; having more locals as tour guides was a good idea.

"Have you decided where to go? The Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge?" Lawrence casually rattled off a few New York landmarks.

Lu Youyou smiled and shook her head: "Are there any art and craft shops around here? I'd like to look at porcelain and sculptures."

Lawrence was a little surprised, but he didn't ask any questions. He quickly turned the steering wheel and drove towards a store he knew.

"Is it because China has a long history that Chinese people like these things?"

Lu Youyou smiled: "Maybe, anyway, I like pretty things."

She loves all the priceless national treasures, and if possible, she would like to bring all the Chinese cultural relics in the world back to China.

She was willing to spend money on the previous bronze animal heads only to avoid trouble. If she didn't have to take responsibility, she could go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York right now and collect all the lost national treasures into her villa without taking much time.

Lawrence couldn't help but laugh out loud: "That's true, I also like good-looking things."

New York in the 80s is not much different from what it is decades later. If it weren't for the "antique cars" on the road, you would hardly feel the long passage of time in between.

Lu Youyou thought Lawrence would take her to an antique shop in Chinatown, but the car stopped at an inconspicuous shop on the side of the street.

It's not that the signboard is unremarkable; once you push the door open, you'll find that the space inside is quite large.

"This shop has a lot of Asian-style artworks, some modern and some antiques. I don't know much about them. What do you think?"

Of course, Lu Youyou was immediately enveloped in a rich historical atmosphere as soon as she entered the door.

Although it's described as having an Asian style, most of the items actually originated in China, including porcelain, sculptures, and calligraphy and paintings hanging on the walls.

The shop was quiet. The owner only asked one question, and Lu Youyou said she wanted to take a look herself and didn't come over to bother her.

Lu Youyou doesn't understand the appreciation of cultural relics, especially when the room is full of "good things", it is really difficult for her to pick out the real national treasures.

She could only use the most basic method of judgment to filter, picking out those she had seen and remembered first.

The subtle scent of sandalwood, combined with the antique-looking objects throughout the room, makes you feel as if the whole world has quieted down.

At times like these, the piercing sound becomes even more pronounced.

creak-

A sudden screech of brakes came from outside the door. It was so loud even through a wall, which showed how abruptly the car had stopped.

Pedestrians on the street were drawn to the old Ford that was driving recklessly.

Lu Youyou looked out through the glass, and the overly sharp gaze immediately alerted her to something was wrong.

The car windows were blacked out, so you couldn't see inside, but through the windshield you could see two people in the front seat with black cloths over their heads, and what they were holding in front of them was...

Although only the top section was missing, Lu Youyou had dealt with the military so many times that she could easily recognize the shape of the gun barrel!
She immediately tensed up. Lawrence said New York was unsafe, but was it really this bad?!
Lu Youyou glanced at the door. She didn't even know where the lock was on this old-fashioned door, and even for safety reasons, she couldn't go there herself.

"There's someone with a gun in the van! Lock the doors and hide!"

She didn't dare to shout, so much so that the shop owner sitting in the corner didn't hear what she said.

It was too late; the men in black had already gotten out of the car. Regardless of what they did, they had to find a place to hide immediately. The display cabinet next door offered no cover. Lu Youyou quickly scanned the area; only the shopkeeper's side had a cabinet where she could hide.

She lifted her leg to run over there, but found Lawrence seemed stunned, his face pale and his breathing rapid.

Before she could say anything more, Lu Youyou grabbed him and ran inside together.

The commotion outside didn't startle the boss. In busy areas, there are always jerks slamming on their brakes every day. But it was the sudden rush of two grown men that startled him.

"What are you doing?" The boss stood up nervously.

"Someone has a gun, lock it up immediately..."

boom--

A loud bang confirmed Lu Youyou's words; the boss finally connected the "carrying a gun" with what had happened outside.

He crouched down, trembling, and then took a wooden gun out of the cabinet, still trembling, before freezing there, unable to move.

"Lock the door now!" Lu Youyou wanted to drag the boss up.

The man seemed to have just realized what was happening. He tried to stand up but couldn't, so he could only crawl towards the door, his legs trembling.

Lu Youyou quickly recalled the surrounding buildings. The building next door seemed to be a Wells Fargo bank, so... this was an armed robbery?
Lawrence's face was still deathly pale, and now he was clutching his chest, his expression pained.

"What's wrong? Does your heart hurt or is something else bothering you?"

Lu Youyou had already listed seven or eight acute illnesses in her mind.

"I...I...medicine..." Lawrence gasped for breath.

"What medicine? Where is it?"

"In the car, on the car..."

Lu Youyou's nerves were on edge even more; going out at a time like this would be suicide.

Lawrence knew he couldn't get out, so he leaned against the wall and weakly pointed to the phone.

Lu Youyou immediately moved the landline closer and handed him the receiver: "What's the number?"

"212...53..."

Lu Youyou dialed the number he gave her, but Lawrence's hands were shaking so badly he couldn't hold it, so Lu Youyou had to hold it for him.

"Hello...it's me...X Street X Store...robbery...disease..."

After saying just those few words, Lawrence ran out of energy. His chest heaved violently, but he couldn't breathe, as if his airway was blocked.

Just then, two loud bangs rang out outside. Through the glass window, a man with a gun in his back lay on the side of the street.

Sharp screams and the robbers' shouts rang out one after another. Lawrence seemed to finally be unable to bear the shock, and he closed his eyes and fainted.

The boss finally locked the door and climbed back. When he saw a person lying on the ground, he was so shocked that he almost screamed.

"Shut up!" Lu Youyou hissed.

Lawrence likely suffered an acute heart attack. With no medication or emergency equipment available, he could only hope that the people he called for help would arrive quickly enough.

That was definitely not a call to the police. To think that the first thing they did in this situation wasn't to call the police... Lawrence...

not good!

My heart stopped beating!

Lu Youyou could no longer care about anything else and immediately began CPR.
