Chapter 6 Chili Pepper
As they were walking, Sheng Wanqiu saw what seemed to be red juice in the grass, so she walked closer to take a look out of curiosity. Aren't ginseng fruits said to be red?

What if it's ginseng? If I sell it for money, wouldn't I have money?

As a result, I walked over with great joy, but saw that there was no ginseng at all, but chili peppers, small, red chili peppers.

Forget it, you need to put chili in the roasted rabbit too, so I reached out to grab some.

"Sister, this is poisonous and can't be eaten!" Sheng Huaian quickly knocked her hand away and reminded her anxiously.

"Poisonous? Are you kidding?" Sheng Wanqiu was stunned. Isn't this just a chili pepper? She would recognize it even if it turned into ashes!
"Sister, it's true. The big dog in our village tasted this and his mouth became swollen. His hands were also burning with pain, and it took a long time to go away."

"This one is red now, and there's also green one, both are poisonous, so be careful!"

Sheng Wanqiu: "This is chili pepper, how could it be poisonous? You're just a kid, don't make such alarmist remarks if you don't know!"

"Help me pick them quickly, and I'll make you something delicious to eat when I get home tonight!"

Sheng Huaian covered his head which had just been hit by his sister and could only help pick the peppers obediently. They didn't stop until all the peppers in the whole area were plucked out.

On the way back, Sheng Wanqiu dug some wild onions and saw some mint by the stream. She picked some and put them in her backpack.

The two of them slowly returned to the main road of the village, and saw a few aunts sitting and chatting under a big tree. As they talked, they kept glancing at the brother and sister.

Sheng Wanqiu knew with her toes that these people were gossiping about her family.

"Oh! Wanqiu girl, you guys are up the mountain! What good stuff did you find? Show it to your auntie."

A thin woman with a sallow complexion who looked malnourished came over. Although she had a smile on her face, the smile did not reach her eyes. She reached out to take the backpack on Sheng Wanqiu's back.

"What are you looking at? What's so good about it!" Sheng Wanqiu turned around and dodged the hand that the aunt extended to her.

"You girl, I'm just taking a look. How can I save a piece of meat by taking a look?" The woman was a little unhappy and her face looked very unpleasant.

According to the original owner's memory, Sheng Wanqiu recognized that the woman's surname was Yuan, and she especially liked to take advantage of others.

"Aunt Yuan, I caught a rabbit today. If you take it away like this, who will own it if it runs away? Can you compensate me with one?"

"If you have nothing to do, go home early to cook, so that your master won't be unable to have a hot meal when he gets home and will beat you up again!"

"Huaian, let's go home!" Sheng Wanqiu rolled her eyes at her and turned away.

Aunt Yuan was so angry that she jumped up and down. After she saw the two of them walk away, she muttered, "You deserve it that your mother doesn't want you! Humph!"

Then she thought of her master's fist, so she hurried back with the basket.

The women under the big tree heard their conversation and they all covered their mouths and laughed.

"If we talk about the most powerful girl in our village, it's still Wanqiu from the Sheng family. I've never seen her suffer any loss." A fat aunt said with a smile.

"Yes! She has inherited her grandmother's true skills. I wonder which boy would be so unlucky to marry her!" said a thin aunt, glancing at the woman embroidering on the side.

The aunt who was embroidering with her head down didn't look up at all. She was just embroidering silently, but her eyes were already rolling around.

She hastily put down her embroidery, picked up the bamboo basket, smiled at the aunts around her, and hurried home. "It looks like the Bai family will have rabbit meat to eat tonight," said the thin aunt who had just asked the question disdainfully.

"You are a person who just likes to watch the fun. Who made you not have a good son?"

The aunts under the tree started chatting with each other, and the focus of the topic was of course the person who had just left in a hurry.

"Grandma, we're back!"

Before reaching the gate of the small courtyard, Sheng Wanqiu started shouting towards the yard.

"Just come back! Why are you shouting so loudly!" Mrs. Sheng walked out of the yard with an impatient look on her face, followed by her little tail Sheng Huaimu.

"Grandma, let's go inside and talk. Hehe, I caught a rabbit. We'll have meat for dinner tonight." Sheng Wanqiu immediately put her arm around Grandma Sheng and whispered in her ear.

"You stupid girl, what did I say? Didn't I tell you not to go up the mountain? You ignored my words, didn't you?"

"Grandma, grandma, it hurts, please say it nicely if you have something to say!" Sheng Wanqiu screamed in pain. She couldn't remember how long it had been since someone had pulled her ears.

Mrs. Sheng grabbed Sheng Wanqiu's ear and dragged her into the yard. This damn girl was so disobedient and so brave!

How could a little girl like her dare to climb this mountain?

If it was taken away by a wolf, how would she explain it to her second son?
It was not until they reached the yard that Mrs. Sheng let go of her hand. Sheng Wanqiu covered her ear, which was hurt by the pulling, with a look of despair on her face.

"Oh my goodness! Have you dug up the rabbit's nest?"

Mrs. Sheng looked at the basket in surprise. Two large rabbits and five small rabbits were lying neatly in the basket.

"I'll take it to town tomorrow and sell it to earn money to save for your dowry." After saying this, Mrs. Sheng was about to put the rabbit away.

"Grandma, I caught this with great difficulty. I want to eat the meat."

"Don't even think about exchanging my rabbit for money. You can't even save enough for a dowry! I'm just a child!" Sheng Wanqiu snatched the backpack and held it in her hand.

Seeing Sheng Wanqiu's fearful look, Mrs. Sheng curled her lips and said, "Forget it, since she caught it, let her eat it!"
The family hadn't eaten meat for a long time. Not only the children, but she herself was craving it.

"Okay, okay, eat it, eat it! It's like I'm not giving you meat to eat. Go boil some water so I can peel the skin!"

"Okay! Grandma, I'll go boil some water right away!" When Sheng Huaian heard his grandma agreed, he quickly trotted into the kitchen.

Only then did Sheng Wanqiu put down the backpack with peace of mind and helped Mrs. Sheng pack up the rabbits.

All seven rabbits were skinned out. Mrs. Sheng was still puzzled. How could the rabbits die without any wounds on their bodies?

Sheng Wanqiu said that he died after being drugged and having his neck broken, which dispelled his suspicions.

Because Sheng Wanqiu used to like to pester a hunter in the village. In order to eat meat, she would hide outside the hunter's fence every day to watch the hunter clean up the prey. Later, the hunter was annoyed by her constant pestering and did teach her some skills to catch prey, so Mrs. Sheng didn't doubt at all that Sheng Wanqiu used some kind of sleeping pills.
