Chapter 889 You Are Still Smart

Of course, only one goatskin was left on the outside. Later, some beef and mutton were bought and left out in the open, since it was so cold that they wouldn't spoil.

I originally wanted to buy more, but I just couldn't find the opportunity, and there really weren't that many meat ration coupons available nationwide.

Just as she was thinking of turning back, she heard someone ahead say, "Today is the 21st. Why don't we go to the market ahead and take a look? The New Year is coming soon, and there must be villagers slaughtering their own cattle and sheep."

Yesterday, during the first snowfall, our guide, Batel, mentioned that there are regular markets on the 1st, 10th, and 21st of the lunar month, where local herders sell their own agricultural products, many of which are free of charge.

Seeing that it was still early, Chuxue followed.

After walking for about two or three miles, she arrived at an enclosed field where all sorts of things were sold. When she saw many stalls with sheep tied up, she immediately perked up.

Because she was in a hurry, she quickly bought a large sheep and two small sheep from a herder. The sheep was a mother sheep with two lambs. The herder said that someone in his family was sick and he urgently needed money, so he was selling them.

Chu Xue thought the price was reasonable, so she didn't try to negotiate it down.

She had them take the sheep to the spot she had chosen before she arrived. After they left, she used her mental energy to scan the area where no one was paying attention and quickly put the large and two small sheep into her spatial storage. She wandered around outside for a while, and when no one noticed her, she went back inside to continue her stroll.

Seeing that there were whole sheep, she bought half of one and had it cut up. She then bought a basket to put the pieces in before continuing her shopping.

The basket made things much easier for her, and she bought a lot of things she liked before leaving to head back, so that people wouldn't have to look for her if they couldn't find her.

She walks fast; what took her more than twenty minutes to get there, she returned in just over ten minutes.

As soon as I entered the formal market, I could see Sister Jiang, who was almost at the end of her shopping trip, in the distance.

She pretended to have just finished shopping as well, noticing that Sister Jiang was carrying quite a lot of things: "Sister Jiang, you bought a lot!" Upon hearing her voice, Sister Jiang replied, "Oh dear, I hadn't seen you at all, I was worried about you."

Seeing the basket on her back: "Where did you buy that basket?"

Chu Xue didn't mention that she went to the market: "I met a fellow villager ahead and exchanged sugar coupons with him. It's easier that way, otherwise it's inconvenient to carry them in my hand."

Sister Jiang laughed: "You're so smart."

However, she thought to herself: I really didn't see any place selling baskets, but if I did, I would definitely buy one.

Chu Xue thought to herself, "This is a government-run market, mainly selling beef and mutton. I definitely won't find anyone selling bamboo baskets here."

As the two were talking, they saw Xu Chengkun and Sister Huang coming towards them. It was clear that they had come prepared, as everyone was carrying something in their hands.

Seeing that everyone had bought roughly the same amount, just in varying quantities, and having bought almost everything, I strolled back home.

Xu Chengkun said, "When we go to pick up the slaughtered beef and mutton later, we'll ask the herders for some baskets or carrying containers, just like we did with Chuxue, to put the things we bought in."

To their surprise, when they arrived, their guide, Batel, had already prepared everything for them: "These are what I asked them to prepare. They're not worth much; consider them a gift from them."

Captain Ma laughed: "This is Batel's thoughtful gift, you can keep it. Next time we have a purchasing mission, we'll ask him to guide us."

Upon hearing this, Batel laughed and said, "That's great."
