Chapter 653 Reunion

She had thought she could remain calm and composed, but mentioning him still felt like touching an old wound, making even breathing painful.

She didn't want to continue the topic, and waved her hand wearily, "Forget it, let's not talk about it. Just mentioning him makes me upset."

Jin Ying (Fu Jinshen) opened his mouth. He wanted to tell her about the helplessness he had experienced over the past six months, the heart-wrenching longing he felt every time he returned home, and that he was right in front of her right now!
But... he is under the identity of Ember Shadow, and could disappear at any time.

Rather than letting her clear up the misunderstanding and feel sad and upset, it's better to... just leave it at that.

She thought that she would slowly forget her after she hurt her and live happily with her beastly husbands.

Overwhelmed by a profound sense of powerlessness, he could only swallow back all his explanations, all his resentment, and all his love, turning them into a barely audible sob in his throat.

"I'll take care of him. You can rest for a bit."

As if fleeing, Jin Ying (Fu Jinshen) hoisted Roger's tall body onto his shoulder and strode towards the cave entrance.

As night deepened, Bai Wanwan finally succumbed to exhaustion and leaned against the cold stone wall, drifting off to sleep.

She didn't sleep well; her brow was furrowed, and she would occasionally flinch slightly at the faint sounds coming from afar outside the cave.

He dared not leave Bai Wanwan alone in the cave for too long. He had planned to dig a hole and bury Roger to prevent him from being eaten by wild animals.

But he didn't go too far. He found a groove in the middle of the rock, just big enough to fit him in and avoid being eaten by large carnivores. He tore off some branches and rocks to cover himself. "Thank you for saving Wanwan. I hope you will be reborn into a better family in your next life."

After saying that, he turned around and went back into the cave without hesitation.

He walked in quietly, and after hearing her steady, long breaths, Jin Ying (Fu Jinshen) cautiously and almost greedily approached.

He gently straightened her slipped outer robe, his movements as tender as if he were handling a rare treasure.

And so, by the dim light of the campfire, he stared unabashedly at her sleeping face.

His gaze traced her familiar eyebrows, her straight nose, and her slightly pursed lips.

This might be his only chance to be so close to her, to not have to hide the surging emotions in his eyes, and to temporarily forget the social and temporal divide between them.

“Since you can’t let go of him, why not become his beast husband?” Ember Shadow’s voice echoed deep within his consciousness.

Fu Jinshen did not respond; his consciousness could not return, it would dissipate...

Moreover, making him watch Wanwan being pampered by other males every day is more painful than killing him.

"I can help you."

As Jin Ying finished speaking, Fu Jin Shen finally responded, "If Wan Wan is willing to accept you, I won't object, but I hope that if I'm gone in the future, you can love her forever and protect her with your life. Can you do that?"

Without a doubt, this is something almost every male can do.

“I will! Maybe I only have a good feeling for her now, and it can't reach the depth of your feelings for her, but I believe that I won't be any worse than you in the future.”

"That's good. I won't stop you, but you might not be able to get past her beastly husbands."

After saying that, Fu Jinshen stopped talking. He squatted motionless beside Bai Wanwan, guarding her like the most loyal guardian, or like a desperate believer, guarding the god he had long lost.

The campfire gradually died down, and the light inside the cave grew dimmer, but he still clearly outlined her silhouette, as if to etch this moment into the depths of his soul forever.

Until the middle of the night, a very faint sound came from the cave entrance.

He was instantly jolted awake from his reverie, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes—a mixture of relief and reluctance.

He quickly got up and moved silently to the cave entrance.

The three worried and tired faces of Chief Rong, Yin Ze, and Jin Yi came into his view.

"Where's Wanwan?" Yin Ze asked anxiously as he walked past him into the room.

Jin Yi and Qiu Rong followed closely behind. Fu Jinshen stepped aside and did not stop them.

When their eyes fell on Bai Wanwan sleeping peacefully inside the cave, the three of them almost simultaneously breathed a sigh of relief, their tense nerves finally relaxing.

"Jinying, thank you!" Chief Rong lowered his voice, his tone filled with sincere gratitude.

He couldn't bear to lose Wanwan, so from now on, if Jinying needs anything, all the males will do their best to help.

Jin Ying shook his head, stepped aside to let them in, and said in a calm voice, "I found her by chance. There were too many beastmen outside, so it wasn't convenient to take her back to find you. I could only hide for the time being and left marks for you along the way. Sure enough, you found us very quickly."

Although their conversation was very soft, it still disturbed Bai Wanwan, who was sleeping lightly.

Her eyelashes fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes, adjusting to the dim light, and saw the familiar figures surrounding her.

"Wanwan!" Jin Yi immediately stepped forward and hugged her tightly, his arms trembling slightly from the lingering fear. "Did they... hurt you?"

Bai Wanwan gently shook her head in his warm embrace, feeling the relief of having regained what she had lost. "No,"

She paused, then added, "I wasn't hurt at all."

Her gaze passed over Jin Yi's shoulder and landed on Qiu Rong and Yin Ze, who were also looking worried.

“Thanks to Ember Shadow and… Roger,” she said, her voice filled with complex and indescribable emotions.

"Roger?" Chief Rong frowned.

"Yes, it was he who injured the Beast God that allowed us to leave safely," Ember Shadow added, not taking credit for Roger's achievement.

"Where is he?" Jin Yi immediately asked.

Roger was always a potential threat. Even though he saved Wanwan, his only goal was to win her over.

If possible, it would be best to eliminate this potential problem.

"He...is dead."

Bai Wanwan's words startled the males slightly. Then, the chieftain approached and picked her up from the ground. "Wanwan, we need to leave as soon as possible."

“Okay.” She reached out and wrapped her arms around his masculine neck.

“Jinying,” Chief Rong said, turning to the side with a grave expression after holding the female in his arms. “The Elephant Clan is in dire straits, and we must return as soon as possible.”

Since Ember Shadow helped them find Wanwan, they couldn't just stand by and leave.

Moreover, preserving the elephant race and preventing more orcs from being controlled and turned into enemies is a necessary choice to avoid them facing an even greater crisis.

“Okay.” Jin Ying nodded.

Everyone immediately prepared to set off.

With Bai Wanwan in his arms, Chief Rong, under the protection of Jin Yi and Yin Ze, quickly and cautiously left the cave where they had temporarily taken refuge.

Jin Ying followed closely behind. Before stepping out of the cave, he glanced back one last time at the somewhat rough "grave" made of piled stones. His gaze lingered for a moment on the obscuring branches and leaves before he turned and disappeared into the night, chasing after the group ahead.

Outside the cave, the night wind howled, rustling the branches and leaves in the woods and masking many subtle movements.

And right there in that simple tomb formed by the rock groove...

Beneath the deathly silence, a faint, almost imperceptible movement was quietly taking place.

I've taken everyone's suggestions into account and made some slight changes to my ideas. Since it's almost the end, I won't make any major alterations. (* ̄3 ̄)╭
