Chapter 624 is Roger!
They followed for another half hour or so, when the orange-tier male who had been scouting ahead returned and said, "They've stopped."
Bai Wanwan immediately asked, "Are they resting? What's the surrounding environment like?"
"Rest in a clearing in the woods."
"I'll go keep an eye on it."
The chieftain called out to him, “Your bestial form is too conspicuous. Perhaps these controlled males haven’t noticed you. But if the orcs who control them are also nearby, you could easily be discovered.”
Bai Wanwan nodded, "Chi Rong is right, Yin Ze, you don't need to go, and nobody else needs to go either. I have a plan."
She smiled reassuringly at her beastmen husbands, and then, without hesitation, decisively spent 10,000 points to exchange for an insect-shaped reconnaissance machine.
"Jin Yi, this is for you. Quietly approach them and place this near them."
Jin Yi took the box, which was slightly cool to the touch. Although he didn't know exactly what it was, he was already used to and trusted the various magical items that Bai Wanwan had taken out.
He gripped the box tightly, his deep eyes fixed on her, and he instructed her with some concern, "Okay, I'll go. Don't leave Chief Rong and Yin Ze, and be extremely careful."
"Don't worry," Bai Wanwan smiled reassuringly at him, "They're all here, nothing will happen."
Watching Jin Yi's figure disappear silently into the dense forest like a ghost, Bai Wanwan immediately found a relatively secluded spot with a wide view, took out the tablet-like monitor that came with the insect detector from her system space, and prepared to operate it.
This insect detector is designed to be quite intelligent. As soon as it leaves the specially designed shielded box, it will automatically activate and enter standby mode, waiting for her remote commands.
The waiting time seemed rather long.
About ten minutes later, the previously black monitor screen suddenly flickered, and then the blurry, shaky image gradually stabilized and became clear.
Clearly, the insect-shaped scout has left the box.
Bai Wanwan perked up and immediately began to carefully control the distant insect by touching the virtual joystick and buttons on the screen.
She directed the insects to slowly approach the group of seated orcs, crawling all the way to the grass at their feet, and even past an orc's outstretched palm.
However, the controlled males did not react at all; their eyes were blank as they stared ahead, completely ignoring the insect at their feet.
"It's just like Hua Han's condition back then..." Bai Wanwan looked at the numb, stiff, and lifeless faces on the screen and muttered to herself.
They were like puppets whose souls had been taken away, just sitting there quietly, without exchanging any words with each other, as if waiting for something.
"What is this?" Yin Ze moved closer to her and saw the "board" in her hand that emitted a faint light and displayed a clear image. His eyes were filled with surprise and curiosity.
Bai Wanwan looked up at him and smiled, explaining, "This is a machine that can see in place of our eyes. Through it, we can safely see what's happening in the distance."
She briefly explained the function.
Yin Ze showed great interest. He sat down next to Bai Wanwan and leaned over to stare at the screen with her.
"They seem... to be waiting for some command?" he wondered, observing the orcs' stillness.
“Yes, I think so too.” Bai Wanwan nodded in agreement. “Then let’s wait and see what they are waiting for.”
She skillfully maneuvered the insect up a nearby tree entwined with dense vines, choosing the best vantage point to overlook all the orcs below, and brought it to a steady stop.
Time passed slowly in the silent wait. The scene on the screen remained almost unchanged, the orcs motionless as stone statues.
Bai Wanwan stared intently at the screen, her eyes starting to ache and become dry from focusing for so long.
As the sun began to set and darkness fell, she couldn't help but worry about the effectiveness of the reconnaissance device at night.
The prolonged concentration left her feeling exhausted, and she couldn't help but yawn slightly, a few tears welling up in her eyes.
Yin Ze had been quietly by her side. Seeing this, he reached out his strong arm, gently put his arm around her shoulder, and pulled her closer to him, whispering, "Lean on me, it will be more comfortable."
"Mmm." Bai Wanwan didn't refuse, obediently leaning into his warm and firm embrace, adjusting to a more comfortable position, and even tilting her head back to affectionately plant a light kiss on his beautifully shaped chin.
Feeling the soft touch on his lips and her rare dependence, Yin Ze's lips curved into a satisfied smile.
Bai Wanwan has many beast husbands around her, so it's rare to have an opportunity like this, where she can be alone with someone and enjoy a moment of peace and tenderness.
His arm tightened unconsciously around her shoulder, and he lowered his head, his eyes filled with tenderness, wanting to steal a kiss while things were quiet...
However, just as his lips touched hers, before he could savor the moment, Bai Wanwan abruptly pushed him away, pressing her hand against her chest.
"Yin Ze, wait!" Bai Wanwan's voice was urgent and focused on discovering a new situation. Her eyes were fixed on the screen. "Look there!"
A pang of regret crossed Yin Ze's mind, but he immediately looked at the monitor in the direction she pointed.
At the edge of the insect-shaped scout's field of vision, in the twilight-shrouded woodland, some moving figures could be vaguely seen.
At first, the distance was very far, and they appeared as just a few blurry dots on the screen, impossible to distinguish.
But as those figures slowly and silently approached, the scene gradually became clearer...
When she saw the face of the orc walking at the front, Bai Wanwan's pupils contracted, and a look of surprise appeared on her face.
"It's Roger!"
Bai Wanwan unconsciously clenched her fingers, staring intently at the live feed from the tablet in her hand.
The insect-shaped scout cleverly concealed itself among the dense foliage, transmitting back clear images of distant scenes.
When that face, with its somewhat sinister yet familiar look, unexpectedly took center stage on the screen, she was both surprised and certain that this was indeed the case.
Surprisingly, I saw him again so clearly in this place and at this time; and sure enough, his shadow was behind all these things.
Roger, seemingly unperturbed, walked among the group of controlled orcs with vacant eyes and stiff movements, as if inspecting his puppet army.
She immediately suppressed the turmoil in her heart and turned to look at Yin Ze, who was guarding her side.
“Yin Ze,” Bai Wanwan spoke very quickly, but in a very low voice, “Go and call Chief Rong over quickly.”
"Then don't move, I'll be right back."
