Chapter 436 Bad Memories

The simple yet sturdy stone house on the cliff became a temporary haven for the three.

The sea breeze was blocked by the towering cliffs, and inside the house, only their breathing could be heard.

Jiaoyin leaned against the cold stone wall, closed her eyes and regulated her breathing, trying to repair her depleted innate power.

Hua Han huddled on a pile of dry grass near the fire pit, her face somewhat pale.

Bai Wanwan lay on the stone bed covered with thick animal hides, her body finally relaxing.

The desperate escape across the ocean, the extreme tension, and the constant growth of the baby in her womb all drained her energy.

Now, in this simple yet safe stone house, the moment her body touched the soft animal hide, boundless exhaustion overwhelmed her like a tidal wave.

Before she could even think more about her beast husband or the future, her eyelids closed heavily, and her consciousness sank rapidly into the abyss of darkness.

She slept soundly, as if she wanted to make up for all the time she had missed over the past ten days.

The physical fatigue was slowly soothed by the warmth of the animal hide and the relatively safe environment.

However, in the middle of the night, she woke up inexplicably.

I suddenly opened my eyes, my heart pounding anxiously in my chest.

By the dim light from the window, she saw that Jiaoyin and Huahan had woken up at some point and were cautiously peering out through the only narrow window of the stone house.

The howling wind outside, the faint sound of distant waves, and even the occasional rustling of nocturnal animals all disappeared.

She subconsciously touched her swollen belly, and the little life there seemed to sense something, stirring slightly.

"What happened?" Bai Wanwan's voice was hoarse from just waking up and had a hint of tension that was barely perceptible.

Jiaoyin quickly turned around, gestured for her to be quiet, and lowered her voice with a serious expression: "Shh! Something's not right outside."

Jiao Yin's long silver hair gleamed faintly in the darkness, and the lines of her profile were taut.

Hua Han held her breath, her fox-like eyes, which always carried a hint of mockery, now sharp as knives, staring intently at the impenetrable darkness outside the window.

Bai Wanwan gently lifted the animal skin and slowly approached them.

Seeing this, Hua Han stepped forward to help her up, saying, "You should rest well. We're here, so there won't be any danger."

Bai Wanwan shook her head. "Can't sleep? What's going on?"

“There seem to be many orcs lurking around. Their auras are chaotic, filled with…greed and violence.” As the Merfolk King, he was extremely sensitive to the auras of land beasts, and at this moment he clearly detected those menacing, bloodthirsty creatures lurking on the land.

Hua Han also withdrew her gaze and added, "There are quite a few of them, and they're slowly closing in. They might just be stray beasts..."

He looked at Bai Wanwan's protruding belly, a hint of worry flashing in his eyes.

For some stray animals, pregnant females are a more tempting "resource" than prey.

"A stray beast?"

Bai Wanwan's heart sank suddenly!
It instantly brought back the most horrifying images she least wanted to recall: the towering flames that shot into the sky when the cat tribe was attacked, the shrill screams of the tribespeople, and the pervasive smell of blood in the air...

They were a group of ruthless thugs with no moral compass, who only knew how to burn, kill, and loot!
"Wanwan, it's not safe here."

Hua Han made a decisive decision, his eyes becoming unusually resolute. "Have Jiao Yin protect you, and whatever you do, don't come out! I'll go out and scout the situation first, see if I can distract some of them, or..." He didn't finish his sentence, but his meaning was clear: create chaos and look for a chance to survive.

"Be careful!" Bai Wanwan couldn't help but warn his retreating figure. Hua Han paused slightly, turned back, and gave her a reassuring smile. "I haven't delivered you to your beast husband yet, I'll be fine."

After saying that, his figure slipped silently through the crack in the stone house door like a ghost, quickly disappearing into the thick darkness of the night.

However, Hua Han had only been gone for less than a minute.

"Roar!"

"It's a wild animal attack!"

"Quickly, protect the food!"

"what!"

The mournful roars of beasts and the terrified screams... instantly shattered the deathly silence, like cold water thrown into boiling oil, exploding throughout the tribe.

Chaotic sounds surged in from all directions like a tide, interspersed with Hua Han's deliberately amplified, provocative shouts, clearly indicating that he had already started fighting with the homeless outside!
"What's going on outside?" Bai Wanwan's heart raced, and she was sweating for Hua Han, but the heaviness and downward pressure in her abdomen made her slow down.

She had a vague feeling that she might be about to give birth.

"Careful!" Jiao Yin steadied her, and Bai Wanwan's upper body leaned against Jiao Yin's chest because of the cramping in her abdomen.

Bai Wanwan took two breaths to calm down. She must not give birth at this time!
Just as they were silently praying, the flimsy wooden door of the stone house they were in was suddenly slammed open from the outside with a tremendous force, making a loud "bang"!
Wood chips flew everywhere! Then, several hideous, greedy, blood-stained faces peered through the cracks in the door and windows, and a stench wafted out!

"Female! There's a female here!"

"Break the door down!"

An excited, distorted roar rang out from outside the door, followed by another heavy thud, as the wooden door teetered on the brink of collapse!

Bai Wanwan's face turned deathly pale, and she gripped Jiaoyin's arm so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

The gazes of those stray animals, like maggots clinging to her bones, sent chills down her spine!

Jiaoyin sensed her emotions and pulled her even closer behind him, a terrifying storm instantly forming in his icy blue eyes.

He gently patted Bai Wanwan's hand, which was tightly gripping his. The gesture carried a strange, comforting power, and his voice, as cold as polar ice, strangely dispelled some of her panic.
"Don't be afraid. These stray beasts are all low-level beastmen and won't harm you."

He had already realized that the orcs outside the door were only green-tier males, and even if his innate power had not fully recovered, these males could not harm him in the slightest.

Just as the wooden door was about to be completely smashed open, Jiaoyin moved!

He didn't even open the door; he just waved his hand sharply at the overburdened wooden door!

"Crack!"

Countless water droplets condensed out of thin air and burst forth wildly from inside the door panels and through the gaps in the window frames!

The stray animals crowding at the door were caught off guard and instantly pierced and frozen!
The screams abruptly stopped, leaving only a few gruesome corpses blocking the doorway.

Hua Han, who was outside, kept a close eye on this side. Even though she knew that Jiao Yin's talent was not low, she did not dare to be completely at ease.

Only now did he relax, his figure moving like a ghost through the chaotic battlefield.

Using his agile movements and short bone blade, he targeted the vital points of the stray beasts. Each dodge and thrust sent sprays of blood flying, while he constantly provoked his enemies with various sarcastic and taunting words, keeping a portion of the stray beasts' attention firmly on him.

Jiaoyin stood guard like a rock at the entrance and windows of the stone house, and any stray beast that tried to approach was killed by him with precision and directness.
