Chapter 203 Human Nature

"Damn it, open the door for me! I was supposed to be in the VIP compartment!"

The burly man, who had narrowly escaped death from the rear of the train, was covered in blood, making it impossible to tell whether it was from a different species or his own.

He was on the verge of a breakdown, pounding on the car door with such frantic shouting that he was more terrifying than a monster.

"I spent 30,000 yuan to buy this seat! You dare to lock me out? Even if I get out of here alive today, I'll kill you all!"

"Shut up!"

The sentry held his saber in front of the burly man, the blade reflecting his almost distorted face. He said, "If you want to live, stay calm. If you cause any more trouble, I'll kick you down!"

"You're the one who drove me to the back of the train! If it weren't for you, would I have run into these bastards?! What kind of damn sentries are you? You're nothing but beasts who lick the boots of nobles! You can't even kill a single monster, yet you dare to act like a big shot in front of me?!"

When people are driven to the brink, they will always throw their sharpest shards at their fellow human beings, even if those people saved their lives just moments before.

"Yes, yes, we pay so many taxes every day just to support you, so why can't you even handle a monster!"

"Exactly! It's either we all live, or we all die!!"

"..."

The ordinary passengers abandoned outside the carriages were no ordinary people who had survived the massacre of the corrupted men. Incited by the burly man, they began to recklessly ram the carriages.

The old green train was already in disrepair, and with the brute force of human intervention, the carriage doors soon became rickety.

The people inside put up a fierce resistance, and the metal door frame groaned with each impact, dust falling everywhere.

"Waaaaah... Mommy and Daddy, I'm scared..."

Will we turn into monsters too?

There were also several frail children in the VIP carriage. They had never seen anything like this before, and they all hid in the arms of the adults, trembling.

Their parents could only try to remain calm and comfort them while holding them even tighter...

As Lin Nan stood up, the hem of her clothes was gently tugged.

The boy, who had been unconscious, woke up at some point, his weak fingers twirling at her clothes: "Sister...where are you going?"

"Don't be afraid, just stay put." Her palm brushed across the top of the boy's head, her spiritual power transforming into a gentle breeze to dispel his invisible fear.

Lin Nan walked to the back of the crowd and said, "Make way, open the door, and let the sentries outside in first."

The young girl's abrupt voice silenced the previously noisy crowd. The passengers blocking the door turned around in surprise, only to see an extremely ordinary-looking woman. They couldn't help but curse, "Where did this old woman come from? What are you saying? Let them in now, what if there's a monster in there?!"

"Holy Mother, get out of my way!"

Lin Nan remained unmoved by their words and continued soberly, "If you don't open the door, we'll be the first to die."

"Ha, this is unbelievable. Our carriage has level three defense, how could we possibly die before them?"

"When the aliens arrive, they will be the first to be attacked. Those outside can hold them off for us."

"That's it!"

After hearing what these people said, Lin Nan couldn't help but sneer.

"Even if we can hold them off for a while, so what? Of our group, only a few sentries outside are capable of fighting. If they die too, where will we survive?"

Lin Nan's voice was soft, yet it was like a sharp icicle, piercing the restless air inside the carriage.

She stood under the swaying lights, her dusty clothes still stained with powder, looking like any ordinary woman. But when she looked up, the passengers who had been shouting and cursing stopped uttering a single word in response.

Those eyes were so still, as still as a wasteland before a blizzard.

"And didn't you hear that?" She turned around and pointed to the other end of the carriage, which everyone was ignoring, and said quietly, "We have no other choice but to open the door."

As soon as Lin Nan finished speaking, an even more terrifying noise suddenly came from outside the door connecting to the control room. The crowd fell into an eerie silence.

At first, there was only the hum of the wind blowing through the metal, followed by a faint scraping sound from some unknown seams.

The sounds grew closer, like countless fingernails scratching at sheet metal, inching, struggling, and crawling toward them.

The man closest to the door seemed to see something, suddenly collapsing to the ground, his face deathly pale: "Outside the door... there are monsters... so many... so many... Ahhhhhhh—"

Before he could finish speaking, a sharp claw suddenly pierced through his head, instantly killing him.

The deceased's brains splattered on the faces of the nearest passengers, warm and carrying a sweet, metallic smell.

Everyone froze in place, even their breathing stopped.

The claw that pierced through the metal door was still dripping with murky slime, gleaming eerily under the overhead lights of the carriage.

Only the young girl whose brains had been splattered trembled, emitting silent sobs.

Sudden--

Click——click——click——

More sharp claws emerged from the crack in the door, like mycelium growing wildly after the rain, slowly and steadily expanding their territory.

The carriage door groaned under the strain, and the hinge screws splintered off one by one.

"Ah ah ah ah ah--"

This time, without anyone's command, the people in the VIP box eagerly opened the door.

Although the carriage door was open, it was blocked by people outside.

"Help! Open the door and let us out!!!"

"Open the door!!"

"Help! Monster! Monster!!!"

"Hahaha, karma! Serves you right for not opening the door earlier, now you're all going to be living in the dark!! Die, you bastards!"

The burly man, who was at the forefront, held the car door tightly, preventing the people inside from prying it open even slightly.

The entire carriage was thrown into chaos, with terrified screams and desperate cries echoing in the confined space.

The passengers were pushing and shoving each other, and some even started climbing out of the windows by stepping on other people's shoulders.

But as soon as he opened the window, something unknown outside ripped off his entire head—

Blood gushed out like a fountain, splattering the entire carriage and making it look like a terrifying hell!
The entire train began to shake violently, and Lin Nan heard the sound of something breaking outside.

The protective shield was damaged.

"Sister...run!"

The little boy had gotten up at some point and grabbed her, trying to escape.

However, the only exit was blocked, and a group of people were crammed behind the narrow car door, crying and screaming frantically.

Lin Nan shielded the little boy behind her. Compared to the people around her, she seemed unusually calm. The vines, invisible to ordinary people, had already surrounded the entire carriage, creating a relatively safe space.

She could sense that although the monsters behind the door looked terrifying, they were just ordinary people who had been infected. She could also sense the emotions that remained in "their" minds before they died.

These "people" aren't scary; what's scary is the one behind them...

I'm back. Let me catch my breath; I've completely forgotten what I was going to write... I'll write something scary to scare you all, hahaha!
