Chapter 300 Cici
Chapter 300 Cici
At the same time Cici made a sound.
The zombified landlady seemed to sense something, letting out a sharp hiss in her throat and scratching her nails on the stairs with a grating sound.
Cici was so frightened that her pupils trembled violently. She stood there stunned, barely managing to maintain her standing posture.
The zombified landlady twisted and moved her body in a bizarre manner, her rotting jaw opening and closing repeatedly, and blood dripping from the corner of her mouth along her wrinkled skin.
Fortunately, the zombie landlady was blocked by the stairs and couldn't get up for a while.
Cici muttered to herself, her whole body trembling: "No...it can't be...why is this happening?"
Just then, the zombified landlady suddenly accelerated her climb, her withered fingers making a snapping sound as they brushed against the stairs.
Cici suddenly took a half step back and slammed the door shut, but her lower back bumped into the entryway cabinet, causing the picture frame to fall and shatter.
Fortunately, the door was sturdy enough to keep the zombified landlady out.
Cici calmed down and tried to call the police, but there was no signal.
She tried turning on her computer to check online information, but couldn't connect to the internet.
Hearing the roars coming from close by outside the door, and watching the large horde of zombies drawn by the gunfire moving in groups outside the window, Cici was filled with despair.
Among the horde of zombies was a female zombie wearing a floral dress, her neck bent at a ninety-degree angle, her eyeballs bulging, crawling and swaying strangely.
As if sensing something, it suddenly turned its head, its murky gaze meeting Cici's terrified eyes.
After staring at the group of zombies outside the window for a long time, Cici had to believe what was happening before her eyes.
Undeterred, she dialed the SOS number again, but there was still no signal. However, she did notice the missed calls and unread text messages on her phone.
Those were more than a dozen missed phone calls and reminder text messages from my parents, who were far away in China.
The latest text message, sent a day ago, reads: "Sisi, please don't go out easily! Think of a way..."
Cici's fingernails dug deep into the edge of the phone, and spiderweb-like cracks appeared on the screen under the pressure.
Cici, bewildered by the apocalypse, glanced at the world map on the wall, finally fixing her gaze on the location of China. Only one unwavering thought remained in her mind—to go home!
As another gunshot ripped through the sky, Cici suddenly grabbed her backpack and stuffed it with all the food and useful supplies she could find.
Even if the roars of zombies outside the door made the door panel vibrate, even if the whole city was shrouded in a bloody haze, even if this journey home was destined to be full of unknowns and dangers!
Cici's eyes blazed with an unprecedented intensity and determination—no matter how many hardships and obstacles she faced, she was determined to return to the land that had given her life, to her parents.
Her gaze swept across every corner of the room as she pondered her next move.
The howls of the zombies outside the door surged like a tidal wave, relentlessly assaulting her nerves, as if urging her to make a decision as soon as possible.
Cici took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down.
She tiptoed to the balcony and cautiously peered out.
On the old streets under the setting sun, scattered zombies wandered aimlessly.
Their twisted bodies, rotting skin, and empty eyes create a chilling scene.
These former humans have now become bloodthirsty monsters, roaming the streets of this post-apocalyptic world.
Cici gritted her teeth and made up her mind.
She couldn't just sit and wait to die; she had to leave this dangerous place as soon as possible and find a way back to China.
She calmed down and carefully reorganized her backpack, stuffing in as much food, water, clothing, and other supplies as she could find.
While rummaging through the items, her gaze fell upon the Tang sword that had been gathering dust in the corner.
This Tang sword was a gift her father gave her when she left China to study in the United States.
At that time, she was not interested in the Taoist tradition that her father was obsessed with, and felt that these things were useless in modern society.
However, in this apocalyptic world, this Tang sword seemed to have become her only source of comfort and support.
Cici slowly drew her Tang sword. The blade gleamed coldly in the dim light, and a familiar yet strange feeling welled up inside her. She gripped the hilt and tried swinging it a few times.
Although I haven't practiced for many years and my movements are a bit rusty, my body seems to have retained some memory, and my moves are still quite smooth.
Cici took a deep breath, gripped the Tang sword tightly in her hand, and felt a surge of inexplicable courage, as if her parents were right beside her.
She knew that this Tang sword would accompany her through the difficult journey of her return.
As time passed, the noise outside the door gradually subsided.
Five minutes, ten minutes, twenty minutes passed.
Cici knew she couldn't delay any longer.
She listened intently to the sounds outside the door, carefully opened it, held her breath, and tiptoed out of the room.
The hallway was filled with a pungent, putrid stench that made people want to vomit.
She suppressed her discomfort, looked around, and walked downstairs step by step.
With each step, it felt like stepping on my own heartbeat; I was so nervous that I dared not make a sound.
Just as she was about to reach the corner of the stairs, she suddenly heard a low growl.
Cici was startled and immediately stopped, pressing herself against the wall, barely daring to breathe.
She peeked out slightly and looked in the direction of the sound. She saw that the landlady, who had turned into a zombie, was facing away from her and seemed to be gnawing on something.
Cici gripped her Tang sword tightly, pondering how to get through this place safely.
Although she was mentally prepared to kill the zombies, she also knew that confronting them head-on was too dangerous, and getting infected would be troublesome. It would be best to find a way to bypass them.
She moved her feet carefully, trying to avoid places that might make noise.
However, at this crucial moment, she suddenly stepped on an unusually loose plank.
"Crack!"
A crisp sound rang out, sounding particularly jarring in the quiet stairwell.
The zombie immediately stopped eating, slowly turned its head, and its murky eyes locked onto Cici.
It let out a sharp roar, opened its rotting mouth, and pounced on Cici.
Cici's heart tightened, and as she retreated, she instinctively raised her Tang sword and assumed a defensive stance.
But the zombies were faster than she had imagined, and they reached the stairs in an instant.
In the nick of time, Cici suddenly remembered the Taoist teachings her father had once taught her—an instinct she had developed since childhood!
Before she could think further, she subconsciously recited the incantation, and the Tang sword in her hand suddenly emitted a faint light.
Just as the zombie's claws were about to grab her, Cici instinctively used her move, wielding her Tang sword.
A cold light flashed.
The blade easily sliced through the zombie's neck, and the zombie's head fell to the ground with a thud.
Cici looked at the zombie lying on the ground and felt a wave of nausea, but she was also surprised and excited.
After all, no matter how sharp the Tang sword was, it would be almost impossible for her to sever a zombie's neck with a single blow, given her strength.
She never expected that the Taoist traditions she once considered useless would play such a powerful role in this apocalyptic world.
However, before she could even catch her breath, more roars of zombies came from outside.
