Chapter 78 Killing

Luklein took the trembling Martin and rowed the raft back to the other side.

On the raft, Martin was sandwiched between two people, and a strong sense of uneasiness rose in his heart unconsciously. He couldn't help but glance at Luke from the corner of his eye, but he didn't expect to meet Luke's eyes. This eye contact immediately made Martin feel cold all over. He found that Luke's eyes didn't seem to be looking at a living person, but more like looking at an object, so he quickly lowered his head.

The raft slowly approached the shore, and Old Eck came to greet it:
"Sir, you are back!"

"How was the bear hunt? Was it a success?"

"Everything is going well. Let's get ready to kill the bear," Luc said as he waded through the water and, together with Ryan, pulled the raft ashore. He nodded slightly and said, "By the way, take your men and build another raft to transport the brown bear's body. Remember, the sooner the better. Jill and Robert are still guarding it over there."

"Hey~ I'll do it right away!"

Hearing Luc's words, a sincere smile broke out on Old Eike's face. Hunting a giant bear is something worth celebrating no matter where you are.

Happily taking the axe handed over by Ryan, Old Ek's eyes fell on Martin involuntarily, and he was slightly surprised. The adult usually didn't pay much attention to this person, so why did he come back with him this time?

"And take Martin with you, and let him help carry the wood."

"Take him with you?"

Old Eike wanted to say something but stopped himself, but seeing Luc's determined eyes, he nodded, called a few strong peasant women, and took Martin to the forest.

In the blink of an eye, only a few people were left in the valley, including Ryan, who had disappeared at some point. Luc walked back to the cabin, took out his grindstone, and sharpened his butcher knife, ready to butcher the bear. Seeing little Charlie coming over, Luc patted its head and said with a smile, "Old buddy, you'll have something good to eat soon."

……

Deep in the forest, several burly peasant women were chopping trees with all their might. The banging sounds kept reaching Old Eck's ears, but the old village chief turned a deaf ear to them. His clear eyes were fixed on the distant Martin House, which was shrouded in darkness.
The sophisticated old Eck was not like Jill. He never believed a word Martin said from beginning to end. Although he never beat or scolded Martin, he hated Martin just as much.

Seeing that Martin was just moving the wood silently, Old Eck turned his head and lit a piece of mugwort to drive away insects and mosquitoes in the forest.

Turning his head to look at the wooden house with a bright bonfire at the foot of the hill, as the only elder in the forest, old Eike could see Luc's wisdom better than anyone else.

He originally thought that Luc was just the son of a minor noble, but with the detailed contact and what he saw and heard during this period, Old Eike gradually felt that maybe Luc was more like the illegitimate son of a big family.
And he is that kind of extremely pragmatic aristocrat.

There's no need to dwell on the various novel construction tools. Let's just talk about Old Eike's arithmetic, which he was always proud of. In his middle age, he worked for a long time as a merchant escort. Unlike other hired soldiers, he was more agile. Through deliberate practice, he learned arithmetic well, which was one of the key reasons he later became the village chief. After all, the village chief had to coordinate everyone's supplies and trade with merchants. Even if he was good at arithmetic, he would often be cheated. If he didn't know arithmetic at all, he would probably lose all his linen.
But it was precisely because of this that Old Eck, who knew a little about arithmetic, was actually deeply shocked by Luc not long ago.
Old Eike couldn't help but recall Luc's proficiency in single-digit multiplication. The arithmetic that required him to think for a while before giving the answer, but the other party could always answer it fluently, which surprised Old Eike and made him more convinced that Lord Luc must have received a good education.

"I wonder what Lord Luke's family motto is."

"Butler Old Eck! Butler Old Eck!"

A burst of anxious shouting interrupted Old Eck's thoughts. When he came to his senses, he saw a peasant woman pointing at the distance with a panicked look on her face, her mouth opening and closing.
"Butler Old Eck, Martin is missing!"

"what?!"

Old Ek's eyes widened instantly and he looked back quickly. He saw that Martin, who was just in the night, had completely disappeared. There were only rows of wood on the grass blown by the wind. Where was Martin?

"Damn it! Martin escaped!" Old Ike slapped his forehead and shouted in self-blame, "Amy, go inform the adults quickly. Everyone else, come with me and search everywhere. We must not let Martin get away!"

No matter what, Martin was Luc's property. Seeing him slip away while he was not paying attention, old Eike suddenly panicked. He was about to lead everyone to look for him when he saw a burly figure gradually emerging from the dense forest in the darkness. The faint moonlight shone on his face, reflecting the man's slightly freckled face.

"Ryan?"

Old Ek recognized the man's appearance and looked down to see a guy who looked like a dead dog being dragged by Ryan's right hand.
Every time he was dragged, a trail of blood was left on the grass. His throat seemed to be blocked, and he could only whimper and moan in pain.

This person is none other than Martin.

"Whoo~"

Old Eike let out a breath of foul air. It’s good that he didn’t run away.

"Old Eike, Martin was trying to escape when I happened to see him, so I stabbed him twice in the thigh."

Ryan greeted Old Eck and the others, then pointed to Martin next to him and said with a smile, "I think the wood seems to be almost cut. Perfect, let's drag it to the cabin and assemble the raft. By the way, hand this thing over to the master for disposal."

Old Ike looked at Martin deeply, nodded and said, "Okay."

The group rushed back to the manor with Mu Tou and Martin.

Luc had already sharpened his butcher knife, and at some point he took out his knight's sword and chopped a bunch of vines. He didn't show much surprise when he saw Ryan dragging Martin over. He directed the peasant woman to arrange the wood and asked about the situation.

After understanding what happened, Luke slowly walked to Martin, took the debris out of Martin's mouth, looked down at Martin, whose legs were bleeding, and asked coldly:

"is that true?"

"Master, please forgive me this time. I swear to God, I will never run away again."

Listening to Martin's intermittent crying, Luc stuffed the debris back into Martin's mouth. He just wanted to hear Martin admit the truth.

Martin's mouth was gagged again, and he looked desperate. His eyes moved between Luke and Ryan, trying to find a trace of pity, but he could only see the other's indifferent expressions.

Luke waved to Ryan. Without saying a word, Ryan took the knight's sword in one hand, grabbed Martin's neck with the other, and dragged him to the river bank like a dead dog.

Mary and other peasant women who heard the news rushed over and surrounded the small open space.

As Luc's gesture fell, Ryan, who had already stepped on Martin, raised his sword. Amid Mary's scream, the sword fell and cut off the struggling Martin's head with one sword!
Blood splattered all over the ground, and the dead head rolled to the side with its eyes open. Little Charlie smelled the blood and wanted to lick it, but Luke grabbed the reins.

"Bury the body."

Luc said this lightly and continued to fiddle with his cane.
