Chapter 69: Set out to suppress the bandits
Chapter 69: Set out to suppress the bandits
Leaving Old Ek alone to rest in the house, the two walked out of the wooden house. As soon as they walked out, their expressions suddenly became gloomy.
"Could it be the wild boar cave that Master Old Eike mentioned?"
"Probably."
Luke's expression was grim. His guess was similar to Ryan's. That wild boar cave was most likely the cave where he and Ryan hunted wild boars last winter!
If this is true, the bandits who attacked Ward Village are almost near the Luke Mountains and Forests!
"It seems that even if we don't want to help Old Eike get revenge, we have to help him."
Luc narrowed his eyes. He couldn't even tolerate a hornet's nest nearby, so there was no way he would tolerate a group of extremely dangerous bandits hiding next to him.
Instead of waiting for them to discover the forest and then attack in the middle of the night, it is better to strike first!
With murderous intent in his heart, Luke's tone suddenly changed. He turned his head and said to Ryan in a stern tone:
"Go call Robert. We are still short of manpower if we want to attack."
"It's the master!"
Robert was sitting uneasily in his room. In the end, he did not escape at night. During this time, he had gotten to know the surrounding situation. There must be no human habitation within dozens of miles. If he escaped rashly, he might encounter some danger. Besides, he did not want to run away again. Once a person becomes comfortable, it is difficult for him to like the life of escape.
"Robert, Robert!"
There was a sudden knock on the door. Robert, who hadn't slept all night, stood up quickly. After hearing Ryan's voice, he slowly opened the wooden door, looked around, and then said, "Mr. Ryan, what's going on?"
"The master is calling you over. He has something to tell you!"
Ryan glanced up and down at Robert. He had been in contact with Robert for a long time, but seeing Robert's frightened look, he was a little worried about whether he could be competent in attacking the bandits.
Don’t scare yourself to death before you reach the bandit’s lair!
When Robert heard that it was the master calling him, his heart skipped a beat, but he still followed Ryan obediently and came to Luke.
But when Robert heard that Luc wanted to follow him to fight the bandits, his face turned pale as paper in an instant. But after a while, he nodded and agreed with a serious expression.
When the lord went to war, he had the right to recruit the residents of his territory as soldiers, not to mention that as a slave, he had the obligation to follow the lord to the battlefield. If he did not agree, Luc could immediately deprive his family of all their property, leaving them with nothing to eat, and then expel them from the country.
Sometimes, a man with a family can be easier to control than a monogamous man, and here it is.
Thinking of Mary and the children, Robert finally agreed.
"Alright, the faster the attack, the better. The longer we delay, the greater the chance that the bandits will discover us first. Of course, they just robbed a village and won't be wandering around for a while, but that won't give me much time to prepare. Stop everything you're doing for the next few days and get your equipment ready!"
Compared with the bandits, Luke's side is not outnumbered, but their equipment is much better.
Luc didn't want to help Old Eike because he didn't want to cause trouble for no reason, but in fact, if he really fought with that group of bandits, the outcome would be uncertain.
These days, Luc has been taking good care of his chain mail while asking Robert and Ryan to patrol at night to strengthen vigilance.
Perhaps Old Ike was truly blessed by God, or perhaps he received sufficient food and hot water. His condition gradually improved, and he was able to walk after three days.
When he learned that Luc was going to attack the bandit's lair, Old Eike instantly wished that Luc would take him with him.
"Old Eike, I understand how you feel, but you'd better not go. You can't help much. Stay in the forest. I said that because of our previous friendship, I will give you a job. By the way, someone needs to look after the children in the forest. It's not safe for Mary to take care of two children alone." "No! Lord Luc. I must go with you!"
Old Eck had changed his way of addressing Luc. Regardless of Luc's purpose in suppressing the bandits, Old Eck was deeply grateful, and with respect for the nobles, he almost begged:
"Thank you for your kindness and for giving me, a fellow buried in the grave, a job. But sir, if I don't go and see with my own eyes how these bandits go to hell, I don't think I will live long."
Looking at old Eike's determined eyes, Luc finally nodded and agreed to the aging soldier.
Another day passed, and at dawn, Luke took Ryan, Old Eike, and Robert to say goodbye to Mary. Mary hugged her two children and watched with worry as the group disappeared into the southern mountains.
Luc was wearing chain mail, a pot helmet on his head, deerskin boots on his feet, a fine steel knight sword on his waist, a dagger tucked into his trouser leg, a short bow in his hand, two pots of arrows hung on his right side in an alternating pattern, one bag of bone arrows and one bag of quivers.
Ryan, wearing leather armor with a hole in the chest, held a rusty dagger in his left hand and followed closely with a leather round shield tied to his right arm.
Robert was dressed in linen, holding his axe tightly in both hands, and followed Ryan closely.
Old Ek was at the end, his clothes were the most worn, and his weapon was Luc's original mattock. In the few days before the trip, Luc asked Ryan to make a simple shield with wooden boards. It was called a shield, but in fact it was equivalent to a smaller version of a wooden door. It was carried on Old Ek's back and looked very sloppy.
Luc was very familiar with this forest. After all, he had walked there many times. He deliberately avoided the more dangerous sections and took some hidden mountain roads. In the evening, he arrived at the wild boar cave.
Under Luc's command, the four men lay tightly in the bushes at the foot of a mountain, staring down at the wild boar cave in the distance. There was no need to ask old Eike, because Luc already understood that this was indeed the bandits' lair!
I saw that the entrance of the dark cave was now filled with a pile of stones, leaving only the outermost layer of gap.
This is simply not something an animal can do.
The most important thing is that outside the cave entrance, there are several settlements made of wooden boards, with a bonfire slowly rising. A monkey-like man is sitting on the ground, holding a sickle. He is obviously the person on the outermost edge keeping watch.
Beside him, there is a row of fences.
"It's them!"
Old Ek came forward and looked at the man by the fire with gritted teeth. He immediately recognized that the man was one of the bandits who massacred Ward Village not long ago!
"Shh!"
Luc made a gesture of silence.
"Be patient, we'll go up again at midnight!"
After Luke finished speaking, he looked at the sky. Well, there was no sign of rain. It seemed that there would not be the scene of being disturbed by thunder when attacking Henry.
But compared to Henry, this battle is more difficult to fight
"We have to find a way to move those rocks away."
