Chapter 326 325 The Angel Descends
The magic was still his own, not out of control, but it seemed to have been affected by something and become restless.
Commander Doro knelt on one knee, gazing solemnly at the sky. He proclaimed, "The Kingdom of God, shrouded in mist! Humble believers have offered their bodies, their souls pointing the way—the guiding angels will descend!"
Taking this opportunity, Shunzi looked up at the sky.
As Commander Doro finished speaking, the magic circle in the sky finally closed.
At the very top of the magic circle, glowing lines converged to form a giant mist rune.
In Shunzi's gaze, a thick mist gradually rose from the center of the rune, churning as if boiling.
This situation did not last long. A few seconds later, the mist began to rotate and churn rhythmically, forming a huge vortex. As the rotation speed increased, the mist vortex also spread rapidly to the surroundings, completely obscuring the view overhead in the blink of an eye.
Clang—Clang—Clang—
The solemn tolling of the bells came from nowhere, and after three rings, a deep and mysterious passage opened up in the center of the swirling mist.
At the end of the passage, Shunzi saw an island floating in the sky. Before he could see the island clearly, a bright light shone from the depths of the passage, and figures shrouded in mist flew through the passage at great speed, heading this way.
Fearing that she would be discovered to have opened her eyes, Shunzi quickly closed them and continued to pretend to cultivate.
Before long, several excited shouts came from around me.
"Ha! The present world! I've waited too long for this day!"
"Praise be to the mist! What a realistic feel! I had almost forgotten what it felt like."
"Look at me! I can lift a greatsword with one hand—what a strong body!"
These voices sounded familiar; after all, they trained together every day, so Shunzi was no stranger to his colleagues' voices. However, what they were saying left Shunzi completely baffled.
Since someone spoke first, Shunzi thought she no longer needed to pretend, so she opened her eyes as well—to see what was going on.
The moment she opened her eyes, she was met with another pair of eyes.
Shunzi almost screamed in fright—the person in front of him was practically pressed against his face.
Upon closer inspection, Shunzi noticed something amiss.
Standing before me was an elderly man whose hair and beard had been shaved down to a thin stubble.
He was dressed in a simple gray robe, surrounded by wisps of mist, and more importantly—he was completely translucent.
The old man in the gray robe looked puzzled and reached out to touch Shunzi's forehead.
Shunzi instinctively backed away, and the gray-robed old man's expression immediately changed: "Who exactly are you?"
Shunzi was taken aback for a moment, then quickly replied, "I am a guard officer of the Divine Guard, under the command of Captain Carius."
"lie!"
The gray-robed elder shouted sternly, "You are not a believer in the Mist at all!"
The commotion finally attracted the attention of others, and those colleagues who were clearly familiar with Shunzi all turned to look.
"Ilse, why haven't you completed your descent yet? Are you dissatisfied with this physical body?"
Someone jokingly asked.
The gray-robed old man, known as Ils, pointed at Shunzi and sneered, "A spy has infiltrated here. The Divine Guard is truly getting worse with each generation; they can't believe they can make a mistake on such an important occasion."
"spy?"
Everyone's attention turned to Shunzi again.
With so many people watching, Shunzi's mind raced—descend? Offer up her body?
A sudden realization dawned on him, and an immense sense of fear enveloped him. "Gulp."
Shunzi swallowed a mouthful of saliva.
He suddenly sprang to his feet, scrambling to his feet, and ran off towards the distant woods.
Snapped.
A snap of fingers was heard, and a voice said, "Binding."
Shunzi felt a tightness in her ankle, and the next second her body was lifted into the air, suspended by chains that appeared out of nowhere, her limbs stretched into a "big" shape.
The person casting the spell seemed to be the leader. He stepped out from the crowd and said coldly, "Gentlemen, put aside your curiosity for now. Interrogating spies is not something we need to worry about. There are more important things waiting for us to do."
The angels fell silent, but Ilse was anxious: "Modra, have you forgotten me? What should I do?"
He looked up at the still-open vortex of mist above the forest: "I don't want to go back like this. I need a physical body too."
Modra paused for a moment, then turned to look at Commander Doro, who was kneeling on one knee.
As his gaze moved, all the angels turned their eyes toward Commander Doro.
Since the gates of God’s kingdom opened and the angels descended, Commander Doro has remained in this position without moving. However, upon hearing the word “spy,” his body trembled slightly, fearing that he would be questioned on the spot.
Now that he was being watched by all the angels, he knew he had to make a statement, so he lowered his head and said in a deep voice, "Holy One, please give me a little more time, and I will go and find you a new body immediately."
"No need."
Ilse's voice came from nearby: "Our time is precious."
Commander Doro looked up in astonishment and saw Ilse place his palm on the top of his head.
Driven by instinctive fear, Commander Doro's body trembled even more violently. He opened his eyes wide and cried out, "No! Wait! I am the Commander—I am not the vessel of descent!"
Despite his shouting, Commander Doro dared not put up any resistance.
With half of Ilse's arm already inside Commander Doro's head, he replied with a smile, "Very well, Commander, now, prove your piety to the mist—you should feel honored."
Commander Doro stopped speaking—not because he didn't want to, but because his eyes had rolled back and he was losing consciousness.
"Hurry up, Ilse."
Modra urged in a deep voice, "He is not a sinner. You don't need to torture his spirit like this. Give him a quick death."
His words had an effect; Ilse's form dissipated into mist, which then seeped into Commander Doro's seven orifices.
In a short while, Commander Doro's eyes regained their sparkle, and he stood up from his kneeling position, moving his hands and feet with considerable excitement.
"Hmm, the commander's physique is so strong. I feel like I could lift a mountain."
Modra poured cold water on the idea: "It's because you haven't fully adapted to this body that you have this arrogant misconception—Moving mountains? Even the most powerful cultivators at the Breakthrough Realm wouldn't dare to say such a thing."
Commander Doro—or rather, Ilse—smiled and raised his eyebrows: “It’s just an exaggeration, Modra. Don’t take it so seriously. We’re all old enough that no one will believe it.”
Modra stopped responding. He closed his eyes and sensed for a moment before turning to look in the direction of Sail City.
“I felt the call of the mist; my Lord is already there waiting for us.”
Then, Modra's gaze swept across the faces of the angels: "My friends, the Eastern Continent will eventually be shrouded in mist."
"Today marks the beginning of the fog descending. We will take the first step. This is our glory alone. Our deeds will be engraved on the holy monument of God's kingdom and remembered forever."
"And all of this began with stopping the storm."
