Chapter 235 New Year

After scolding Tsuna, Shizuka Miyamura wiped the water off her hands, took out her phone from her pocket, and dialed Daio Miyamura's number.

"What's wrong?"

The call was connected, and Miyamura Daio was the first to ask questions with suspicion.

"It's nothing, just a reminder that you shouldn't go too far when you're fishing, and remember to pick up Mom for dinner."

"Don't worry, just wait until I catch a big one and I'll treat you guys to something nice."

"Hi hi hi."

After confirming that he knew, Shizuka Miyamura gave a perfunctory reply and hung up the phone, then turned to tidy up the room.

It's just a matter of changing some blankets and pillows, since we did a thorough cleaning not long ago and there's no dust or anything like that.

Moreover, with Yaeko Nishimiya and Shoko in the kitchen, she felt at ease. As for that certain person, she chose to ignore him.

When she returned to the kitchen, Tsuna was gone, but Grandma Nishimiya was there. She nodded to her and greeted her before joining the kitchen team.

Tsuna, on the other hand, was "kicked out" by Shoko and was "playing" with Nishimiya Yuzuru and Hachiko in the living room.

As dusk spread across the horizon, the afternoon sun's shadow quietly faded into indigo.

The scent of sandalwood, like the lingering embers of incense, floats through the streets and alleys. Stone lanterns light up one after another along the shrine's approach, their warm yellow glow mingling with the winter mist, vying with the last rays of the setting sun in the dry landscape garden.

As people buried their faces in their wool scarves and exhaled white smoke, the entire city was already immersed in a light blue ink wash, with only neon signs spreading out like starlight spots on the glass curtain wall, like the still-wet ultramarine in a ukiyo-e print.

Miyamura Daio returned carrying a large fish, followed by 'Miyamura Yuu'.

Miyamura Yuu and Nishimiya Yaeko nodded to each other in greeting, then took out three envelopes of New Year's money from their pockets and handed them to Tsuna and the other two.

She had met the Nishinomiya family next door many times over the years and was already familiar with them. She also knew how difficult their lives were, if it weren't for the help of Nobita's family.

Later, Yuu Miyamura joined the kitchen team without hesitation and even kicked Shoko out, wanting her to play with Tsuna.

Cheers! x∞

After working for an hour or two, everyone sat around the dining table, clinking their glasses together. Looking at the delicious food on the table, everyone's appetite increased.

All the drinks they were drinking were oolong tea. Miyamura Daio didn't like drinking alcohol, so he drank the same as them.

The adults chatted about recent gossip and interesting stories, while the remaining three listened with great interest. A-Gang remarked that this was much more interesting than talking about their university days.

As the clock struck twelve, everyone wished each other a Happy New Year, and Tsuna handed Shoko a New Year's gift he had prepared beforehand.

This made Nishimiya Yuzuru quite envious, but soon he also took out a New Year's gift and handed it to Nishimiya Yuzuru, but the two New Year's gifts were completely incomparable in quality.

When Nishimiya Yuzuru received the gift, he proudly showed it off to Shoko.

Shoko, unable to bear it any longer, gave her a sharp rap on the head before she calmed down.

Similarly, Shoko didn't forget the gifts. She first went home to take out the gifts she had hidden, and then went back to the Miyamura house to hand them to the two of them.

The adults watching silently did not disturb them.

It wasn't until after midnight that Shizuka Miyamura and Yaeko Nishimiya tidied up the living room before going home, while Kei Nishimiya and Yuu Miyamura had already gone to bed.

The elderly person couldn't stay up that long; around 10 p.m., they couldn't hold on any longer and went back to sleep.

"That feels good." Shizuka Miyamura finished tidying up the living room and came out of the bathroom, the hairdryer in her hand still warm.

"Going to bed so early?"

Back in the master bedroom, she saw Miyamura Daio already lying on the bed with the blankets on, and couldn't help but give him a light kick in the butt as a test.

Once they realized he was truly asleep, they stopped saying anything and simply moved more quietly.

She was pleasantly surprised to find a gift box in the center of the bed when she lifted the covers. Before she could say anything, she heard Daio Miyamura's voice:
"How's it going? Are you surprised?"

"We're an old married couple, why are you doing this? Aren't you being mushy?" The uncontrollable smile on her face contrasted sharply with her words.

When Miyamura Daio saw that smile, he knew he had achieved the result he wanted. After chatting with her for a few minutes, he really prepared to close his eyes and go to sleep.

He didn't open his eyes until he heard the door lock and saw Shizuka Miyamura's faint smile...

--------

At five o'clock, the morning mist enveloped the streets and alleys like semi-solidified fat. The mechanical sound of the automatic doors of convenience stores opening and closing pierced the silence, echoing on the frosty asphalt.

An elderly man in a haori (a traditional Japanese garment) turned the corner in wooden clogs, his pocket watch chain swaying with each step, startling a stray cat huddled under a telephone pole.
"Tsuna, it's time to get up. Didn't we agree to watch the sunrise?"

"Get up!!"

Finally, unable to bear it any longer, Shoko decided to take matters into her own hands, and in the dead of winter, she had a brilliant way to wake up this hibernating pig.

She turned and ran to the bathroom to wet her hands, shook off the water, decisively lifted the blanket, found the right spot, and stuffed both hands directly into his stomach.

"what……"

Due to improper handling, Tsuna, who was struggling to sit up, ended up kissing her head, and she screamed in pain while covering her forehead.

"Wasn't this method of waking people up banned?" he said, rubbing his sleepy eyes and yawning speechlessly.

He was still feeling sleepy and had a lot of morning grumpiness, but he didn't dare to say anything to Shoko.

After all, we did agree to get up at five o'clock today to watch the sunrise together.

"I can't wake you up, can I?" Shoko said, rubbing her forehead, looking aggrieved.

"Does it still hurt?" Tsuna reached out to rub it for her, but she dodged him.

"It hurts." Shoko blinked and nodded. "But if you kiss me, I'll forgive you."

As she finished speaking, she pointed to her profile, and the image of her and Takagi going shopping yesterday morning and passing by a fortune-telling stall in the mall flashed through her mind.

"Shoku-chan, how about we go over and have our fortunes told for the next year?" Ayumi Ajitani pointed to a fortune-telling stall not far away and asked with a raised eyebrow.

Shoko and Takagi followed the direction of her finger and indeed saw a small stall, but it was nothing like the fortune-telling classroom they had seen at school last time; this one was extremely rudimentary.

Furthermore, the two had a very puzzling question in their minds: why would there be such a stall in the mall? Did the manager really allow it?
"It doesn't seem very reliable." Takagi Sana knew that fortune telling was just for psychological comfort.

However, she still subtly suggested that she didn't want the two of them to waste money, but of course, if the fortune telling was cheap, they could give it a try.

After all, seeking psychological comfort can make one feel good all day long.
