The King of Soft Rice in Chinese Entertainment

Chapter 551 Placeholder
Xu Jiuyang woke up amidst the lotus-like arms and legs, tidied himself up, and then indulged his lust for Kim Hee-sun and the others who had gotten up with him before heading to the film studio in South Korea.
The premise was that they would be doing parkour among the skyscrapers of Seoul, but it was impossible to film every scene like that. The application process and street closures involved a lot of complicated procedures. Xu Jiuyang wasn't Jackie Chan; he didn't have that much influence. He couldn't possibly bother Li Yunxin with everything, could he?
Although she certainly didn't think it was troublesome, if it happened too often... well, if the production crew could handle it, she'd let them handle it.
Moreover, when filming on location, it's often difficult to use a stunt double, and Xu Jiuyang is at least somewhat famous for his action scenes.
Often, stunt doubles are used to prevent the main character from getting injured. Otherwise, if the main character is delayed for a day, the production team will lose money for a day, and no one can afford to do that in the long run.
Of course, as long as it's not a particularly dangerous scene, he will still do it himself if he can. He hasn't stooped to the level of those young male celebrities who use stunt doubles for any scene that isn't a frontal shot.
This is also what someone claims is most different about them—after all, this is their only advantage, so they have to bring it up.
“Mr. Xu, when the time comes, you will start from here, move to this position, and then run…” Cui Dongxun, as always, dutifully instructed Xu Jiuyang on the scene.
He's been like this from the very beginning, never changing his attitude because of the rumors circulating within the crew. It's estimated that after this movie, with the support of his investors, he'll be able to put "The Thieves" and "Assassination" on the agenda.
Okay, The Thieves has become The Spin-Off, but Assassination can still be made. Jun Ji-hyun's wedding dress look in it is still quite good.
Xu Jiuyang had originally considered bringing "Assassination" to China, but after careful consideration, he decided against it because the main plot of "Assassination" was difficult or impossible to copy.
Although the story is about the patriots of Joseon trying to save the country in despair, the core plot actually revolves around the twin female protagonists. Without this twin design, many plot points would not be able to proceed.
The most typical example is that the female protagonist impersonates her sister and marries a Japanese officer because her father killed her younger sister, and then goes on a killing spree at the wedding.
In this story, the female protagonist and her sister are twins. Their family is composed of high-ranking North Korean officials. Their father became a collaborator with the Japanese after the Japanese occupation of Korea, while their mother opposed the Japanese. So when their mother was preparing to leave with her daughter, their father, fearing it would affect his position with the Japanese, killed his wife.
In the chaos, the older sister was taken away and grew up to become a sniper in a guerrilla organization dedicated to restoring the nation, while the younger sister stayed with her father and developed a naive and innocent personality.
After growing up, the older sister accepted a mission to return to China and assassinate a high-ranking Japanese official, but unexpectedly encountered her younger sister. Out of curiosity, the younger sister found out her address and followed her there.
At this time, the father also learned that his other daughter had become a member of the restoration organization. He immediately decided to kill her. After chasing after her, he didn't say a word and shot her dead.
Little did he know that after the older sister and younger sister met, the naive younger sister wanted to take her older sister home. When she found that her father had also come, she told her older sister to hide in the house so that she could talk to her father first. Unexpectedly, her father shot her through the throat as soon as they met.
This is one of the main storylines of "Assassination", so the question is, how should it be modified if it is adapted for the mainland?
The premise of this setting is that Korea was colonized by Japan for more than 20 years, which is why the female protagonist was able to grow up and join the guerrilla force of the restoration organization.
If we take this to China, starting from the September 18 Incident, it's only been 14 years at most. Even if we set the timeline forward a bit, with the twins already 5 years old when their mother ran away and was killed, and then push the story back to 44 years ago, they would only be 15 or 16 years old.
It's just embarrassing.
Actually, there are only two reasons to adapt "Assassination" for this film. First, the female lead is incredibly cool, beautiful, and powerful at the wedding. Second, the traitor's line, "I didn't expect liberation either. If I had known, I wouldn't have done it," is comparable to lines like "The Japanese are all beasts" and "What if they had lost?"
Forget about the former. Although it's not a problem to forcibly change it to China, Jun Ji-hyun is, after all, his own possession, and she takes good care of him. There's no need to take her away. He still wants to play a wedding dress play or an Ahn Ok-yoon failure play, or an Ahn Ok-yoon wedding dress failure play.
Anyway, with him around, she definitely won't take on that idiotic project, "Storm Circle," in the future. As for the latter, that's even simpler; just write an original anti-Japanese war film script and add it at the end.
"Could we add it after 'The Message'?" Xu Jiuyang pondered during a break from filming, then shook his head.
Under his guidance, Yuan Yuan's novel "The Message" was written according to the movie plot, so there was basically no opportunity for it to be inserted.
But it's okay. I've talked to Fan Bingbing before. She's going to invest in several anti-Japanese war films in the next two years, so there will definitely be opportunities.
Although Lu Taro was killed, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' ambition to cause trouble will not stop, so it is necessary to secure a position in advance. The scope of "The Message" is still too small, so it would be better to release "Nanjing Photo Studio" in advance.
This story was actually filmed before, in the 87 film "The Bloodstained City". At that time, mainland filmmakers hadn't yet become so bad, and they made a decent film.
But it's just so-so. Some movies can still be appreciated decades later, while others are forgotten after five or six years.
From this perspective, "Nanjing Photo Studio" is still very significant. Its cool and restrained camerawork and colors are very suitable for viewers who are bombarded with information.
"Yanza, remember to remind me when we get back." After writing the keywords in his notebook, Xu Jiuyang handed it to Zhang Yan.
"I know..." Zhang Yan replied irritably, she had given up on correcting that awful way of addressing her.
"Hey, don't look so sad, smile!" Xu Jiuyang teased her. "We're going to film your favorite drama, 'Autumn in My Heart,' soon. Aren't you excited?"
"What am I looking forward to? That was so many years ago," Zhang Yan said irritably. "Besides, this isn't 'Autumn in My Heart,' it's just borrowing the names of two characters."
“Why not?” Xu Jiuyang said seriously. “The actor is the same, and the character’s name is the same, so isn’t it ‘Autumn in My Heart’? You can’t say that an animal looks like a duck and makes a duck’s quack, but it’s not a duck, can you?”
"Hehe..." Zhang Yan rolled her eyes.
"Judging from your expression, do you think the plot of Yoon Eun-hee's misdiagnosis is bad, and that I should barge in when they're confessing their love in the hospital bed?" Xu Jiuyang asked again with a grin.
As mentioned before, Kim Hee-sun and Song Hye-kyo both made cameo appearances, and they were playing their own breakout roles.
Then, the three staples of Korean dramas in the millennium—car accidents, amnesia, and incurable diseases—were very popular in East Asia and even Southeast Asia. The representative examples are the trilogy of "Autumn in My Heart," "Winter Sonata," and "Stairway to Heaven."
First, it's incurable; second, it's a combination of car accident and amnesia; and third, it's all of them.
Then, "Autumn in My Heart" is Song Hye-kyo's representative work, while "Winter Sonata" and "Stairway to Heaven" are played by Choi Ji-woo.
Therefore, the highlights of the cameo appearances all came from them.
