Chapter 667 The Lawyer Finally Becomes a Private Investigator
Three days later, Fang Qingye was still at work at the bank when she received a WeChat message from Xia He. She had found out the identity of the Japanese woman's husband: Kenjiro Kishida, deputy head of the inventory management section of Mitsui & Co.'s metals division, based in New York, responsible for coordinating with Mitsui & Co.'s warehouses and logistics providers registered with the LME in the United States.
"This is something my client revealed to me when I asked her to do a beauty treatment," Xia He explained in WeChat.
"Thank you for your hard work, Xia He. Contact Smith immediately; I'm going to have him handle this." Fang Qingye typed out her detailed plan to Xia He.
"Okay, I'll contact you tomorrow."
Smith has been quite relaxed lately.
Not recently, but ever since I joined Topway Technology's New York office, I've had a very relaxed schedule.
At the end of last year, he accepted Fang Qingye's invitation to resign from his job at SATA International Law Firm and become the chief lawyer at Topway Technology's New York office, where he was responsible for legal advice and any potential litigation.
But after working for more than half a year, there hasn't been a single lawsuit!
Simple legal advice is child's play for him.
Life returned to what it was like at SATA International Law Firm, except the salary was much higher.
This morning, as soon as Smith arrived at work, he sat in his office, made himself a cup of coffee, and did nothing. It was so frustrating to have nothing to do all day.
Just then, his phone rang. He took it out and saw that it was a local, unknown number. After thinking for a moment, he pressed the answer button.
A woman's sweet voice quickly came through the microphone: "Is this Mr. Smith? I'm Xia He."
Summer lotus?!
Smith suddenly remembered that last year he had represented the big boss in a traffic accident case, and his client was Xia He.
She's the big boss's mistress in America!
Thinking of this, he immediately said in a respectful tone, "Hello, Ms. Xia, I am Smith."
"Do you have time now? Could you please come out? I need to talk to you about something. I'm in the coffee shop across from your office."
Smith quickly stood up and walked to the window to look down. His office was on the fourth floor, so he couldn't see what was happening inside the coffee shop, but he saw two burly men wearing sunglasses and black suits loitering at the entrance of the coffee shop.
As a lawyer with extensive experience in dealing with people, Smith immediately recognized him as someone's bodyguard!
He quickly replied, "Okay, I'll be right down."
Smith quickly put on his suit, straightened his tie, grabbed his essential briefcase, and hurried downstairs to the coffee shop across the street.
Just as he was about to enter, he was stopped by one of the burly men in a black suit, who politely asked, "Are you Attorney Smith?"
"Yes."
“I’m sorry, Attorney Smith, we need to conduct a routine check on you before you can see Ms. Xia.”
Smith hesitated for a moment, but still handed his briefcase to the other person.
Soon another burly man in a black suit took the briefcase, opened it, and carefully inspected it, while another man began a simple body search.
After everything was over, one of the burly men said, "Attorney Smith, please come with me."
Smith, carrying his briefcase, followed the burly man into the coffee shop and was led into a private room. Inside, a beautiful Eastern woman was leisurely sipping her coffee; it was Xia He.
"Attorney Smith, I'm sorry to disturb you at work. Please have a seat and what would you like to drink?" Xia He smiled, her tone revealing a reserved nature.
"Thank you, a latte, please." Smith sat across from her, feeling a little uneasy. He wondered what she wanted to talk to him about all of a sudden.
Also, does the big boss, Fang Qingye, know about this?
Soon, the waiter brought over a cup of coffee. Xia He waited until the waiter closed the door before saying to Smith, "Mr. Smith, I invited you here today because Mr. Fang asked me to do something for you." "Let Mr. Fang tell you personally."
Xia He took out her phone and quickly dialed Fang Qingye's number. She whispered a few words and then handed it to Smith, who was sitting opposite her.
Smith quickly took it and said respectfully, "Hello, boss."
"Okay, Mr. Smith, are you satisfied with your work at the office?" Fang Qingye's voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Satisfied, quite satisfied!"
"Hehe, are you a bit free? Then do something for me: investigate someone."
Another investigator?!
Boss, I'm a lawyer, not a detective.
However, he now understands that with Fang Qingye's current financial resources, if she really wanted to hire a lawyer, she would definitely hire an excellent lawyer in New York. How could she possibly hire someone as mediocre as him?
What he values in himself is his rich social experience and understanding of human relationships.
Last time they investigated that unfortunate Felix, I wonder who they'll investigate this time?
"Boss, tell me, who are you investigating? What's the specific matter?" Smith asked cautiously.
"Kishida Kenjiro, Deputy Section Chief of the New York Warehouse Management Section, Mitsui & Co. Metals Division," Fang Qingye briefly explained the situation over the phone.
"What? You're going to pay a hefty sum to bribe them for information? Boss, that's illegal!" Smith blurted out involuntarily.
"Illegal? Then let me ask you, isn't it illegal for Mitsui & Co. to deliberately fabricate false inventory data?! And isn't it illegal for Felix of Iwate Agriculture to give himself a false assessment and bribe judges and juries to get him acquitted?!"
"But...but..." Smith murmured, unable to utter a word.
“Smith, I admit that this method is illegal, but our goal is to expose Mitsui & Co.’s illegal act of deliberately creating false inventory data and to make it public! So that countless investors will not be deceived again! Our goal is justice!”
"Don't talk about something so noble. Your real purpose is probably to trade copper futures and use that to hurt your competitors, right?" Smith muttered to himself.
Although Fang Qingye didn't say what he was going to do, how could he, with his extensive experience, not guess?
The boss is a futures trader!
Of course, he wouldn't dare say these things aloud.
“Smith, I’ll reward you with a million dollars if you succeed,” Fang Qingye said slowly.
100? !
Smith was instantly smitten.
With this million dollars, plus my savings over the years, I could buy a two-bedroom, two-bathroom high-rise apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan! It's within walking distance of Times Square and Central Park.
This is what he and his wife have always dreamed of.
"Okay, I agree!"
Smith gritted his teeth.
Fortune favors the bold; let law and conscience go to God!
"OK, go to the office now and resign. It's best to cause some minor friction so they fire you, then investigate this matter. Remember, report the results only to me."
"Ok."
Smith's voice trembled slightly; he felt himself beginning to fall into endless darkness.
