What the hell is a private enterprise?
Chapter 207 Straight Flight
Chapter 207 Straight Flight
The story begins when Tang Wen remembered that he still held the position of vice principal.
Vice-principal, or honorary title? The emphasis is definitely on the latter.
It means that you can donate some money every year, get a few photos together, and show off your close relationship.
Of course, the North Sea Fleet might have had the intention of sending Tang Wen a training ship as a side project when they did this.
The latter went to find out from Lao Zhang, who had already gone abroad, and learned that the Naval Academy was now extremely poor.
Forget about buying training ships, we couldn't even afford to use one for free; we couldn't even afford the maintenance costs.
Donating a training ship is nothing to Tang Wen; it might just cause them trouble.
After contacting the student, the other party was obviously aware of Tang Wen's extraordinary abilities, and the communication went smoothly.
After some subtle probing, Tang Wen finally proposed providing targeted internship positions.
This program provides internship opportunities for second-year and above students at the Naval Academy, including positions for seafarers and a portion of subsidies. The internships are initially set for third-year students during winter and summer vacations, while fourth-year students can intern year-round.
It did not affect the normal conduct of teaching, solved the manpower shortage in Gaijin, and also helped students accumulate a lot of naval knowledge before graduation.
The first batch of trainees happened to be during the winter break in January. Tang Wen said that during the winter break, he could provide one heavy cruiser and one unmodified old aircraft carrier, namely the Algeria under construction, and the CV-2 Lexington, which could accommodate 3000 trainees without any problem.
The college readily agreed over the phone, saying that there was no need for a stipend or allowance, just meals would be provided, and the college was even willing to subsidize part of the cost.
The first batch of winter break interns should number around 150 to 200. The college's main leaders and teachers are already on their way to Echeng to discuss the details with Tang Wen.
Yan Jian was stunned for a moment after hearing this, then slapped his thigh, startling Tang Wen:
"You should have told me sooner! We have a naval academy here too!"
The Guangcheng Naval Command Academy is full of talented people!
Tang Wen thought about the name for a while, but couldn't recall it until Yan Jian gave him the address, at which point he finally remembered it:
Guangcheng Naval Academy was established in the late 70s and was abolished and converted into a Marine Corps school after the turn of the century. He visited it when he went on a trip.
However, the Guangcheng Naval Command Academy was a continuing education program, and Tang Wen dared not accept it.
Yan Jian then realized that, according to the current rules, the Darian Naval Academy is a university, which is different in nature from Guangcheng Academy, which trains existing commanders. Therefore, the latter is not appropriate for the college.
The two continued watching the trainees on the track and chatting, when Yan Jian's phone rang.
Halfway through the call, his expression became quite surreal, and he tilted his head to look at Tang Wen:
"You used torpedoes to bomb the port?"
Tang Wen nodded.
How many?
"We brought four hundred with us when we went to sea, but we replenished some through other channels later."
"How much are some?"
"In short, it's a little more than four hundred."
Tang Wen and Yan Jian struggled repeatedly, which only made Yan Jian more anxious.
"When the Shenjiang passed by Lile Beach, we saw that your ships were still being bombed. It's been three days! How could four hundred torpedoes have been fired for so long?"
As soon as the Jinjiang turned on its sonar, the underwater surface was filled with metallic echoes!
Taking advantage of the brief lull in the South China Sea's power dynamics and the absence of troublemakers, the 404 ship relentlessly launched torpedoes.
In less than three days and 50 hours, that's roughly 30,000 torpedoes?
The shipyard's modified torpedo, with its reduced range, weighs just over 2 tons, including 1 ton of explosives and several hundred kilograms of fuel.
But even if each torpedo leaves 100 kilograms of metal debris after exploding, that's still more than 3,000 tons of metal.
Tang Wen's eyes lit up as he figured it out, as if he had discovered something extraordinary.
Yan Jian, however, was filled with questions. He had just received news from both sides:
The 051 Shenjiang not only discovered numerous echoes of metal fragments on the seabed, but also found that in less than three days, a concave harbor had been blasted out of Gongzhen Reef in Lile Shoal, with silt spreading out from the explosions for several kilometers around, turning the area almost entirely yellow. Such a massive undertaking must have required at least a thousand tons of explosives.
Tang Wen's initial request to use a small amount of explosives was made with the permission of the Goose City base and the recommendation and operation of Yan Jian himself.
But he didn't know that "a small amount" meant so much!
The second message came from the Qiongzhou Maritime Bureau, reporting an astonishing number of torpedoes, which was basically consistent with what the Shenjiang ship had seen.
Tens of thousands of torpedoes, even if Tang Wen sent them by ship from Southeast Asia, would still be super mobile bombs, comparable to atomic bombs once they exploded.
If they can send 10,000 torpedoes to the Spratly Islands today, they might be able to send an aircraft carrier to the coastal waters tomorrow!
The latter seems to have actually done it.
Yan Jian calmed down and shook Tang Wen's shoulders vigorously:
"More than ten thousand torpedoes! Aren't you afraid they'll be blown to smithereens if you bring them over?"
Tang Wen shook his head and replied, "So even the 404 ship is equipped with automatic torpedo launchers. Those things are really heavy and take up the entire displacement of the torpedoes."
"So many torpedoes, even the simplest straight-running type, ten thousand of them would cost over a billion!"
"It's worth it for the oil field, even if it costs 10 billion!"
Tang Wen said with a look of longing:
"Once the oil well is drilled, nothing else matters!"
Yan Jian gave a thumbs up, speechless.
A massive number of torpedoes are like mobile bombs, even more terrifying than battleships. If they explode, fishing boats within a ten-kilometer radius could be capsized.
That was a damn massive amount of weaponry, several times the size of the navy's stockpile. The US only produced 5 to 7 torpedoes during the entire Second World War!
He strongly suspected that this Southeast Asian organization had probably copied the armories left behind by Japan, the United States, Britain, and other countries during their colonial periods in Southeast Asia; otherwise, it would have gone bankrupt if it had only produced so much on its own.
Tang Wen neither confirmed nor denied this. In any case, with the 404 ship having its fill of work, the Gongzhen Deep-Water Port, the largest and most difficult project, had been completed.
The remaining surface area can be easily concealed; it only requires a thousand silver coins, and the gold-plated outpost in the Spratly Islands can be established.
Gongzhen Port is located in a remote area, making it particularly suitable for ships to remain undetected.
I haven't opened any of the 10 Super Boxes or the 1 Mysterious Christmas Supply Box yet.
Both men had their own thoughts, but Yan Jian couldn't sit still any longer and grabbed Tang Wen, asking:
"I'm going to check on the situation in the Spratly Islands right away, don't get me killed!"
Tang Wen: "Do you want to take a plane? You can take a seaplane directly there; it only takes three or four hours."
He has not yet made a public appearance in the Spratly Islands, but he has secretly visited them several times using warships.
Yan Jian wanted to say something but couldn't get the words out. He sighed and then held out his hand:
"I need to borrow a satellite phone; I really can't get there without it."
after an hour.
Two genuine retired pilots each flew a Zero naval reconnaissance aircraft; one carried a manned aircraft, while the other provided escort.
They took off from Da Wan Port with a full tank of fuel and were expected to arrive in Nansha in 3 hours.
