Chapter 136 The Butcher of the Empire
Chapter 136 The Butcher of the Empire
These words really provoked the deputy platoon leader, who almost immediately drew his sidearm and pressed the muzzle against the Farran man's head.
"Come on! Kill me if you dare! Hahahaha!"
The captured Lieutenant Farran looked deranged, but Raine didn't give the deputy platoon leader a chance to pull the trigger.
"Vans, put the gun away."
Renn silently lit a cigarette and gave the order.
But the deputy platoon leader did not immediately obey the order.
He glanced at Rennes, then at the prisoner, not understanding why Rennes would give this damned Frenchman a break.
Just as he was still hesitating about whether to put the gun away, Brinkman, who had been in the car, seemed to have recovered and ran over to the side, gently pushing the gun out of Vance's hand.
But this scene also made the Farlan man laugh out loud.
He couldn't speak Imperial, but he could understand it and knew what Rein had just said to Vance.
This made him look at Vance with smug satisfaction: "A piece of trash, he doesn't even dare to kill me. Is this all your empire is capable of?"
Renn and Brinkman each glanced at the guy, but didn't pay him much attention.
Brinkman turned and called over a few soldiers, instructing them to take Vance to the command vehicle to rest, and then sent the soldiers (except for the older woman who had knocked out the Frenchman's teeth) to dispose of the body.
Once everything was complete, Renn turned to Brinkman: "Get ready, we'll send an honorary communication to Königsberg later."
"Won't we be exposed?" Brinkman looked at Lieutenant Farland, his tone tinged with worry.
Renn rolled his eyes at her: "When I made over thirty honor communications to curse that idiot Churchill last time, I wasn't worried about being exposed, so what are you afraid of?"
After saying that, he added, "What we want is for those imperial idiots to know we're here!"
But his words immediately caught the attention of the French soldier: "You're the butcher of that empire!?"
"What butcher?"
Renn was stunned; he never imagined anyone would address him like that.
Brinkman immediately explained, "Don't you know the code name the Farran Army gave you?"
“We wiped out half of their company on the day the war started, and then we wiped out three of their regiments at Belfort, so Farland has been calling you the Butcher ever since.”
Ryan immediately flew into a rage: "Damn it, this is a complete frame-up! Who came up with this code name! I'll kill their whole family!"
Brinkman swallowed the words that were about to come out of her throat. She looked at Renn, then at the French prisoners who were terrified by Renn's words, her expression complicated.
Raine immediately realized the problem with his words. He quickly spat several times and looked at the Farran man: "I misspoke. Don't worry, I won't kill his whole family."
Clearly, the other party wouldn't believe what Ryan said, but the fierce look on his face had disappeared, and now all that could be seen was astonishment.
Brinkman glanced at Renn, decided not to get involved, and instead led Shadrin toward the convoy.
Before long, a bright red beam of honor communication light shot up from the ground.
The soldiers scattered around also stopped what they were doing and returned to their vehicles.
A little while later, Hammer, guided by Honor Communications, successfully located the scouts who were still hiding in the woods and brought them back to the unit.
Meanwhile, a beam of honor communication appeared in Königsberg.
A month ago, Raine learned to read the contents of honor communications by using patterns and rotation speed, so he immediately deciphered the contents: "The 30th Infantry Regiment... is heading to provide support."
"The speed is quite fast."
The Ninth Army was previously responsible for protecting Insterburg, but it was transferred to the rear for rest and reorganization after the Eighth Army arrived.
However, Raine had little hope for their fighting ability.
Because the Ninth Army only had a small number of regular troops, and the rest were all reserve militia and the like, they were not only poorly trained, but also poorly equipped.
But dealing with a cavalry division wouldn't be a problem. Besides, they can move by rail, so there shouldn't be any issues.
Their gaze fell upon the supply station, which had been reduced to a sea of fire.
Whether to abandon this place or continue forward in order to try and reunite with the eighth installment in Insterburg, that is the question that Renne needs to consider right now.
After finishing his work, Hammer parked his car on the side of the road, shone the headlights on Ryan, and then ran over to him excitedly.
"Colonel."
Hammer said, "The people have been found. One has a fracture, one has a penetrating wound, and the rest are fine."
"What about the cavalrymen who got away?" Renn glanced at him. "I remember Schultz saying that a group of cavalrymen were chasing them."
Hammer quickly waved his hand: "Oh, don't mention it. We didn't find it, but they should have seen our honor communications."
Ryan immediately frowned: "That's troublesome."
"What do you mean?" Hammer didn't understand what Raine meant.
Renn: "Four cavalrymen aren't a big problem, but they're behind us, and who knows what kind of trouble they might cause."
Hammer: "Then I should assign two squads to guard this place?"
Raine glanced at him, said nothing, and just kept thinking.
The assault company currently has over two hundred usable personnel. While keeping two squads isn't a problem, vehicle maintenance cannot be guaranteed. Moreover, the assault company currently operates with a squad + truck configuration, so keeping two squads means abandoning two trucks, which is clearly inappropriate.
“Let’s forget about it,” Ryan shook his head. “We’ll collect some gasoline and burn down the surrounding buildings. Anyway, no other transport teams will be using this road this month, so leaving it like this won’t be a problem.”
"Yes!"
Hammer immediately turned and left.
Raine watched as he was swallowed by darkness before looking at the Farlan man kneeling beside him.
"What?"
Lieutenant Farland looked at Ryan, no longer displaying the arrogance he had shown when facing the deputy platoon leader.
Ryan held his half-smoked cigarette butt, exhaled a long trail of smoke, and then said, "It's nothing, I just wanted to ask if you know anything else."
"Give up!"
The Farran was incredibly stubborn: "I would never betray my own people!"
"But they don't seem to consider you one of their own."
Rein recalled Shadrin's reaction when he first saw this Farlan man and found it amusing: "A coward who shoots his own people in the back, dares to say he wouldn't betray his own people?"
After saying that, Renn shoved the half-smoked cigarette into the Farran man's mouth and patted his head like a ball.
This, in turn, confused the Farran.
But he doesn't need to understand.
Because he saw Ryan pull out his sidearm.
This immediately made him cry out in alarm: "You can't kill me! I'm a prisoner! I'm protected by the treaty!!!"
But this immediately reminded Renn.
He immediately summoned Shadrin, handed him his sidearm, and without saying much, returned to his command vehicle.
He was muttering to himself.
"Damn it, that beast who gets shot by his own people is called a butcher."
"It seems we still haven't killed enough."
