Chapter 344 - A Clue Needed

"This is the best room we have here. You can stay as long as you like!"

Wu Chen received his reward.

This is indeed a very good gain.

The room that came into view was elegant and luxurious, befitting the title of "best." A wide variety of snacks and fruits were also plentiful. As he inspected his new lodgings and put down his luggage, the tavern owner, now reunited with his beloved daughter, naturally enacted a classic scene of father-daughter affection.

Yeah.

Wu Chen climbed to the very top of the tavern, surveying the colossal city known as Lysas from above—its structure was rather simple: an outer city enclosing an inner city. To legitimately enter the inner city, one needed a pass.

That wasn't difficult at all. Wu Chen was carrying the head of the bandit leader, Reinhard—making the most of this high-reward dead man as a stepping stone. And Wu Chen happened to have considerable experience in this area.

— Wind helmet.

Memories flooded his mind, only to be silently suppressed. From the moment he entered the outer city of Lisas until now, he had not encountered anything unexpected—no suddenly appearing projections, no strangely familiar faces, no sense of crisis or being spied on, and no sudden accidents.

Everything was ordinary.

The city, called Lysas, was exactly the same as the standard fantasy city in his mind. And in some casual conversations he overheard while entering the outer city, some information that needed to be verified was appropriately presented to his senses.

This year is indeed Lp0001, the year when Demon King Guy was replaced by Demon King Miki (Little Prience), and the entire story unfolds. The order of this land is indeed as depicted in the game: humans and monsters live on opposite sides of the continent, occasionally interfering with each other, and the human side is divided into four kingdoms that match the original work.

Herman in the north, Seth in the south. Lisas in the east, and further east, overseas, Japen. And beyond these, there are forests and deserts in the central part of the continent, and the Free City Alliance occupying the southeastern corner.

The structure is very simple, and the various kingdoms perfectly match the inherent elements of their respective fantasy kingdoms. The dominant religion in the human kingdoms remains the AL religion, governed by the first-level god A·L·I·C·E. And indeed, of the King and Queen of Lysas, only a young princess named Lya remains alive.

Everything that could be understood by ordinary people followed the game's established rules perfectly. Except for the major event of Lance becoming a woman, which hadn't yet had a butterfly effect, Wu Chen found nothing that interfered with the flow of history. Yet, just a short time ago, he had encountered a thousand-year-old projection from another world in the underground cave and fought a battle that wasn't exactly easy!

Change should happen.

Change should happen on a large scale and with great depth.

But now... why?
"Where exactly does the problem lie...?"

Wu Chen frowned, leaning on the rooftop railing as his gaze casually swept across the street. The next moment, two unexpected yet perfectly logical figures came into view.

Adventure Level 3 came in handy. A valuable clue caught his eye.

"Is it them?" He saw Lance and Shiru.

..............................

"You idiot, Shiru! Look carefully for me! She might be nearby. If we don't find her, it's all your fault!"

Miss Lance, hands on her hips, instructed her mage slaves to search the streets meticulously. After arriving in Lisas City and finally finding a place to stay, she discovered her commission materials had vanished. Aside from remembering that the girl she needed to find was named Xiaoguang, she couldn't even recall what the girl looked like!

How can this be!

How can you possibly find someone if you can't even remember what they look like? Are you suggesting I prepare a giant megaphone and walk around the streets shouting, "Does anyone know Hikari M. Brown? I've been asked by her family to find her!"

No normal person would do that! How embarrassing would that be?
However, Miss Lance was no ordinary person, so she actually prepared a megaphone and shouted her proclamation all over the streets. After disturbing the peace for a full half hour, the city guards, unable to bear it any longer, finally took drastic measures, fining them a large sum of money and confiscating the megaphone they had bought.

So the young lady ran out of money.

The penniless young lady had no choice but to team up with her fellow workers to search for the commission document, which heaven knows has fallen into some corner or crevice.

"Ugh, no, Miss Lance," Hilu, who had been working tirelessly, protested in a low voice, panting, "We won't be able to find it like this, this place is so big. Besides, that photo might have fallen outside of Lisas City... Ugh!" She was hit on the head again.

"Stop talking nonsense, you idiot Shiru. If you can't find it, you won't get lunch!"

"Waaah... How could this happen..."

Hilu covered her head, looking aggrieved, and continued searching for photos along the road. Meanwhile, Miss Lance, who had been supervising Hilu's work, tightened her belt even more.

She hadn't even eaten breakfast—because she'd rolled down the mountain where the campsite was located while preparing to eat. And now, her stomach was rumbling.

"Idiot Sil, hurry up..." she couldn't help but complain in a voice even softer than Sil's. "If this keeps up, I'll have no choice but to sell the sword to tide me over..."

Then...

"Eek!" She heard Hilu scream.

"Did you find it?" Miss Lance suddenly looked up. The surprise that appeared in her eyes turned into disappointment in an instant.

It's not a photo.

It's a monster.

The crowd on the street had vanished without a trace. And then, several tall, fierce-looking men with dark skin, wearing 'New York' jackets, appeared at the edge of their field of vision, wielding huge clubs.

"It's an American! Isn't this Lessas?! How come there are Americans here?"

"Americans," a common monster on this land. Nobody knows what 'America' is, or what 'New York' is. But like many strange things on the continent, everyone who sees them immediately recognizes them as monsters, and their scientific name is 'Americans'.

They excel at high-speed assaults and physical combat.

And now, they are making all sorts of strange noises, rushing towards the direction where the two are!

"Young lady! I'll cover you, quick...run!" Hilu stood in front of her, panting, but still trying her best to cast an attack spell.

Miss Lance gritted her teeth, trying her best to squeeze out some more strength from her arm that was gripping the longsword.

"Don't underestimate me, you idiot Shiru. How could I possibly... eh?"

She saw a sudden burst of bright, blazing fire.

It's magic.

A more advanced magic than the Flame Arrow that Sil uses is called Fire Blast.

The sudden burst of fire from the monster horde engulfed the Americans' bodies in an instant.

Are we saved...?

Miss Lance thought to herself, but a chill ran through her as a strange premonition suddenly surfaced in her mind.

—It's...it feels like someone of the same type!

Run!
Without further hesitation, she mustered all her strength, pulled up Hil, who looked relieved, and turned to run as fast as she could.
