Chapter 254 Heroes Cannot Desert in the Face of Battle

Chapter 254: A Hero Cannot Desert in the Face of Battle

He didn't say those things without reason.

Because he knew the secret, knew that Castor, who had built a fortress in the Badlands and maintained it for decades, had made a deal with some dark force—something he hadn't known before, but now he knew it was the White Walkers. And he deliberately revealed the cause of Castor's death, hoping to probe something from Witchdust.

He failed; he didn't find out anything.

Wu Chen was an unexpected intruder and a stranger to him, and he couldn't discern anything about Wu Chen.

So he chose to give up. He even tried to provoke Wu Chen's hostility—no matter what Wu Chen's background was, as long as he didn't discover the truth and didn't have the ability to cross the Great Wall of Despair, then whatever happened north of the Great Wall wouldn't affect the area south of the Great Wall.

The Night's Watch's oath will thus be fulfilled.

But now, it all means nothing.

“Be loyal to your duty.” Wu Chen looked at him and nodded.

"Loyal to the people." Wu Chen's gaze swept over the king of the borderlands and his guards.

But then he asked a question that surprised everyone.

How far are we from the Wall of Despair?

“At least a day’s journey,” the King of the Frontier replied hastily. “I know a shortcut. Take my men with you, and I’ll tell you how to get there as quickly as possible.”

"How far are your people from here?" Wu Chen asked again.

“One hour,” he said with certainty. “Just one… no, half an hour, and I can get you to that valley. We have a thousand men there.”

A thousand people.

Compared to the barbarian army in the original timeline, their numbers were pitifully small.

"Let them come here," Wu Chen ordered.

"This……"

"Can't do it?"

"I can send someone to deliver a message..."

Wu Chen nodded, then ignored the Night Watch Commander and the King of the Frontier. He simply walked straight out of the second-floor hall, as if the living beings around him were nothing but air.

He reached the lower level.

He saw some bound Night's Watch warriors working together to untie themselves, and wounded barbarian guards lying on the ground. He saw many young women huddled together, trembling. And it was clear that their identities and activities were ultimately meaningless.

There was only one person Wu Chen cared about—and that person was emerging from the basement, carrying a bundle of clothes and several weapons. Clearly, these were the remnants of someone's death, and that dead person had once ruled this place.

Castor's relics are in Hera's possession.

Wu Chen's gaze met Hera's eyes.

"How much time do we have left?" he asked.

"About two hours," she replied.

This timeframe refers to the undead army's marching speed. That massive undead force will soon arrive here and wipe out all life. And it's obvious that, apart from Wu Chen and Hera, the survivors remaining in this bad land have virtually no chance of escaping.

They can't run; they don't have that much stamina.

Unless they use the thousand barbarians in the valley as bait, they are destined to die swiftly and silently under the undead march. "Is there any hope?" he asked.

"What do you think?" she replied.

“I think so,” Wu Chen sighed. “Just now, I felt I had improved somewhat. If it were just a one-on-one fight, or one against two or three, I’m confident I could handle multiple White Walkers relatively easily.”

“But that’s not enough.” Herra stretched out her hand and casually waved it across the table. Several nuts spun around on the table because of her fingers, quickly tracing a strange trajectory.

"The first wave of the undead army will number around ten thousand, with more than twenty of them being White Walkers. The two of us alone cannot handle this horde of monsters. After all, there is an evil aura lurking behind them."

“Is it possible to lure them away?” Wu Chen turned his head. He heard the sound of horses—the warhorses ridden by the Night's Watch rangers on their northward expedition, and they seemed to have plenty of energy. “I can try to distract them; perhaps that will buy me some time.”

"Do you want to die, Duster?"

"Not negotiable?"

“You are doomed.” Hera’s gaze swept over him, letting out a helpless sigh. “We should have already reached a consensus—the power behind that undead army is not to be underestimated. Choosing to confront them here practically guarantees zero chance of victory. Unless…”

"Unless what?"

"Unless the person trying to seduce you is not you."

That's as good as saying nothing at all.

But what she said was naturally heard by other onlookers.

Although she and Wu Chen both appeared mysterious, no one could deny their advantages and existing strength. With such a straightforward description, everyone present basically understood the information they were conveying.

An evil force is marching south—it is about to reach this place. All people will perish under its impact, and its advance will not cease.

That was no lie; it was a destiny about to become reality—everyone was convinced of this the instant they heard it. And once the delirious, gray-black torrent appeared before their eyes, it too was revealed.

A terrifying future gripped everyone's heart.

Aside from Wu Chen, no one noticed that every word Hera uttered carried a strange, suggestive rhythm in its pronunciation. Among the Night's Watch members who had already escaped, some of the younger ones soon murmured as if they wanted to say something, to speak up and stand up. However, before they could, Wu Chen spoke first, interrupting her suggestive pronouncements.

“I’m going to give it a try,” Wu Chen said, noticing that everyone was watching him.

"Try your 'luring the tiger away from the mountain' tactic?" His companion looked at him, a hint of a smile appearing deep in his eyes.

Wu Chen understood the meaning behind that smile.

He even understood her voice and the unspoken meaning she had left unsaid earlier.

She pointed him out a path, a route to his goal. But true heroes and warriors are those who make their own decisions and take the lead!

Some things can only be said by him.

There are some things that only she can do herself.

and so……

“I will try to stop that undead army here,” he said, sensing the wind flowing between his fingers.

The immense will he sensed descending upon the undead army was still unmatched, but now, he felt a surge of eager anticipation.

"I have made my decision."
