Dragon Tribulation of All Realms
Chapter 249 The Backstab of Justice
Chapter 249 The Backstab of Justice
"...There aren't many people on the Wall; the total number of Night's Watch members wouldn't exceed a thousand." Wu Chen withdrew his gaze, recalling images of his past. "But the Wall is imbued with magic; neither wights, nor White Walkers, nor even dragons can cross this barrier."
That's what it says.
But such a massive army of ghouls was clearly not meant to be a military parade for sightseeing at the foot of the Great Wall.
“But barriers can always be crossed.” Hera continued to look at the ghouls, her fingers tracing patterns on the rocky outcrop where the two were hiding.
One rune after another was written on the stone by her with snow water, and she constantly updated their proportions and combinations, modifying and erasing some runes that looked somewhat discordant.
“…It is possible to overcome this,” Wu Chen replied.
"possible?"
“Hmm.” Wu Chen recalled the contents of the novel and the TV series. These two timelines were completely different. “The future appears in two directions in my eyes. One of them is unknown, and I don’t know the final outcome. In the other direction, among the White Walkers, there exists a powerful king.”
"Among the White Walkers sent to Wurnfis's laboratory for research, there was indeed a unique individual that was more powerful than the others of its kind." Hera had seen the White Walker King and knew its specifications. "Its strength was close to that of an ordinary high-ranking warrior, and it was able to inflict a minor injury on Brundoughf during a sneak attack. Could it cross the southern city walls?"
“No.” Wu Chen shook his head. “The Night King is a powerful White Walker, but he still can’t fight against the magic of the Wall. However, he can hunt dragons with his javelins and turn them into undead. And the undead dragons can use dragonfire to melt the magically protected Wall.”
Dragons hold immense significance in this land. The flames of a dragon surpass all other forms of magic.
"Night King." However, Hera's focus was different from what Wu Chen had expected. "Who gave it this name? Its own? Its kind? Or something else entirely?"
Wu Chen thought for a moment.
The Night King is an original character created for the television series' timeline. He is a biological weapon created by the Children of the Forest, a magical creature from ancient Westeros, for the purpose of war. He is the source of all White Walkers and wights; his death means the annihilation of all White Walkers and wights. However, the origin of his title of king cannot be traced back to the events depicted in the television series.
Perhaps it was a child of the forest, now on the verge of extinction; perhaps it was a shapeshifting ancestor of the Stark family, the Green Prophet known as the Three-Eyed Raven. Or perhaps it was a title bestowed upon it by the ancient people who were brutally defeated by the White Walkers in ancient times, amidst their heavy losses in battle.
Wu Chen was unsure, but he relayed all the information he knew to Hera. After that, Hera closed her eyes and pondered for a moment.
"...In the original future that you know, are there other ways to cross the walls of the impasse?"
Wu Chen looked westward—he had previously found this vantage point by relying on the location of a certain mountain from his memory. And further away from this hill, a continuous mountain range was shrouded in cold mist and wind.
“There is a horn.”
"It is called the 'Horn of Winter,' hidden in some tomb or ruin. Blowing it will awaken the giants sleeping beneath the Wall, and the Wall will fall—it was originally meant to be found by the king of the Badlands barbarians to threaten the Night's Watch into opening the tunnel exit beneath the Wall, allowing his men to escape the White Walkers. But the horn he possesses may not be the true Horn of Winter."
“I see.” Hera nodded, reaching out to touch the air before her. Her gaze then pierced the sky, settling on the red comet at the edge of the heavens.
"The situation this land is facing now is more severe than expected. Because I am certain that this is still the time when the magic of this world is just beginning to recover. And the materials of those ghouls below are fresher than expected."
“The fate you know may no longer hold true, Dust.”
Her palms touched the stone surface, which was engraved with numerous runes, and suddenly a series of rapid yet light chants burst from her lips. The rock immediately lost its color, and a thin mist then enveloped her and Wu Chen—she made a gesture of invitation, took Wu Chen's hand, and leaped down the hill.
A thin mist enveloped the two, slowing their rapid descent. They landed lightly in the middle of an army of undead, while the staggering, freshly dressed ghouls in tattered rags and animal hides did not notice their descent.
They can't see them, they can't even perceive them.
“We are soulless. The undead can only perceive us through our breath and flesh,” Hera explained. “So as long as we conceal our life force, they cannot detect our appearance.”
She spoke as she walked.
Wu Chen followed her gaze with his steps—he was not surprised to find that the ghouls with fresher clothes were all strong warriors. In Wu Chen's memory, the barbarians of the Badlands called themselves free people and had basically no idea of respecting the elderly and caring for the young.
Warriors should be the last to die. Because the death of a large number of warriors basically means the destruction of a tribe. The number of the old, weak, sick, and disabled among the ghouls should be huge, but now, the situation before him seems somewhat different.
He didn't see many old or young people—the elderly and young wights he did see were mostly mummies who had long since been buried and then resurrected by the White Walkers' magic. And this situation was clearly not limited to the undead army he had randomly chosen, but was widespread across the dead tide within his sight.
It's obvious that the storyline has changed.
If Hera's judgment of timing was correct, then the barbarians in the Badlands beyond the Wall, who should have successfully escaped to the foot of the Wall during the White Walkers' pursuit, are probably in a rather dire situation.
Perhaps they are still alive.
Perhaps they are already standing beside Wu Chen and the other person.
Regardless of the truth...
Hera stopped in her tracks.
Wu Chen also stopped.
“Duster,” she asked softly. “Would you be willing to cooperate with me on a somewhat dangerous experiment?”
Her fingertips brushed against the sword that Wu Chen had unconsciously gripped, and a faint light immediately appeared on the sword—it was the magical energy phenomenon after the azure flames had converged; its power had not decreased, but its concealment had greatly increased.
The White Walker who held a leading position in this undead army appeared a few meters in front of the two.
"I didn't see the White Walkers' command center, but if we killed a few more, the situation might be different. So—"
She didn't finish her sentence.
"Okay," Wu Chen replied.
The enchanted sword pierced out silently, and in the next instant, it easily pierced the heart of the White Walker from behind.
