Chapters 614 and 615. The Back Mountain
The others immediately shook their heads, because they were all afraid that this damned blowstone would never return.

But they dared not go and scout ahead; the mountains were so high that even if there was a way out, a cliff awaited them.

Moreover, they didn't think that wicked woman would leave such a huge opening there waiting for them; it was probably a dead end.

"Did you guys find it strange today? This medicine doesn't seem to be working very well. I don't feel uncomfortable anywhere, and I even feel like all the fatigue from before has disappeared." Yamaguchi touched his stomach. Every time they took the medicine, they would go through a lot of trouble, but today was a bit unusual.

"Yes, why isn't there any reaction? Could it be that the poisonous woman's medicine is no longer effective?"

"I don't think so. It's probably just that the wrong medicine was delivered."

"I think she's run out of poisons and this time she might be giving us a tonic."

Everyone chatted amongst themselves, stalling for time, thinking the medicine would take longer to take effect. But to their surprise, when the guards brought over the food, they were still as lively and energetic as ever.

This made them all a little uneasy; something about today's medicine was off.

"Do you think they're planning to let us go?" Yamaguchi asked hopefully.

“You haven’t heard of their last meal here. I heard they give people a good meal before they die,” Saburo Inoshita said with his eyes closed. “They probably think we’re no longer of any use to them, so they let us have a comfortable last day.”

“I don’t want to live like this anymore, living in constant fear. Anyway, I’m going to leave tonight,” Chuishi said, mustering his courage. “I’m going to the back mountain today. If I don’t come back, you’ll know that the road is passable.”

The group looked at each other in bewilderment. What kind of ridiculous agreement was this?

"Are you sure it's not a one-way trip?" Tanaka Hei-kun said sarcastically. "Even a fool would realize that if there's no one guarding the place, it means there's no way out."

Fukishi insisted on his idea: "No matter what, I'm leaving here today, even if it's a dead end, it's better than living here in fear every day."

Yamaguchi took a sip of water. "Since you've made this decision, we won't object. We'll keep an eye on things for you tonight."

"Thank you very much then," Fukishi secretly hid today's rations in his pocket, because he didn't know what the way out would be like, and these rations might save his life.

As night deepened, Fukiishi and the others were not sleepy at all. By the moonlight, they saw that the guards were still standing guard not far away. So they quietly opened a door, and Fukiishi, with his body bent, slowly disappeared into the darkness.

"Can he really do it?"

"Whether he succeeds or not depends on his fate, but I think there are probably cliffs or reefs behind him, and it won't be that easy for him to escape."

"how do you know?"

"Anyone with a brain could guess that. Have you forgotten that when we went to the back mountain to collect firewood, we could hear the sound of waves crashing from afar?"

Considering the height of this mountain and the distant coastline, could those rocks possibly sprout wings and fly away?

Everyone suddenly realized, "Then why didn't you stop it?"

"How can we stop him? In their Central Plains parlance, you can't reason with a damned devil. This isn't the first time Chuishi has tried this. Do you think he'll stop secretly taking action just because we stop him?"

The crowd quieted down. Yes, if they had any hope, they would probably be willing to take a gamble.

"Is there really no problem with this medicine today? Why haven't we had any reaction after taking it?"

"We'll know the outcome tomorrow. Go to sleep now. Remember where Fukiishi went today? None of us saw him, and nobody knows." Before leaving, Inoshita Saburo didn't forget to give this instruction. After everyone agreed, he closed his eyes with satisfaction. They didn't even have to wait until the next day. The people who came to patrol in the middle of the night discovered that someone was missing, and their whips lashed out, "Where did the other person go?"

Most people shook their heads, while only a few hesitated to speak. Two people were dragged outside the courtyard, where the guards quickly tied them to wooden stakes, preparing to subject them to severe torture.

They had barely tied them up when the other person couldn't take it anymore and vomited everything up.

Bai Suihe heard that her little white mouse had run away, so she rushed over, but unfortunately she was too late and missed the excitement.

"What about people?"

The guard pointed towards the back mountain, "We've already sent people to look for them."

Bai Suihe was somewhat surprised. How brainless must someone be to choose that dead end?

Below the mountaintop is a cliff, and below that are numerous reefs. Only by descending slowly with a full set of ropes could one possibly escape alive.

Otherwise, either the reefs or the waves below could easily take their lives.

“This has nothing to do with us,” Saburo Inoshita quickly protested. “We were all asleep, and he just slipped away on his own.”

"He sneaked away. How did you know he went to the back mountain?"

Saburo Inoue and the others looked at the traitor who had just confessed. How were they supposed to answer this question given the pre-arranged confession?

Bai Suihe didn't intend to pursue the matter further. Instead, she led her people to the back mountain with great interest. Upon arriving at the back mountain, she found Chuishi confronting several guards who had come looking for her.

"I just came to see the scenery..." he said stiffly when he saw Bai Suihe.

"How's the scenery here?" Bai Suihe glanced at the dark sea. The moon wasn't cooperating tonight, hiding behind the clouds, making his excuse seem ridiculous.

"It's dark, but not bad. The sea breeze feels nice." Fukishi struggled one last time.

"So, are you going to stay here or go back?" Bai Suihe gave him a choice.

Chuishi didn't expect the poisonous woman to be so easy to talk to today. He was about to say that he wanted to stay, but then he immediately realized that something was wrong. The Rong Dynasty people were the most cunning, and there must be a trap in her question.

What's the point of staying on this mountain? Am I just going to leave my life here?

He hurriedly said, "I'll go back right away."

Bai Suihe smiled and nodded, "Since you caused us trouble tonight, I'll send you two extra bowls of medicine tomorrow as a reward."

Chuishi thought to himself, "As expected of that wicked woman, this isn't a reward, she's trying to kill me."

Dealing with just one type of poison usually leaves them physically and mentally exhausted, let alone having to eat two more bowls. But he dared not object and cautiously returned to the pigsty.

When Saburo and the others saw him return, their eyes were filled with disappointment. It seemed that the road behind the mountain could be blocked. But if they wanted to get to the village, they would have to pass through many checkpoints. It was likely that this wicked woman was just waiting for them to walk into her trap.

Bai Suihe was too lazy to say anything more to them. After seeing the effects of the medicine tomorrow, she would give them even more work. They had so much energy, even going out to see the night view in the middle of the night, which meant that sleep wasn't important to them either...
