Chapter 355. Let's Make a Scene.
The Gu clan once again put on a show for the villagers. The villagers, who were initially somewhat wary, realized that these people were nothing special after seeing their farcical antics.

The happiest person was the village chief. It was good that these people were making a fuss, so that no one would be eyeing his position.

If a large family is not united, then outsiders are nothing to fear.

People came to pay their respects to the New Year in an endless stream today. Zhu Ziqiang was all smiles all day long. When he met children, he was unusually generous and gave each of them a few peanuts.

After everyone had left, it was their turn to go out and pay New Year's visits to the elders. Seeing the children running around in the yard, they suddenly remembered, "The Gu family at the end of the village, you should go there too."

“Yes, we should go,” Tian Cuifen nodded quickly. “We’ve made some money from them recently, and life has become much better.”

We don't have anything else good to give them, but we should still keep in touch.

If they don't make some moves, they might end up losing this great job to someone else, and then they'll be crying.

The two daughters-in-law agreed, since their families also received some income from it.

Gu Kaiyuan was taking a walk in the yard with his child in his arms. He had just taken a look around the backyard and found that the greenhouse could now fully meet the family's needs for vegetables.

When he saw so many green vegetables, he thought about getting some to sell in the county town, but when he thought about the complicated situation there, he gave up the idea.

"Happy New Year!"

The front door was wide open early this morning, as it's the Lunar New Year and we want to welcome good fortune and wealth.

Li Dazhuang looked at the person who had come and quickly cupped his hands in greeting, saying, "Wife of the village chief, Happy New Year!"

"I've come to say hello to your master and mistress," Tian Cuifen said, standing outside the door with her two sons and daughters-in-law. This wealthy family had many rules, and even though they had met a few times, she was always very careful about her conduct.

"Happy New Year!" Granny Pang was also very happy to see someone come to visit. Back in the village, the children would always gather around her during the New Year.

She had no children of her own and was exceptionally generous to these children, so the adults were afraid of her, while the children were very close to her.

When she came here this year, Li Dazhuang and the others' children were still very close to her, but after all, she was getting older and was a bit quiet, without much of a New Year's atmosphere.

So much time had passed that she thought no one would come to wish her a Happy New Year today, but upon hearing the noise, she couldn't help but go out to greet them.

Upon seeing that it was the head nanny, Tian Cuifen quickly led her two daughters-in-law to bow, "Granny, Happy New Year!"

"Okay, come in and sit down quickly." After inviting them in, Wu Xiaocui and the others quickly went to get some snacks and tea.

Gu Kaiyuan held the child, nodded to them, wished them a Happy New Year, and then greeted Zhu Ziqiang's two sons.

Granny Pang explained to Tian Cuifen, "My lady is still in her postpartum period and cannot come out to greet her for the time being. I hope she will understand."

Although Tian Cuifen felt that Bai Suihe was being a bit pretentious, in their place, people had to get out of bed the day after giving birth, so there was no such thing as postpartum confinement.

She certainly wouldn't say anything that would offend anyone, and instead said with a smile, "That's right, taking good care of your health is more important than anything else."

This Madam Gu always has a large entourage whenever she goes out, and she rarely goes out. She certainly can't get along with these people, so it's better that she doesn't show herself, otherwise they would feel uncomfortable.

They were served snacks and tea before being seen off.

I thought things would calm down, but then people kept coming to my door.

In fact, the villagers all follow the village chief's lead. Since the village chief comes to befriend them, they certainly can't fall behind.

These exiled people, especially those from the Gu family who were wealthy, were eager to make friends with them in the future. They couldn't miss this rare opportunity to befriend them.

One group of people after another came, making Granny Pang smile happily; she, the housekeeper, finally had a chance to prove herself. Around lunchtime, these people stopped coming, and just as they were about to eat, Chen Dafu arrived.

Gu Kaiyuan looked puzzled, but still smiled and said, "Lord Chen, Happy New Year!"

"Happy New Year!" Chen Dafu replied. "I've come here today to say goodbye."

Gu Kaiyuan was even more puzzled. To be honest, the two of them didn't really have any relationship; they only talked occasionally.

"Doesn't it seem strange?"

Gu Kaiyuan nodded honestly, "Lord Chen, it's time to return to the capital. All the business has been completed."

“As expected, you’re the smartest one,” Chen Dafu said, not surprised. “I’ve finished my errand and was about to leave, but after thinking about it, I decided to come and tell you.”

"Do you think we have no relationship and don't need to pull this stunt?"

Gu Kaiyuan, “…” You’ve said everything, what else can I say?
Chen Dafu said, "Although we haven't had much interaction along the way, I still respect you as a person."

You're not like Gu Baijiang at all; you don't seem like a member of the Gu family.

Although some of your behaviors are inappropriate, I still quite like your little temper.

"If you ever return to Beijing, remember to visit my family, so I won't miss you."

Gu Kaiyuan chuckled, "Lord Chen, stop drawing a maze for me. Just say what you want to say."

"You're really not a likable kid. It's hard for me to have such good intentions."

I came here simply to give you a heads-up: if you want peace and quiet, it's best to stay away from the Gu family.

Gu Kaiyuan said, "Isn't Lord Chen a bit too idle? Why does he even have to meddle in my family's affairs?"

Could it be that Lord Chen is planning to take over the Censorate upon his return this time?

Chen Dafu spat, "Don't curse me. I'm not one of those people who just talk big and try to make themselves noticed."

Don't think I'm being nosy, but for the safety of your whole family, you'd better find a way to leave here.

After leaving those words, Chen Dafu turned to leave. He had taken several steps and was almost at the door when Gu Kaiyuan still hadn't called out to him.

He could only stop in his tracks, turn to look at Gu Kaiyuan, and ask, "Aren't you curious? Aren't you going to ask me why?"

"Lord Chen, please take care and don't see me off."

Chen Dafu stared at him for a few seconds, then suddenly chuckled twice, whether he was mocking himself or Gu Kaiyuan, before quickly disappearing from the Gu family home.

"Master?" Granny Pang stepped forward at this moment, "Should we send someone to keep an eye on him?"

Gu Kaiyuan shook his head. "I've already had someone keeping an eye on things."

Granny Pang then stopped talking and ordered someone to bring the prepared food to the main room, as the madam couldn't go hungry.

Gu Kaiyuan tidied himself up and followed Chen Dafu into the room. He had to have dinner with his wife, so he didn't care what Chen Dafu was up to.

"What does Chen Dafu mean by that?" Bai Suihe heard the conversation outside.
