Chapter 290. Greenhouse
Nothing happened that night. When Bai Suihe woke up the next day, she saw a vast expanse of white before her eyes and knew that she would have to stay indoors for the rest of her days.

Chunxiang and the others brought hot water and helped Bai Suihe wash up. "Miss, is there anything you'd like to eat today?"

The two girls have been showing off their culinary skills these past few days, trying their best to make up for what they missed on the journey.

"Let's eat something hot," Bai Suihe wanted to eat hot pot, but there were no chili peppers here. There were some chili peppers in the vegetable garden behind the space, but she couldn't find a good excuse to take them out.

Where is your son-in-law?

"The young master has gone to the backyard. May I go and call him back?"

Bai Suihe waved her hand, "I'll go take a look."

“But it’s snowing outside and the ground is a bit slippery,” Dongmei and Chunxiang immediately blocked the doorway. “Miss, please tell us what you need.”

The stone path in the backyard hasn't been paved yet. It had been raining lightly a few days ago and was already covered in mud. After a night of snow, it froze solid. Even they had to be extra careful walking on it, so how could we let the young lady take the risk?

Gu Kaiyuan had repeatedly warned Bai Suihe not to go to the backyard.

Bai Suihe forgot about this matter. It had rained and snowed a few days ago, and the ground had long been frozen, so she stopped insisting.

What is your son-in-law doing in the back?

“Miss mentioned the greenhouse earlier. We still had a lot of oilcloth left, and the young master wanted to try it out in the backyard.”

They arrived too late to even stock up on winter vegetables; they only bought some dried vegetables from the market. It would be difficult for them to survive the winter.

When the young lady mentioned greenhouse cultivation, the son-in-law and the others thought it was worth a try. This morning, the son-in-law led Zhuang Datou and the others to work in the back, hoping to grow the vegetables as soon as possible.

"I was just saying it offhand," Bai Suihe really didn't lack vegetables; she had plenty in her space, but she just couldn't find an excuse to take them out.

“Go to the back and call them to stop what they’re doing. It’s so cold; they might catch a cold, and that wouldn’t be worth it.”

"It's alright, Miss. Doing something now will help you get some exercise, and I've already made ginger soup in the kitchen." Chunxiang didn't mind doing something; what she feared most was having nothing to do and just sitting there in a daze.

The snow was still falling outside. Bai Suihe knew she couldn't go any further, so she followed the two maids to the kitchen. Since she couldn't do anything in the rain and snow, she only needed to take care of their meals and didn't ask the village chief's wife to come over.

In the backyard, due to the shape of the mountain, there was no snow in this valley. Because of the shelter of the house in front, there was no cold wind when standing in the valley, and it even felt warmer than outside.

Gu Kaiyuan was overjoyed. "It seems this place is really suitable for building a greenhouse. You guys set up the bamboo stakes first, and I'll go and move the tarpaulin over here."

Here, unaffected by the wind and snow, they can fully unleash their potential and might even be able to build a small greenhouse in just one day.

Zhuang Datou and Lin Hua got right to work. All of them were strong and skilled workers from their previous jobs on the farm. Working together, they quickly drove in the stakes and started building the wooden frame.

They didn't know if the greenhouse would be successful, but if it was, the winter would be easier.

Gu Kaiyuan went back to his room and brought out the greenhouse drawings that Bai Suihe had drawn earlier, then carried the oilcloth to the backyard.

"Take a look first," Gu Kaiyuan called them all over. Bai Suihe's drawings were very clear, and anyone who knew a little about crafts could understand them.

After reviewing the documents, Zhuang Datou and his group felt confident and decided not to ask Gu Kaiyuan for help. They took over the task themselves. Gu Kaiyuan, wanting to test their efficiency, handed the items to them and headed towards the courtyard.

I just smelled a delicious aroma coming from the kitchen; Suihe must have cooked it herself.

Upon entering the kitchen, Gu Kaiyuan saw three women busily engaged in their work. He quickly took the spatula from Bai Suihe's hand and asked, "What are you doing?"

"If you want something sweet, make some sweet and sour pork ribs," Bai Suihe said, taking the spatula from his hand as she was boiling sugar. "Don't make a mess if it burns."

Gu Kaiyuan had never heard of this dish before and knew he couldn't help, so he could only obediently step aside. However, he didn't leave but quietly watched how Bai Suihe prepared it, silently memorizing the steps.

Seeing the sugar bubble, Bai Suihe quickly poured in the previously fried ribs, making sure they were evenly coated with the syrup, before plating them.

"Perfect," Bai Suihe felt that watching the previous videos was worthwhile. Although she had never made it before, she thought the dish should taste good.

Gu Kaiyuan quickly reached out and took it, placing it on the table. "What other dishes would you like to eat? We can make them."

When he saw Bai Suihe's belly pressing against the stove, he couldn't help but reach out to block it, afraid that she might bump into it.

"We'll take care of the rest," Dongmei and Chunxiang said, quick to understand, and stepped forward to take over.

They had wanted to make the sweet and sour pork ribs earlier, but the young lady said she wanted to do it herself, and they agreed as long as she wasn't allowed to go to the backyard.

But after receiving a reproachful look from her son-in-law, the two sisters dared not indulge Bai Suihe any longer.

Bai Suihe also knew when to stop, "Weren't you going to build a greenhouse?"

“I’ve already given them the blueprints and let them figure it out themselves,” Gu Kaiyuan said, helping her to sit down at the table. “Your belly is getting bigger every day, shouldn’t we find a midwife and a wet nurse?”

Bai Suihe was somewhat averse to both options, but she knew that finding a midwife to assist with childbirth was the only choice. As for a wet nurse, Bai Suihe felt it was unnecessary; she really didn't want to entrust her child to someone else for feeding.

"I asked the village chief's wife that day, and she introduced me to an old woman. I specifically asked Dongmei and the others to inquire about her. It turns out that she is the one who delivered all the babies in the village. Since we live in the same village, it might not be good if we don't ask her for help."

Gu Kaiyuan said, “I inquired in the county town and found that the clinic has female doctors who specialize in treating women’s illnesses, so I want to invite them to my home in advance.”

Bai Suihe: "Would they be willing?"

"Give us more money," Gu Kaiyuan thought, assuming that if they couldn't get him to come, it must be because they didn't have enough money.

Bai Suihe said, "You should tone it down a bit. Don't act so arrogant and wealthy. We need to be careful with our current status."

Before everything was settled, they didn't dare to make a living, otherwise they would be at the mercy of others at any time.

"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing." Gu Kaiyuan wouldn't be so impulsive in public. "What about the wet nurse?"

Bai Suihe was silent for a while, then said, "I want to feed the child myself."

“You’re working too hard,” Gu Kaiyuan frowned. His nephews and nieces all had wet nurses, and Bai Suihe was really suffering by following him.
