Chapter 130. Getting off the bus
Bai Suihe touched her belly and quietly chatted with the baby with Gu Kaiyuan.

The three of them communicated in their hearts, fearing that Dongmei and Chunxiang might notice something amiss.

"Baby, why did you wake up today?" Since leaving the capital, the baby has been waking up for shorter and shorter periods of time.

Bai Suihe had asked the baby before, but the baby couldn't explain the reason either. Bai Suihe guessed that it was probably related to her growth, and she usually wouldn't call out to her.

"I've been sleeping so comfortably these past few days, rocking back and forth feels so good," the baby said in a childish voice. "Daddy, Mommy, did I sleep for a long time again?"

Bai Suihe: "It wasn't long, just a few days."

"It would be harmful for you if the baby talked to us, so please don't force it."

Gu Kaiyuan said, "Your mother is right. We have a long future ahead of us as a family."

Baby, "Mommy, have you had any interesting experiences these past few days?"

Bai Suihe: "There are quite a few interesting things. Let your father tell you in detail."

Someone had previously complained about not communicating enough with his daughter, so this rare opportunity was given to him.

Gu Kaiyuan was more than happy to oblige, "Let me tell you..."

Bai Suihe had no idea that Gu Kaiyuan had such eloquence. He could make even the most trivial knowledge about life sound incredibly vivid, and he even brought his own opinions to the conversation.

The carriage swayed back and forth, and Bai Suihe drifted off to sleep again as Gu Kaiyuan spoke.

Gu Kaiyuan helped her cover herself with the blanket before asking, "Baby, there's something I don't understand."

"You want to know who Mother is?" The baby was smarter than expected. "Does Father not like his current Mother?"

“I like you, but your mother seems to be a little hostile towards me.” Gu Kaiyuan had been thinking about the relationship between the couple these days. Although they were still quite close, there seemed to be a barrier between them. He could sense that Bai Suihe was still very wary of him.

Although she confided her biggest secret to him, she still felt somewhat distant from him.

He had been thinking about this question a lot these days, which might be related to what Bai Suihe had said about coming from another world.

“Mother has only temporarily forgotten us. It’s her own good fortune to be in this other world for a while. I could never mistake her for someone else,” the baby said with certainty. “Father, you should give Mother time too. She will remember us.”

Gu Kaiyuan seemed to be thinking, "You mean your mother had a strange encounter in this world, and only forgot about me after arriving in another world?"

"Father is so smart, that's exactly what he means."

The time isn't right yet, but that day won't be far off.

Gu Kaiyuan nodded, "As long as our family is together, Dad won't be afraid to wait."

The father and daughter talked for a while longer until the baby's voice gradually faded away, at which point Gu Kaiyuan opened his eyes.

When he looked at Bai Suihe again, his eyes were full of doting affection. Had he momentarily forgotten about himself and the baby? It didn't matter; he had time and could wait.

The carriage swayed back and forth. Gu Kaiyuan lifted the curtain. In order to let the couple get a good rest, Dongmei and Chunxiang would sit on the carriage shaft during the day and only enter the carriage when they woke up.

Zhuang Datou and Huang Pingguo were responsible for leading the oxen. They both knew how to drive carts, but that wasn't allowed here. The caravan was moving slowly, and they had to keep up with the pace of the people in front.

Even now, the shouts of the escorts could still be faintly heard. After traveling for so many days, someone was still challenging the limits of these escorts. Gu Kaiyuan kept his eyes on the road ahead. When he saw the familiar mountains, he knew that the road ahead would be difficult, and he would have to turn from the official road into a mountain path.

Sure enough, less than fifteen minutes later, the car started to shake, and Bai Suihe was jolted awake from her dream.

“Miss, this road is a bit difficult to walk on,” Dongmei quickly lifted the curtain. “Miss, shall we go down?”

This road is really bad; it's impossible to control.

Zhuang Zhuang and the others have done their best, but the carriage is too bumpy, and it's not suitable for Miss's condition.

Bai Suihe knew that Dongmei and the others meant well for her, so she nodded in agreement, "We've been sitting for too long, it's good to go down and stretch our legs."

When Bai Suihe got off the train, she found that many people had already gotten off, and some were even pushing their cars forward, which showed how bad the road conditions were.

Gu Kaiyuan had Dongmei and Chunxiang help Bai Suihe walk along the roadside, while he went forward to help, pushing the cart behind Huang Pingguo.

The wheels had barely emerged from one ditch when they immediately fell into another large one, forcing the group to push the vehicle forward with great difficulty.

On the Gu family's side, Gu Kaiping was leading the ox, while the others tried their best to keep the vehicle stable.

But the road conditions were far beyond what a few defenseless people like them could handle. They were only thinking about getting away from this bumpy road as soon as possible, and none of them noticed that Rong Ruiyuan and Gu Antong had collided in the carriage.

Rong Ruiyuan reached out and put his arm around Gu Antong, then quickly let go, saying, "Miss Gu, I apologize for the offense."

Gu Antong lowered her head shyly, a blush spreading across her pink cheeks.

"It's not Master's fault, the road here is too difficult to walk on," Gu Antong tried her best to steady herself, but bumped into Rong Ruiyuan's arms again.

Rong Ruiyuan was enjoying the beauty in his arms, but he also had to consider the two young boys in the carriage. He cleared his throat, helped the boy sit up, and asked outside, "What's going on?"

Ming Peifeng said, "Master, the road is very uneven and we can't control it at all. Would you like to get off?"

Many people ahead of us had already gotten off the bus, so walking was clearly more comfortable than taking the bus.

Rong Ruiyuan lifted the curtain and looked ahead. "Then let's get off. Why is the road so bumpy? Aren't we taking the official road?"

Ming Peifeng said, "The official road is much longer, but this mountain path can shorten the distance by more than half, making it more suitable for exiled troops."

Official roads are for horse-drawn carriages that can travel at high speeds. Exile groups have time limits and cannot travel fast, so they usually choose mountain roads to take shortcuts.

Rong Ruiyuan knew the rules of exile, and after calculating, he realized that if he took the official road, he really wouldn't be able to arrive within the stipulated time.

Seeing the person struggling to push the bike forward, he said, "Go ask them how long it will take to walk on this kind of road?"

He had ulterior motives for staying here, but he didn't want to suffer with these exiled prisoners.

As a staff member, Ming Peifeng had already anticipated his master's thoughts: "I have just asked the clerk, and this road condition is in sections. For the next few days, we will have to get off and push the cart from time to time."

"It will be better once we reach the next section of the main road."

"So that means we'll be sleeping in the wilderness for the next few days?" Rong Ruiyuan had already spent the night in the carriage yesterday and was feeling quite uncomfortable. The thought of having to endure this for several more days made his face darken.

"Yes, but should I summon our men?" Ming Peifeng guessed that his master didn't want to suffer this hardship. He quickly offered a way out.
