Nanyang Storm 1864
Chapter 564 Five Dependent States
The entire offensive was lackluster. The Dubai expeditionary force, which suddenly arrived, was extremely ruthless, killing anyone who dared to run around in the streets during the battle without mercy, and quickly took control of the situation.
This was originally a small city with fewer than 10,000 people. It would take less than ten minutes to walk from east to west. The Arabs were caught off guard by the fierce attack launched simultaneously from the west and south.
Only two groups of people fled in panic from the north of the city on horseback, totaling less than a hundred riders.
And so tragedy struck.
Major Mo Yuanhang led his cavalry in pursuit, killing the hundred-odd riders and leaving them scattered and dead. Not a single one of them managed to escape.
The entire battle lasted for more than forty minutes. The expeditionary force then entered the stage of clearing out the city street by street and house by house, driving everyone out of their homes and gathering them in a small square in Dubai.
When the morning glow shines on the horizon
Dubai, this small town on the Persian Gulf, has been completely occupied and is now in the hands of Prince Chu-Zheng Tao.
The expeditionary force immediately dispatched cavalry eastward to notify the fleet anchored dozens of kilometers away to weigh anchor again and set sail for Dubai Port to unload their cargo.
The large amount of supplies brought on this trip, including trucks and machinery, including thousands of barrels of fuel and hundreds of tents, were all loaded onto the cargo ship and not unloaded.
"God, who gave you this right? I strongly protest your illegal military actions. This is blatant aggression. I want to see your officers."
In the city square
Mr. Joseph Baldr, representing the British East India Company in Dubai, wearing a white suit and a hard-top sun hat, shouted loudly with great confidence.
Behind him was the powerful British Empire, which gave Mr. Joseph Balder unparalleled confidence and pride.
He and several white men were brought to Major Mo Yuanhang, who had just returned. Major Mo Yuanhang heard the man shouting loudly and couldn't help but chuckle. He pointed at him with his whip and said...
"Hey buddy, can you be quiet? This sounds like your house burned down. Isn't this an overreaction?"
"Overreacting? Good heavens, that's the worst joke I've ever heard. You Easterners just barged in like this, killing, setting fires, and robbing, violating the tacit understandings that civilized society should uphold. This is an unforgivable illegal act."
"Oh, that sounds somewhat like a diplomatic order. May I ask your identity, sir?"
"I'm sorry, I will only reveal my identity when I see the highest-ranking officer."
"Since that's the case, let a few people take them in and lock them up, so these gentlemen can calm down and seriously think about what they are?"
“I protest! I am nothing!” Mr. Joseph Baldr struggled angrily.
As a result, he was knocked to the ground by a rude soldier next to him with the butt of his rifle, and his big leather shoes stomped on him several times. His protests stopped abruptly and turned into painful groans.
Then, like a dead dog, he was dragged by strong soldiers and locked in a room with several other white men.
Major Mo Yuanhang nodded in satisfaction and said, "Alright, finally it's quiet. Time to get back to work."
When it comes to work, these officers and soldiers are extremely skilled at it.
They had repeated the above actions countless times on Java and Sumatra, operating with high efficiency without needing any orders from their superiors.
First, men and women were separated into different camps, and the old and young were isolated in preparation for the next step of allocation.
These young Arab women were basically distributed among the officers and soldiers of the expeditionary force and their entourage. The beautiful women were presented to His Highness and the middle and high-ranking officers, and the rest were distributed according to regulations.
The excess supplies were taken over by the supply regiment, which handled tasks such as laundry, cooking, and logistical support for the army; they couldn't be idle.
These Arab men were also categorized, including sheikhs, elders, wealthy merchants, tribal leaders, and religious figures. They would all be gathered together and then taken out of the city to a secluded place to be disposed of.
The remaining elderly men over 40 years old were assigned to a battalion to repair the dilapidated earthen walls, clear away the ruins of houses and streets, gather the grazing cattle and sheep, and do other chores within their capabilities.
Young and middle-aged Arabs would rush to the docks to unload the cargo from the ships, and then arrange for road construction, dock repairs, mining, kiln building, and other heavy physical labor—they couldn't be idle.
The related matters form a complete set of procedures, making them extremely quick and easy to handle.
When Prince Chu-Zhengtao entered the city, accompanied by his deputy commander Colonel Feng Shuwen, First Regiment Commander Lieutenant Colonel Wang Zhonghua, Second Regiment Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mei Fushan, and Cavalry Battalion Commander Mo Yuanhang, most of the people in the square had already been evacuated.
The most magnificent Maktoum family estate in Dubai naturally became the palace of Prince Chu-Zhengtao, who selected dozens of beautiful Arab girls aged 14 to 16 to serve as maids in the palace.
Together with the elderly people originally residing in the residence of the Thirty-Third Prince, the basic personnel configuration of the Dubai Royal Palace was completed.
According to the prior plan
With this victory, after occupying Dubai, His Highness Chu-Zheng Tao will quickly send troops to conquer the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and then declare the establishment of the Kingdom of Dubai.
The Mo Farway Cavalry Battalion is now responsible for blocking all communications between the two locations to prevent news of the capture of Dubai from leaking out, thus creating favorable conditions for a surprise attack on the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Throughout Dubai
Scattered along the coast are oases inhabited by approximately 3.7 nomadic tribes. Many of these Arab tribes maintain relative independence and do not follow the directives of Dubai.
These large and small Arab tribes are the final targets to be conquered.
If the sheikh's daughter is obediently married off to the Dubai royal palace and paid tribute on time, then the sheikh can maintain his original nomadic lifestyle, since there's not much profit to be made anyway.
If they don't listen, then erase them completely.
Compared to a small power like Dubai, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is actually not very large. The total number of Arab nomads within its territory is only about 55,000, and Abu Dhabi is also a small city with a population of just over 10,000.
Conquering Dubai and Abu Dhabi is tantamount to establishing a firm rule over the northern part of the Kingdom of Oman, covering an area of over 100,000 square kilometers. It's quite an achievement for a country like Oman.
If they could conquer the Emirate of Qatar in the north, their territory would double in size (note: before the establishment of Saudi Arabia, the inland areas were vast deserts, and these tribal emirates did not have clear borders), making the area quite extensive.
At noon
The fleet of ships, which had been anchored along the coast, slowly sailed into Dubai Creek and docked at the pier, where they began unloading large quantities of supplies.
The two cargo ships have a carrying capacity of over 4 tons, and when combined with the thousands of tons of supplies transported by the immigrant ship, the total volume is quite enormous.
Less than one-tenth of the supplies were originally unloaded at the bay. After docking at the pier, the unloading speed of the two cargo ships was greatly accelerated by using the empty immigrant ships as ramps.
More than 4 Arab convicts carried, shouldered, and lifted supplies at the dock, while simultaneously unloading two cargo ships. In just four days, they unloaded a large amount of supplies, along with 37 trucks and hundreds of diesel engines.
After stabilizing the situation in Dubai, half an infantry regiment and the entire supply regiment, totaling more than 700 officers and soldiers, were left to garrison the city, along with more than 600 management and logistics personnel, to simultaneously begin the town's construction process.
Prince Chu-Zheng Tao personally led the main force of the expeditionary force, totaling more than 1570 people, in 37 trucks, 6 cars and more than 800 warhorses, forming a rapid assault column, heading straight for Abu Dhabi in the southwest of Dubai.
The battle itself was equally unremarkable, almost a copy of the conquest of Dubai, the only difference being that the battle lasted longer.
After nearly two hours of fighting and killing more than 830 stubborn Arabs, the Dubai Expeditionary Force successfully captured the important coastal city, achieving a great victory in the expedition.
Half a month later
On December 24, 1903, the day before Christmas in the West, news of the establishment of the Kingdom of Dubai was spread by telegram, shocking the world.
The Kingdom of Dubai declared its dominion over the surrounding area, making it a vassal state of the Great Chu Empire and requiring it to pay tribute to the Great Chu Empire.
As if by prior arrangement, on December 27th, the 29th prince, Prince Chu-Zhengfa, announced the establishment of the Kingdom of Jeddah in Jeddah, granting it control over the surrounding areas and requiring it to pay tribute to the Great Chu Empire.
On December 28, Prince Chu-Zhengfan, the 15th prince, announced the establishment of the Kingdom of Yemen in Mukalla, granting it control over the surrounding areas and requiring it to pay tribute to the Great Chu Empire.
Only two days later
On December 30, Prince Chu-Zheng Dan, the 16th prince, announced the establishment of the Kingdom of Sara in Sana, granting it control over the surrounding areas and requiring it to pay tribute to the Great Chu Empire.
In the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula, from east to west, there are three kingdoms: the Kingdom of Oman, the Kingdom of Yemen, and the Kingdom of Sarai.
November 31st
On the last day of 1903, Colombia, far away in South America, also joined in the fun, declaring that it had the right to rule the area surrounding Colombia, and that it was a vassal state of the Great Chu Empire, paying tribute to the Great Chu Empire.
Thus
The Great Chu Empire instantly gained five vassal states: the Kingdom of Colombia, the Kingdom of Dubai, the Kingdom of Jeddah, the Kingdom of Yemen, and the Kingdom of Sana'a. All of these were established by the princes, greatly increasing its international prestige.
As the saying goes, "A hero needs three helpers, and a fence needs three posts."
The same applies to international affairs. If the Great Chu Empire were to launch any major foreign military operation, it could instantly form a six-nation coalition by bringing together these vassal states.
If we add the Ryukyu Kingdom, which is completely devoted to China, the Kingdom of Siam, which has been heavily influenced by Chinese influence, and other friendly southern countries, we could instantly form a coalition of ten or even more countries, which would be an extraordinary force.
While European and American countries were still somewhat bewildered, the Great Chu Empire officially recognized the above five countries as vassal states of the Great Chu Empire on January 1, 1904, granting them both military and political protection.
In just over a week, while the international community was generally focused on the situation in the Far East, this incident suddenly came out of nowhere, leaving the British completely bewildered.
The outdated and inefficient British government remained silent for over a month after receiving information about changes in the international situation, still indulging in the lazy period following Christmas.
This is understandable. After the Christmas festivities come one lavish banquet and grand ball after another. It's normal to be a little slow to react to these changes taking place on the Arabian Peninsula.
From London to Paris, there is little sensitivity to changes in the Arabian Peninsula.
First of all
Jeddah and Yemen were originally within the internationally recognized sphere of influence of the Great Chu Empire. Chinese influence in the region was frequent and growing, so it is not surprising that they declared the establishment of a separate state.
There are dozens of Arab emirates on the Arabian Peninsula. What difference does it make if there are a few more or a few less?
In 1902, Abdulaziz led an army of over a thousand men from Kuwait, where he had sought refuge, and annihilated the Emirate of Rashid, establishing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In 1903, His Highness Chu-Zheng Tao led 2,000 men to destroy the Emirate of Maktoum and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in one fell swoop, and established the newly established Kingdom of Dubai.
Other separatist forces seized the opportunity to declare independence, and the Kingdom of Colombia in South America also joined in. However, none of this changed the regional power map, which remained unchanged.
No, something strange seems to have gotten mixed in here.
The British were slow to realize that Lord Gladys, a hardline leader of the Conservatives, published a political commentary in The Times on February 2nd, strongly criticizing the Great Chu Empire's underhanded tactics and breaking the strategic tacit understanding with Britain.
The title is "While we were dozing off, our home was raided again by the East."
This strategic tacit understanding lies in
The Memorandum of Understanding between Britain and Chu in 1872 is one of many treaties and secret memoranda between the two countries.
The Great Chu Empire pledged to exercise restraint in its regional expansion, not extending its influence into the Persian Gulf region, but limiting it to the area south of Jeddah on the Red Sea, a commitment confirmed by the memorandum of understanding between the two countries.
Whether it's the Kingdom of Jeddah, the Kingdom of Sana'a, or the Kingdom of Yemen, none of these actions violate the strategic understanding between the two sides.
As for the Kingdom of Colombia, which joined in the fun, let's not even mention it. It's a story full of bitter tears. The native-born Spanish white people of Colombia suffered terribly, but the various powers just pretended not to see it.
It's not worth going head-to-head with the fresh and powerful Great Chu Empire for the sake of a decadent old Spanish colonizer; it's not worth it.
Among these newly established kingdoms, a strange entity has emerged: the Kingdom of Dubai. No one can deny that the Kingdom of Dubai is a genuine Persian Gulf nation.
Isn't this a clear case of the Great Chu Empire raiding our homeland and invading Britain's sphere of influence once again?
If things keep going like this, can't we even have fun anymore?
Lord Gladys's probing question hit the nail on the head; everything that was known indicated that the State of Chu had violated the rules.
This report also attracted the attention of some London politicians. Unfortunately, before the news could gain traction and generate public opinion, the international media's attention was diverted.
1904st January 2
The three countries of Fukushima, who had been eagerly awaiting the outcome, announced the complete breakdown of negotiations with Tsarist Russia. The two sides immediately found themselves on the brink of war, with an unprecedented war potentially breaking out at any moment.
Faced with such explosive news, the establishment of the Kingdom of Dubai seemed insignificant, completely overshadowed by reports of the dire situation in the Far East, failing to even cause a ripple. (End of Chapter)
