Chapter 971 Conversation
"clatter."
"I'll stay a little longer..."
Connor, who buried his face in his hands, heard footsteps, which made him think that Megan and others came to persuade him. Connor, who was in a depressed mood, wanted to stay alone for a while, so he directly refused.
"rustle."
Connor looked up after feeling someone sitting next to him and saw that the person sitting next to him was not someone from Young Justice, but someone he didn't expect.
"Superman..."
"It's me." Superman smiled, but there was a hint of embarrassment in his smile.
"I'm sorry kid, I was avoiding you."
"No, it's okay." Connor lowered his head. "I understand. After all, I'm a clone created from your genes. It's normal for you to feel overwhelmed in front of me."
"I'm glad you understand me, Connor. You're more mature than me in this regard." Superman said with a look of shame on his face. "You know what? Your appearance is like suddenly having a child. It makes me, a man who's not even married, feel completely overwhelmed."
"Batman consulted with me and he felt that I should take on the responsibility of guiding you. I backed off at the time because I wasn't sure if I could take on the role of a father."
"To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised even if you punched me right now."
"No." Connor shook his head. "I shouldn't have placed a burden on you that didn't belong to you. I've thought about it a lot these days. Normally, I shouldn't have been born. I have no reason to blame you for this."
"You're wrong, kid." Superman said sternly. "No one is born undeserved. The fault is never you, who can't choose, but the bad guys who want to take advantage of you."
Connor stared into Superman's eyes. The former was now certain that the latter really thought so. He could not see the slightest wavering in the other's eyes.
"Thank you, thank you for telling me this. I feel much better now."
Connor smiled and continued, "You know what? Happy always counseled me when I was having these random thoughts. He said something similar to what you said."
"That proves you have a good friend," Superman said.
"Yeah, we can be said to be best friends." Connor's eyes showed sadness. "Honestly, I admire Harpy. He's a clone like me, but I don't see any confusion in his eyes."
"While I was still struggling with why I lived, Hubby had already found what he wanted to do and began to encourage me. It was he who pushed me onto the path of a hero."
"I've read your mission reports and watched the video of your virtual training." Superman showed admiration.
"I admire Habby's willingness to sacrifice himself for his companions. I can honestly say that when I was his age, I was nowhere near as good as him."
"After all, we're both only about a year old." Connor made a joke, which cheered up Superman a little, proving that his persuasion was indeed useful.
In Connor's heart, there are three people in this world who are extremely important to him. One is Habby who has always been with him, another is Superman who is like his father, and the last one is Megan who is in love with him.
But if we talk about the one who currently has the largest share, it would still be Habby, followed by Superman, and finally Megan.
There was no special reason, it was purely a first-come, first-served relationship. Besides, Connor's concept of love between men and women was still a little vague, so Megan's persuasion just now didn't have much effect.
Now that Superman was the one trying to persuade him, the results were naturally better, but Connor still had some way to go before he could fully recover. "Red Scourge formatted himself after realizing his mission had failed," Superman decided to add fuel to the fire, revealing the information the League hadn't yet released.
As expected, upon hearing the news about his enemy, Connor, who had just gotten a little better, immediately tensed up, and his expression was mixed with a hint of hostility.
"It's now just an ordinary AI. Although I don't encourage you to seek revenge, destroying it now is meaningless."
Connor remained silent. The feeling of not being able to kill his enemy made his heart feel like it was being cooked by fire.
In fact, if Connor had an outlet to vent his resentment and anger, he would probably be able to recover faster, but the current situation is that Connor is stuck here.
"I don't know about you Connor, but I think this is a good thing."
Superman said something shocking, and Connor turned his head and looked at him in disbelief.
"If Red Scourge hadn't formatted himself, I really don't know how I would have persuaded you to let go of your hatred, because no matter how I put it, I would have seemed to be indifferent and indifferent."
"But things are different now. Red Scourge has formatted himself. The personality that killed the harpy no longer exists. All that remains is a newly born intelligent AI."
Superman opened his clenched hand, and on his palm was a chip the size of a fingernail.
"This is Red Scourge's AI." Superman stared at Connor with a serious expression. "Connor, I won't force you to make a choice, but I respect your choice, so I'm giving it to you."
Superman said as he placed the chip in Connor's hand, then looked at the latter silently without saying a word.
Connor looked at the fingernail-sized chip in his hand, and he suddenly felt as if a thousand-pound weight had been placed on his palm. For a moment, Connor entered a state of conflict between his conscience and his desires.
After about ten minutes, Connor finally made his choice.
He handed the chip in his hand to Superman, which made the latter smile with relief.
"I'm so proud of you Connor."
"It's no longer the murderer." Connor felt as if all his strength had been drained away. "If I kill it now, it would just be a way of venting my anger."
"I don't want to become the kind of person who can casually take someone's life. Although this thing can't be considered a life, I think it's okay to start with it."
"However," Connor changed the subject. "I hope you can keep an eye on this thing. If I find it doing anything out of line, I will definitely not make the same choice as today."
"Don't worry, Connor." Superman put the chip away. "Batman will keep this thing under control. It won't harm anyone again."
"I hope so." Connor said dryly. Obviously, although he had made the decision, he still hadn't completely let it go.
Superman smiled and nodded. Seeing that the time was right, he brought up another topic.
"Connor, we'd like to hear your opinion on where the harpy should be buried."
