Chapter 670 Abnormal Cindy

After a period of earnest persuasion, Peter finally explained the whole story to Betty.

Betty finally believed that Peter was not so crazy as to turn his sister into a superhuman. All this was due to the fall of New York not long ago.

"I'm doing this to help Cindy understand what's happened to her." Peter placed a beaker in front of Cindy as an ashtray. "The recent events in New York are clearly not simple. The military is shirking responsibility, the government is trying to cover up the truth, and even the superhumans are in chaos."

"It's impossible for us to trust any party in the current situation." Peter leaned back in his chair, his mind unconsciously recalling the advice Howard Stark gave him not long ago.

"For Cindy's sake, we must find out whether the changes happening to her are good or bad. I don't want to be left in the dark when something really happens."

"What does this have to do with you making Cindy wear that tights?" Betty asked after she put out her cigarette.

"If we want to know the truth behind all this, we must first go to the source of it all." Peter tiptoed and moved himself a little in the swivel chair, making room for the computer screen behind him.

Betty understood and leaned forward to look at the screen. The screen showed a map. After Betty carefully identified it, this map should be New York before it fell.

"Based on multiple eyewitnesses and subsequent speculation, the shockwave that transformed Cindy into a superhuman likely originated near central New York City. My guess is that it occurred in Manhattan or the surrounding boroughs."

As Peter explained, several red dots were marked on the map on the screen. These red dots were the places he speculated might be the source of the shock wave.

"Also, these areas are currently surrounded and controlled by Hyperion of the Supreme Squadron. Normal methods of entering are impractical."

Betty nodded. Everyone could see the towering tree walls. Cars definitely couldn't drive in, and aircraft were too big to be a target. Add to that the sentinel robots and some mutants' checkpoints, and ordinary people really couldn't get in.

"So, even if I don't want to, the only way for me now is to rely on Cindy's superpowers to sneak in."

Peter spread his hands and said helplessly, "Believe me, Betty. I care about Cindy just as much as you do. If it weren't for absolutely necessary, I would never let her be in danger."

"To ensure her safety, I have done my best to perfect her uniform. Tonight will be our first experiment."

"How are the experimental results?" Betty asked.

"That's unknown at this point," Peter sighed. "To avoid being detected by the Sentinel robots, I didn't equip that uniform with too much electronic equipment, not even communication devices. But this is only temporary until I develop a device that can counter the Sentinel robots' detection."

"Now if I want to know the specific data of the uniform, I can only wait for Cindy to tell me."

Peter turned his head to look at the place where Cindy had just sat, and found that the source of the quarrel had disappeared long ago. It was probably that she had slipped away quietly while he was explaining to Betty.

"So could you please not tell anyone about this?" Peter scratched his head, thinking about how to convince Betty.

Unexpectedly, Betty said directly: "Okay, I promise you."

"Really?" Peter was overjoyed. "Thank you so much, Betty!"

"Don't be too happy yet." Betty rolled her eyes. "I have a condition. Let me join in." "What? Why?" Peter looked at Betty in confusion.

Betty said nothing, but put the belt she had taken from Cindy on the table, and then showed Peter the side with the Parker Industries logo, and the latter immediately understood what the former meant.

"If I let someone as careless as you assist Cindy, I think it would only leave a lot of loopholes. I worked so hard to get this supervisor position at Parker Industries. The salary and benefits here are good. I don't want to lose everything and start all over again."

Although Betty's words were very mercenary, Peter knew that this was not what she really meant. If she was just doing it for money, there would be ten thousand ways to make money from it.

Apart from anything else, as long as Betty pretended not to recognize Cindy and reported her the next day, she would get a substantial bonus, and no one would know that she did it, and she could go to work as usual.

She could even take this black material and turn to Parker Industries' rival. At this critical juncture, superhumans are indeed a good point of attack. If handled properly, Parker Industries' stock market could plummet.

Betty, who brought this information, can naturally make a lot of money from this matter. At the very least, she can change a company and become a manager. It is not impossible for her to get further advancement.

But Betty chose the worst one. Not only did she not get any benefits, she even had to take the risk of being punished after being discovered to help them. Ordinary friends could not do this.

"Thank you so much, Betty." Peter stood up and shook Betty's hand.

The latter didn't expect Peter's reaction to be so big. After a moment of hesitation, he blushed and pulled his hand back, saying proudly.

"Don't get me wrong, I'm doing this to help Cindy. You know, I watched her grow up, and to me, she's just like my own sister. I don't want someone as careless as you to help her."

"Yes, yes, yes!" Peter smiled. Say whatever you want, as long as you don't expose Cindy's affairs.

Seeing his silly look, Betty shook her head in amusement, straightened her hair, and asked, "Where's Cindy? Where did this little girl go?"

Peter was about to reply when the skylight in the laboratory opened first. Normally, the skylight could not be opened, but in order to make it easier for Cindy to enter and exit, Peter modified it so that it could be opened.

The sound of the sunroof opening attracted the attention of the two men. They turned around and found that the person who came was Cindy they had been talking about. It seemed that she had just returned from a ride outside.

"Where have you been, Cindy? Betty and I have been discussing something about you." Peter's face was stern, and his pretended seriousness made Betty laugh. She knew that Peter was just pretending, and she also knew that he had no dignity in Cindy's eyes.

Cindy glanced at Peter, then said calmly, "I just went out for a drive."

Peter wanted to say something more, but he noticed some scratches on Cindy's uniform, and even small cracks in some places, so he hurriedly asked.

"Why is the suit torn? Are you hurt, Cindy?"

"This one." Cindy looked down at the damage, then looked up and smiled.

"Just a fight with a bunch of thugs, no big deal."
