Chapter 585: Injustice Alliance
Chapter 585: Injustice Alliance (?)
In a stretch of ruins that stretched as far as the eye could see, two slender figures were groping forward bit by bit.
The two men were dressed strangely, like travelers in the desert, with cloaks covering their upper bodies. In particular, their faces were hidden under the hoods and their appearance could not be seen clearly because of the shadows.
The two men walked very slowly, stopping every few steps to turn over the rubble or ruins under their feet, apparently looking for something.
Although there was only ruins, they were able to find some useful things, such as a tape recorder broken into two pieces and a cash register broken into several pieces, which were all garbage that ordinary people would not pay attention to.
Judging from the two men's straight backs and cheerful body movements, they were very satisfied with the garbage and quickly put the treasures they found into the backpacks on their backs.
"It's time to go, Reed." The thinner figure suddenly spoke, and it was a woman's voice.
"It's almost afternoon, those gang members will be coming out soon, and the Supreme Alliance will be here soon. We still need to reserve some time to find food."
"I know, Susan." Reid glanced at the children's digital watch on his wrist, sighing at the cute pony design. "My informant brought word that the Vipers will be out a little early today. They're going to set a date as their holiday, and it seems to be today."
"Holiday? Sunday?" Susan frowned, unable to hide the disgust in her tone.
"Yeah, they even gave it a name, Crazy Sunday."
"Sounds like some fast food brand's membership day."
"You'd better not mention this to Johnny. He's been craving that junk food for a long time."
Susan sighed. Actually, she felt the same way. She always told Johnny to eat less junk food, but now her words have come true and they may never eat it again. Even she is craving those unhealthy flavors.
I ignored you when you were within my reach, but now that you are down and out I can't afford you anymore.
Somehow, Reed's mood was also a little low. The two of them, who were probably frustrated because they couldn't eat junk food, walked back to their base in silence, cautiously and staggeringly.
After arriving at a place where a huge stone slab was pressed down, Reed squatted down and knocked the stone slab rhythmically a few times, then stepped back and waited.
The two didn't have to wait too long. After a few seconds, the large stone slab rose a little, revealing a gap big enough for one person to pass through. Reed and Susan crawled in one after another.
After both of them were under the stone slab, it slowly stuck to the ground again, and it looked as if nothing had happened.
Susan and Reed landed steadily. When the sound of their shoes rubbing against the ground faded away, a dim light suddenly lit up in the dark space, and a large face carved out of stone suddenly appeared in front of them.
"Welcome back Reid, Susan."
"We're back safely, Ben." Susan tossed her backpack to Reid, walked forward, and gently hugged the stone man's waist. "Have you grown taller again?"
"Probably not?" Ben scratched his stone head. "Please don't grow any taller, or I'll have to walk with my back bent."
"Don't listen to Susan." Reid leaned forward. "She's just trying to scare you. I remember your height. It's the same as it was two days ago."
Hearing his friend's denial, Ben wiped away the sweat that didn't even exist and breathed a sigh of relief. This was the first time since he was born that he felt happy about not growing taller. Susan said angrily, "I'm not trying to scare you, Ben. Not everyone can remember things as accurately as you do."
"Yes, yes, I was wrong." Reid admitted his mistake very well. "Let's go, you two. We have a family member waiting for us."
Ben quickly snatched the backpack from Reed's hand. There was no way for him to go out in his current state. This made Ben very miserable. He was not a lazy person, so he could only find something to do within his ability.
"Uh." Reid looked at his stretched arm. "But your strength seems to have increased a bit."
"I know that." Ben scratched his head in shame. "I broke the radio you fixed. I swear I just pushed a button."
"The radio's broken? Johnny must have been complaining about it all morning." Reed didn't blame Ben, but instead joked. "Let's go in quickly to avoid him getting angry."
Just like that, Reed smiled and stretched out his arms, stopping the tall Ben and the thin Susan as they walked inside.
...
'Reed's Inner Notes, Part Three.'
Reed sat in the corner, fiddling with the radio and thinking about nothing. Behind him were Ben, Susan, and Johnny, the three of them sitting on some car seats and chatting.
'It's been a week since that unexplained energy explosion, and I'm now giving the middle finger to the naive me of a week ago.'
Reed threw the broken radio casing aside, picked up a casing and began to install it, then tried to organize the information he had obtained in the past few days in his mind.
"We were waiting for rescue in the ruined New York City. Five days ago, we received news on the radio I had built: General Ross, the military's top general, had died, assassinated by an unknown parahuman."
'Not only that, General Ross's daughter also disappeared at almost the same time, which also caused the number one superhero, Hyperion, to lose his mind. After all, who would have thought that Hyperion was actually General Ross's son?'
"I heard that Hyperion was exhausted from suppressing the New York riots and was attacked by an unknown superhuman. The result of the battle was that Hyperion fainted and the entire squadron suffered heavy casualties."
After waking up, Hyperion received news of his father's death, his sister's disappearance, and the deaths of his comrades, which led to a drastic change in his personality. As a result, the United States now has almost become his sole authority.
Reed held the screwdriver and turned the screw little by little.
"So what did this superhuman president do after taking office? Of course, he wanted to find the superhuman who had destroyed his family. That's understandable, but this also brought disaster upon all superhumans."
Reid sighed, remembering the despairing news he had heard on the radio a few days ago.
"We must nip the danger in the bud." Hyperion's haggard voice came out from the recorder, mixed with a lot of discussions.
This is of course because the program being broadcast at the time was a condolence broadcast hosted by the president himself to comfort the masses. It was obvious that the superhero had intruded into the program uninvited.
"From today onwards, all superhumans will be regulated, starting with those in the United States."
