Chapter 465: The Disappearance of Superhumans
Chapter 465: The Disappearance of Superhumans (1)
"You don't seem particularly happy?"
Yang Le swallowed the bacon in his mouth. You know, when Yang Le was a child, his favorite thing was holidays. He even had the idea of blowing up the school in order to have a holiday.
Unfortunately, he lived in China, not Beika Town, Japan. Bombs were not so easy to get, and bombs were not something he could control, as he looked like a child and had the same intelligence as an ordinary child.
"No, I just feel like I have too much time all of a sudden, and I'm a little overwhelmed."
Gwen fiddled with the bacon on the plate with her fork, casually put a piece of it into her mouth, and chewed it repeatedly with her teeth.
"How about using this week to get back to the life of a superhero?"
Yang Le spread butter on the toast. Unexpectedly, his half-joking suggestion actually piqued Gwen's interest.
"That's a good idea." Gwen slammed her hand on the table with such force that the plates on the table flew up several centimeters.
A cup full of juice also flew off the table. Fortunately, Gwen was quick enough to grab the cup and catch the falling juice, otherwise the juice would probably spill all over the floor.
"Phew." Gwen put the cup back on the table and smiled triumphantly. "Safe."
However, when Gwen looked at Yang Le to show off, he saw Yang Le, who was soaked in juice, looking at him with disapproval.
"Sorry~" Gwen stuck out her tongue awkwardly.
...
After changing his clothes, Yang Le sat on the sofa and began to read today's Bugle Daily.
In fact, the Daily Bugle is not the best newspaper, but when it comes to superhumans, there is currently no newspaper that surpasses them in professionalism.
Perhaps because there is no Spider-Man in this universe yet, James has directed his enthusiasm to other superhumans, which has led to the Daily Bugle becoming one of the most proficient newspapers in superhumans in the industry.
Of course, most of the coverage was negative, with only a few superheroes receiving unbiased reviews, but this was the highest level of praise James could give.
However, although the evaluation of superhumans is unfair, it is indeed difficult to find more comprehensive news about superhumans than the Daily Bugle.
No sooner had Yang Le found an interesting piece of news in a corner of the newspaper.
"Missing Parahumans?"
Gwen's voice came from behind him, followed by a pleasant smell. Yang Le knew that it was the smell of the shower gel that Gwen had been using recently, because he had just used it last night.
Gwen leaned her body on the back of the sofa, then put her head next to Yang Le's head, and in order to save energy, she put her head directly on Yang Le's shoulder.
"There have been frequent cases of missing persons recently." Gwen began to read the contents of the newspaper.
"However, ordinary citizens, please do not worry. All those missing are already documented mutants, or other superhumans who have acquired superpowers for some reason. Currently, there are no reports of ordinary people missing. However, this newspaper would like to remind the public to pay attention to their own safety and avoid going to dangerous areas..."
Gwen paused as she read, her eyes rapidly scanning the useless nonsense. Finally, after finding some useful information, she began to read again. "Since a month ago, there are currently 12 known missing parahumans. This is the list our newspaper has compiled. It may not be complete, but it is absolutely accurate."
The rest was just some character information, so there was no need to read it out. Gwen reached out and took the Daily Bugle from Yang Le's hand and began to ponder.
"What do you think, Harpy?"
"I think something must be fishy at this moment." Yang Le put his hands behind his head and looked up at Gwen's beautiful face.
"A month isn't long, but it's not short either. However, for so many parahumans to disappear in such a short time, there must be some big secret hidden behind it."
Superhumans are people who surpass ordinary humans. Although not all superhumans have combat capabilities, judging from the abilities of these superhumans listed in the Daily Bugle, these people all possess certain lethality.
"I have three ideas at the moment." Yang Le stretched out his right hand and showed three fingers.
"First, ordinary people who discriminate against and hate mutants or other superhumans attacked these superhumans."
"Secondly, some force has kidnapped these parahumans for some purpose. These forces are most likely the government, the military, or AIM, the same group that attacked Midtown High School yesterday."
"Third, those superhumans knew each other. They gathered together for some purpose, and to accomplish something, they had to temporarily disappear from the public eye."
Facing Yang Le's analysis, Gwen nodded frequently. She felt that each of Yang Le's analyses had a high probability of being correct, but the most feared thing in an investigation is fickleness, so even if it was wrong, she had to choose one as the most promising direction of investigation.
However, when faced with choosing which one to choose, Gwen felt hesitant. She was afraid that her misjudgment would lead to wasting time and causing the lives of those disappeared superhumans to be destroyed.
Yang Le looked at Gwen with a frown on her face and immediately understood what she was thinking. Gwen was obviously caught in a dilemma of wanting everything. This dilemma came from her kindness, which was one of the reasons why Yang Le liked Gwen.
"You seem to be falling into a misunderstanding, Gwen."
Yang Le's sudden words interrupted Gwen's thoughts. When she raised her head, she saw Yang Le's calm eyes and her own frowning brows.
"We are going to investigate this matter, but there is no need for you to take on responsibilities that do not belong to you."
"What does this mean?" Gwen looked at Yang Le blankly.
"No one can be perfect Gwen." Yang Le said solemnly.
"It's true that our misjudgment could have caused these people to get into some accidents, but at least we tried to save them. Even if we didn't, there's no need to hold yourself back."
"You know, self-pity is the most useless thing. Instead of wasting time on that, it's better to find the real mastermind behind this and give him a couple of punches, breaking his spine so that he can never do the same thing again in his life. That's more useful than anything else."
"Okay." Gwen's eyes flashed. She didn't actually agree with all of what Yang Le said, but there was one thing she agreed with. There was no point in thinking too much, so it was better to take action first.
She had heard the story of waiting for the rabbit to come to her.
