Chapter 39 Identifying the Mastermind

Chapter 39 Identifying the Mastermind
"Okay." Gwen took off her mask and shook her hair, then looked at Yang Le who had just walked out of the portal and asked.

"Now, can you tell me what you've discovered, Detective?"

"I can't call myself a detective, but I do have some suspicions." After returning to the base, Yang Le also experienced transformation. "First of all, Mr. Matt definitely isn't telling us the truth."

"I can guess that." Gwen leaned against the wall with her arms folded. "But we don't know if he lied."

"No, Gwen, it doesn't matter which of his lies is true. We just need to know that he lied or concealed something."

Gwen obviously didn't understand. She asked confusedly, "What do you mean?"

"Every cause has its effect. Think carefully, Gwen. Why was Uncle George assassinated? Did he offend anyone recently?"

In fact, Yang Le already had the answer in his mind, but in order to train Gwen, he chose to guide Gwen to say the answer herself.

Gwen pondered for a moment, then suddenly realized something. She quickly said, "That terrorist! My dad has been investigating the person who took that terrorist away, and he seems to have made some progress."

"That's right. Anyone who's able to pull a terrorist out of jail is most likely to have the guts and ability to assassinate a police officer who wants to investigate him."

Yang Le confirmed Gwen's guess and continued.

"Then our goal is clear now. Who is your father investigating? That person must be the source of all evil. Do you have any idea about this?"

"My dad has already scolded me once for this." Gwen scratched her hair angrily.

"Don't worry, Gwen." Yang Le put his hand on Gwen's shoulder to comfort her. "If one path is blocked, we can always go around it. Don't forget, we still have another clue."

"You mean...Matt Murdock?" Gwen said uncertainly.

"That's right, our lawyer Murdoch doesn't have such a good reputation. Do you still remember who he works for?" Yang Le looked at Gwen encouragingly.

Gwen looked into Yang Le's eyes and slowly said the name with encouragement.

"I remember hearing about it in the newspaper. I think his name was Wilson Fisk?"

"You can also call him Kingpin. That's his nickname in the underworld. He's a man with connections." Yang Le came to the console and pulled up a photo of Kingpin. A burly, bald white man appeared on the screen.

"Luckily, Kingpin fits all of our previous assumptions. He possesses power, ambition, and courage. If he's truly the mastermind behind this, then Matt is definitely more than we thought. I suspect Matt is most likely the leader of the Hand, which would explain tonight's warehouse ambush."

"Who would have thought that Daredevil, who fought against the Hand in other universes, would become its leader in this universe." Yang Le sighed.

"I know this guy." Gwen looked at Kingpin's picture and seemed to have thought of something. "His picture hangs on the whiteboard in my dad's room."

"It seems the answer is already clear." Yang Le nodded and concluded.

"Uncle George investigated the case and found out about the Kingpin, which angered the Kingpin. The Kingpin ordered Matt to get rid of Uncle George, and then Matt sent in the Hand ninjas."

"That's right." Gwen became excited immediately after getting the answer, her watery eyes filled with joy.

"All we have to do now is arrest Jin Bing and bring him to justice."

"I'm sorry, Gwen, but it's probably impossible to capture Kingpin right now," Yang Le said. "Why?" Gwen looked at Yang Le in confusion. "He's the one who attacked my father."

"There's no evidence to prove this. If you want to arrest him, you need conclusive evidence." Yang Le helplessly spread his hands. "Of course, if you want to lynch him, then ignore what I said."

Gwen opened her mouth but didn't say anything. She tightly gripped the mask in her hand, and finally let go and sat down on the ground weakly.

“If there’s a lynching, what’s the difference between that and those guys?”

"Actually, I think killing that guy should be considered a good deed." Yang Le looked at the autistic Gwen, thought about it but didn't say it out loud, so he had to walk over and sit next to Gwen.

Gwen hugged her legs and buried her head in her arms. She didn't look up when Yang Le came over. Until Yang Le sat down, she just leaned against Yang Le and didn't say anything.

Yang Le was not an unromantic person. He put his arm around Gwen who was leaning against him. Her long golden hair brushed across his neck, making it feel a little itchy.

Maybe it was because he had been wearing the mask for a long time, coupled with the fighting, a faint smell of sweat mixed with the scent of shampoo came into his nose, which was really a bit intoxicating.

Yang Le couldn't help it, and put his nose against Gwen's head and took a few puffs. Gwen's body stiffened at first, and then she jumped up like a frightened cat, keeping a distance from Yang Le.

"What are you doing, harpy!" Gwen, blushing, covered her head with her right hand and looked at Yang Le in shock, her tone full of disbelief.

"Beg your courtesy." Yang Le looked at Gwen awkwardly. He didn't know how to defend himself. He couldn't just say that your smell was so good that it made people intoxicated, right?

The two were speechless and just stared at each other for a long time. Finally, Gwen spoke first to break the awkward atmosphere.

"I'm not in the mood to mess with the harpy right now," Gwen said dejectedly with a sigh.

Gwen's mood is very complicated now. After being treated like this by Yang Le, her depressed mood did not disappear, and another emotion came in. Now the two emotions are mixed together, making her feel uncomfortable as if she was scratched by a cat.

"Sorry." Yang Le apologized again. "Actually, I wanted to say something else, but suddenly I don't know why..."

"Okay, okay, let's forget about what just happened." Gwen reached out and stopped Yang Le from continuing. "First, tell me what you wanted to say before."

"Ahem, what I actually wanted to say is, you don't have to be so anxious, Gwen." Yang Le coughed and tried not to think about what had just happened.

"Now that we've guessed who's behind this, we just have to wait for him to reveal his true identity."

"Are you sure?" Gwen looked at Yang Le suspiciously.

"I'm sure." Yang Le nodded affirmatively. "Based on my understanding of Jin Bing, there's no need for us to go looking for him. He can't stand loneliness, so he'll come and deliver it himself."

In fact, this sentence also applies to all super villains.

"Believe me, Gwen, have I ever lied to you?" Yang Le stood up and walked towards Gwen, wanting to get closer to talk.

Seeing Yang Le coming over, Gwen covered her head and subconsciously took a step back, but this step made Yang Le freeze in place.

"Uh, sorry, it's my spider-sense," Gwen explained awkwardly.
