Chapter 36: First Confrontation with Matt Murdock

Chapter 36: First Confrontation with Matt Murdock

"Good evening, Mr. Murdoch."

Matt nodded, then walked into the elevator on crutches, accompanied by two security guards.

The younger security guard wanted to step forward but was stopped by his companion. He watched Matt swipe his card and the elevator door slowly closed.

"I thought he would need my help," said the young security guard.

His companion patted him on the shoulder and said, "Don't do unnecessary things."

After saying that, he turned around and went back to his post.

---Dividing line---

The elevator shook slightly, and with the sound of the elevator prompt, Matt walked out of the elevator and returned to his home.

Matt, who is blind, doesn't need electric lights. After all, it's his own home. He walked to the wine cabinet in the dark with ease.

Pulling out the cork and taking out two glasses, Matt said as he poured the wine.

"I thought you were going to hide for a while longer."

Gwen, who was standing not far behind Matt, was startled as she was about to speak.

"You knew I was here?"

"I found you as soon as I got home." Matt had finished pouring the red wine and handed one of the glasses to Gwen.

"If you don't mind, we can have a drink and chat slowly, or let me do my bit as a host."

Matt had a smile on his face, exactly like the one in the newspaper, the smile of a winner, as if everything was under his control.

"It seems that Lawyer Murdoch doesn't welcome me."

Matt got goose bumps all over his body, and the wine glass in his hand even creaked. He changed his pace and took a few steps to the side, away from the sudden ethereal voice.

"This really makes me sad. It seems I wasn't invited by Murdoch's lawyers."

Yang Le, who had turned into an ice ghost, had a voice as ethereal as a ghost, which slowly drifted into Matt's ears.

"To be precise, you two came uninvited," Matt wiped the sweat from his forehead. "But I'm ashamed of not understanding the number of guests."

Matt loosened his tie. He still couldn't figure out how Yang Le bypassed his perception and suddenly appeared beside him. If Yang Le hadn't spoken, Matt might not have noticed him.

The powerful senses that had protected him for decades could no longer give him a sense of security. He felt as if he had returned to the darkness of his childhood.

Looking at the panicked Matt, Yang Le knew that the first step of the plan was completed. As a barrister, Matt had very strong psychological defenses. Under normal circumstances, it would be difficult for him and Gwen to get the information they wanted from him.

Therefore, the primary goal is to break through his psychological defenses and destroy his self-confidence.

The method Yang Le chose was also very simple. He faced his powerful senses directly and attacked the ability he relied on for survival. To do this, the Ice Ghost was undoubtedly the most suitable.

Matt's senses, which are more powerful than radar, can make anything invisible. He can use the other four senses except vision to build a three-dimensional image in his mind, which can even cover several blocks.

That's why Matt was able to spot Gwen so quickly; he'd probably already spotted her in the elevator. However, the Ice Ghost was clearly his nemesis. Its phase manipulation allowed him to hide in another dimension, a world away from him. Matt's four senses, which were essential for survival, naturally couldn't detect Yang Le. In other words, as long as Yang Le controlled his own coldness and didn't freeze Matt, Matt would never be able to detect him, even to the day he died.

"We hold no ill will towards Attorney Murdoch." Yang Le released his phasing ability, allowing Matt to sense his location. "We simply have a few small questions for Attorney Murdoch."

"What's the problem? If I knew, I would tell you everything." Matt was secretly on guard, which was in stark contrast to his ease at the beginning.

"The Hand," Gwen said. "Do you have any leads on them?"

'Wow! You guys definitely came to the right place, since the Hand leader is right here,' Matt thought calmly.

Although I don't know how they found out about his relationship with the Hand, it is obvious that they don't know that he is the leader of the Hand.

"When you don't know the other party's intentions, it's obviously better to divert the blame elsewhere."

Matt asked calmly, "The Hand? Sounds familiar. Are you their enemies?"

"I have to remind you about Lawyer Murdoch." Yang Le said quietly from the side.

"Don't ask questions that you shouldn't ask."

"OK! OK! I need to look up my information. I hope you won't hurt me. After all, I'm just a blind man."

"An ordinary blind person can't find me." Gwen said coldly, obviously upset about being discovered in the first place.

Long before coming, Yang Le made a bet with her, betting on whether she would be discovered by Matt first and on the next day's breakfast. Gwen felt that Yang Le was underestimating her, and accepted the bet confidently.

"I've been blind for decades, so of course there must be some differences. Isn't there an old Chinese saying that goes, 'Practice makes perfect,'"

Matt raised his hands to signal Yang Le and Gwen to calm down, then groped his way into the room next door and began searching the table.

Gwen touched Yang Le's hand as she walked past him. This was what they had agreed upon before they came. They had to remind each other before communicating. Yang Le didn't dare to plot loudly in front of someone whose ears could hear sounds from several blocks away.

Yang Le put his finger in front of his mouthparts, signaling Gwen not to speak for the time being, and then quietly watched Matt slacking off in the room.

Matt in the room naturally noticed the interaction between Yang Le and Gwen. He waited for a while and found that the two did not speak except for some body movements, which made him feel a little regretful.

At the same time, he also felt a little terrified. Why did the other party know him so well? This level of understanding even exceeded that of his immediate boss, Jin Bing.

Suppressing his doubts and fears, Matt groped his way out of the room again.

"I just looked up some information. According to my data, the Hand is a cult-like assassin organization. Honestly, why didn't I notice them earlier? This kind of cult is the best to take advantage of."

While throwing out some irrelevant information, Matt did not forget to emphasize his identity: a black-hearted lawyer.

Gwen frowned in disgust under the mask. It was really hard for her to connect the hero Yang Le was talking about with the bastard in front of her who took human life lightly.

"We all know all this. I hope you can bring me something different." Yang Le slowly exhaled some cold air from his mouthparts, and the threatening taste was self-evident.

"Don't get excited, don't get excited. I have another piece of information that will surely interest you." Matt raised his hands quickly and gave a French military salute. The cold air around him made him shiver like a drowned quail.

"I know one of their strongholds!"
