Chapter 1421
Soon after, the Young Justice League arrived at their destination aboard a bio-plane.
This is a wasteland. It seems that the people of Apokolips don't want to attract public attention. This desolate wilderness is sparsely populated, which not only benefits the former but also the Young Justice League.
At least here, even if a battle breaks out, they are not worried about harming innocent civilians or causing trivial matters such as damage to public property.
Since they couldn't find any trace of the kind grandmother in the air, they had no choice but to land, disembark, and search carefully again.
"Beware of enemy ambushes."
As usual, Robin gave a reminder, and the group spontaneously started searching in pairs.
This shows that the kids in the Young Justice League are quite well-behaved; they can do things that even adult superheroes need to be reminded of, without even realizing it.
Of course, you can't say that these kids are more intelligent than adult superheroes.
All the adult superheroes were self-taught, since the superhero profession itself is a new one. Everyone was like blind men crossing a river, learning by themselves from scratch, and naturally, they inevitably picked up some bad habits.
The kids in the Young Justice League are different. Robin and others were originally assistant heroes who had been trained by excellent predecessors, while those who joined later, such as Stargirl, were directly exposed to the education of the former.
These new generation of young heroes are classically trained, standing on the shoulders of giants, and are naturally much better than those lone wolves who figure things out on their own.
Robin, who was in charge, was carrying his testing equipment. Not long ago, when he examined the confiscated Hellspore, he recorded the energy readings and radiation of the Hellspore.
If the kind grandmother had ever come into contact with the hell spores, then Robin could use the detector to find her.
However, after searching for a while, the detector in Robin's hand did not show any special reaction and kept repeating the bland standby tone, indicating that it had not been turned off.
"That's strange." The Martian girl's puzzled voice echoed in everyone's minds. "I sensed Grandma's spiritual fluctuations; she should be nearby, right?"
"Don't worry, Martian girl," Robin comforted her. "It's possible the enemy used some method to interfere with your senses. In that case, let's regroup first."
Seeing that they couldn't find any useful clues, Robin suggested that everyone meet up first and then think of a solution. If all else failed, they should deal with the hundred or so hell spores first.
After all, Hellspore is the most important part of Darkseid's plan. As long as the Young Justice League gets involved, there's no need to worry about those aliens not jumping out.
Robin thought the plan was good and was about to put away the detector and return with Batgirl when he suddenly heard an unusual rustling sound.
The sound wasn't unusual in the woods they were responsible for; after all, leaves make the same sound when the wind blows. However, Robin, who had been trained by Batman, still noticed something amiss.
'There's no wind at the moment, so how could there suddenly be a sound of leaves rustling?'
Although Robin always complains about Batman's paranoia, he himself inevitably picked up some paranoid traits under the latter's tutelage.
With the idea of "going all in regardless," Robin casually threw two batarangs in the direction from which the sound came.
The sharp dart sliced through the air and plunged straight into the bushes. What followed was not the sound of the dart embedding itself in a tree trunk and hitting the ground, but a scream.
"Batgirl, prepare for battle!" Robin immediately reminded Barbara beside him upon hearing the scream, and at the same time, he used his mental link to notify the other members of the Young Justice League.
"Guys, I think I'm under attack." Just as Robin had predicted, about three seconds after he threw his dart, a man dressed in strange clothes jumped out of the bushes, startling him and Barbara.
Why was Robin so startled? Because they all recognized the person in front of them—Black Lightning, a member of the Justice League.
"Black Lightning? Wasn't he supposed to be participating in the Apokolips War?" Batwoman said in disbelief.
"And what's with the clothes he's wearing?"
At this moment, Black Lightning was wearing a white bodysuit, which was completely different from his usual attire. However, what attracted the most attention was the bat dart stuck in his shoulder.
"Robin, was that the dart you just threw?"
Batgirl was a little embarrassed; it was never good to hurt one of her own. She was about to apologize on Robin's behalf when he stopped her.
"No, this isn't Black Lightning." Robin's eyes were sharp. He had been a superhero longer than most of the Young Justice League members, making him a veteran.
Naturally, he knew the Justice League superheroes better than anyone else. His two casually thrown darts, intended for exploration, could not possibly have hit Black Lightning.
Moreover, although Black Lightning is a street hero, he is also a tough guy, but he won't scream loudly when he gets hit by a dart.
If it weren't for the fact that there was a person standing in front of him, Robin would have thought he had just heard the sounds of pigs being slaughtered in a slaughterhouse.
"Who are you?" Robin pulled out two more darts. "Why do you look exactly like Black Lightning?"
In fact, Robin already had some guesses in his mind, but he still said that in order to buy time.
"Swish."
Robin had just posed his question when he heard another rustling sound of leaves. He looked up and saw that several people were already standing on the branches around him.
Like the previous Black Lightning, some of these people were superheroes they knew, while others turned out to be supervillains.
"A clone." Robin said solemnly, slowly uttering his guess.
"You guessed right, kid."
An old yet powerful voice came from behind Black Thunderbolt. Upon hearing this voice, Black Thunderbolt, who had been standing there dumbfounded, obediently hid to the side, his servile appearance like that of a dog.
“These things are indeed clones of people you know.”
The one who spoke these words was an elderly woman dressed in armor, the kind grandmother that Robin and the others had been searching for.
"Grandma, I'm not very good at fighting, but I'm quite good at training and enslaving people. It's just a pity that my carefully trained 'hounds' died a violent death not long ago."
The kind grandmother leaned on a metal rod, gazing at Robin and Batgirl before her.
"There's no other way, I have to train a new one."
