Chapter 1385
Chapter 1385
Batman did not accept Yang Le's proposal.
"Time waits for no one." Batman shook his head, taking a small bottle out of his belt as he spoke.
This is similar to the nasal inhaler bottle that Yang Le used before, except that the bottle is printed with the Batman logo. The contents are exactly the same, both used to refresh the mind and invigorate the spirit.
Sure enough, Batman's condition improved considerably after inhaling the nasal air. Although he was still unsteady on his feet, at least his body stopped trembling.
“We don’t have that much time. It’s been 57 hours since Vandal Savage left Earth, and we still don’t know how long it will take Apokolips to complete the transformation and upgrade of the Parademons.”
"If we can launch an attack on Apokolips before the Parademon upgrade is complete, we can catch them off guard. Therefore, I think we should set off immediately."
"I cannot delay the battle because of my own actions and thus jeopardize the future of the entire planet. Besides, I don't need to go to the battlefield in person; commanding from headquarters is what I should be doing."
Batman's statement was agreed upon by most of those present. As he said, Batman, as an ordinary person, indeed had no way to directly intervene in this battle; at most, he could only sit on Cybertron and command as a commander.
Seeing this, Yang Le didn't say anything more. After all, it was Batman's own wish, and Yang Le could only offer some advice as a friend. Whether or not to listen was Batman's own decision.
Moreover, Batman's words made sense. Even Yang Le only came to his senses at this moment. Batman was just an ordinary person. He didn't need to rush into space to fight head-on like them.
'Subconsciously, I treated Batman the same way I always have, like Superman and other superhumans.'
Yang Le touched his head, and he remembered that classic DC joke he had seen in the real world before.
That was a picture that gathered all the Justice League superheroes, such as Superman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, and Captain Atom, but most people still thought that Batman was the most powerful one.
It's a variation of the joke that Batman is the father of DC Comics, since Batman has indeed done a lot of incredible things, many of which even Superman, the core character acknowledged by DC, probably couldn't do.
There's no way around it; after all, for comic book companies, making money is the most important thing.
"You'll have five hours to handle your personal matters."
Batman's voice pulled Yang Le back from his thoughts; the former had already begun making final arrangements.
"Everyone will meet on Cybertron in five hours. Remember to depart on time in five hours. We will not wait for anyone who is late. We will depart immediately once the time is up."
Despite Batman's seemingly heartless words, this is actually a way out for those who might not want to go to Apokolips.
If someone doesn't want to participate in the Apokolips War for some reason, they can deliberately arrive late and use that as an excuse to avoid the operation.
Most of the superheroes present were intelligent and could generally understand what Batman was saying, but it was precisely because they were intelligent that none of them refused the mission.
Everyone knows that Apokolips' target is Earth. If Apokolips' mission succeeds, all will be well, but if it fails, Earth will still suffer.
Temporary avoidance solves nothing; it's better to stick with the main force, which will increase the chances of success. "Finally, there's one more thing," Batman said after a moment of silence.
"Only the Justice League will participate in this operation. Do not notify any members of the Young Justice League. If we fail, at least Earth still has them."
The simple principle of not putting all your eggs in one basket, or as some might say, leaving a spark of hope, is something everyone present understands.
After giving the last instructions, everyone began to leave one after another. Those who left were mostly people with families, while single people or those without families mostly chose to stay.
Batman was one of them. Seeing this, Yang Le asked curiously, "Aren't you going to say goodbye to Alfred?"
"I've already spoken to him." Batman then slowly sat down, leaning back in his chair to recuperate.
“I had Alfred keep Dick in check. He’s been getting more and more perceptive lately, and if we don’t keep him in check, he’ll easily notice something’s wrong.”
"That's great news," Yang Le said with a smile. "It proves you're getting closer to retirement, and Dick is ready to take over your role."
“If I retire, Dick won’t have to take over my job, and that would be something really great.”
Perhaps due to the impending great battle, Batman became sentimental and uttered something that one would not normally hear from him.
Before Yang Le could reply to Batman, a strong but slender hand landed on his shoulder.
Yang Le turned around, though he didn't need to to recognize who was behind him—his other half, Wonder Woman Diana.
"What's wrong, Diana?" Yang Le asked, puzzled. Logically speaking, Diana wouldn't suddenly interrupt him while he was chatting with someone else; she must have had her reasons for doing so.
“I’m sorry to interrupt your conversation,” Diana said with a smile. “But Yang, have you forgotten that we have a daughter?”
“Cassandra? How could that be?” Yang Le shook his head. “You and she are the most important people to me. I may forget anyone else, but I will never forget the two of you.”
“Easier said than done.” Diana rolled her eyes. “Do I need to remind you that you should have gone to see our daughter before this operation?”
Yang Le remained silent for a while. In fact, he had thought about going back to see Cassandra, but when he thought about how his daughter had an even sharper sense of observation than Dick, he was afraid that he would reveal some flaws.
So Yang Le thought he would record a video and send it home so that Cassandra could see it when he left, saving him some trouble.
But now that he heard Diana say that, he felt that recording only one video was not a good idea, so he said goodbye to Batman and spent the remaining hours with Diana returning home.
Just as Yang Le had expected, Cassandra was indeed very happy to see him when she first got home, but she soon noticed something was off about Yang Le.
Fortunately, Diana and Troy helped them cover for them, which allowed them to get away with it.
After a few warm hours together, Yang Le, Diana, and Troy returned to Cybertron under the pretext of a mission.
