Chapter 1020 Darkseid
Chapter 1020 Darkseid
"Clatter!"
Dessard felt a sharp pain in his palms, then felt a lightness in his body as he was lifted up.
With a creaking and groaning sound in his ears, Dissad knew without opening his eyes that a bunch of Parademons were definitely gathered around him.
Parademons are the most common unit on Apokolips. They are all genetically modified monsters whose original forms are unrecognizable. Their raw materials are the natives of planets conquered by Apokolips.
Parademons possess only the most basic intelligence, which helps them understand the commands of their commanders.
The biggest advantage of this thing is that there are many of them, so it doesn't matter how many die. Therefore, no human demons on Apokolips regard them as life.
No, life on Apokolips is not something to be cherished. The Dark Lord of Apokolips only values worth, and whether you live or die is none of his business.
On Apokolips, no matter your position—whether you're a general commanding an army or a Parademon that can be used as expendable resources—once the Dark Lord deems you worthless, you're not far from death.
Desad is currently in this state. As a member of the Dark Elite and the executioner of Apokolips, he will be hung up like a dead dog after failing once.
“Give me one reason to let you live, Disadvant.”
The voice was full of authority; in the past, even the most dreadful person would tremble at the sound of it, let alone now, when his life was at stake.
In time with the sound, several Parademons carrying chains flapped their wings and lifted Disad a little higher, causing the latter to cry out in pain.
It turned out that the chain wasn't actually tied to Desard; there was an iron hook at the end of the chain, and Desard's palms were pierced through by the hook.
Desad was thus suspended on the chains and lifted into the air by the Parademons. Since Apokolips also has gravity, Desad naturally felt the force of his own weight.
"You went to Earth to cooperate with humans, swearing to me that you would capture the infinite number of people from the new primordial planet and hand them over to me, but what about now?"
Before this, Disad had been tortured for some time, so he had no strength left. His head drooped limply, and he didn't even have the strength to look up at his master.
Suddenly, Desard felt his hair being pulled, and with a sharp pain in his scalp, his head was forcibly pulled up, which allowed him to see his owner clearly.
With skin as white as rock, close-fitting blue-purple armor, and chilling crimson eyes, this man is the absolute leader of the Dark Elite Guild, and indeed, the entire Apokolips.
Darkseid.
“Now, not only have you lost what you were supposed to give me, but you've also lost the Father Box. Tell me, Dessard, how should I punish you?”
Darkseid's voice was calm, without a trace of emotion, but that was precisely what made it terrifying.
It's terrifying to face someone you can't fathom, let alone when that person is your master.
The saying "serving a ruler is like serving a tiger" illustrates this point.
Of course, Darkseid wouldn't execute members of their Dark Elite without reason, but if you commit a serious offense, that's a different story, like Desad now.
Disadard has three faults. First, he failed, which is the simplest one.
Secondly, Apokolips launched three wars of aggression against Earth. Although, in reality, only the invasion of Earth by Steppenwolf was truly Apokolips's first attempt; the subsequent invasions, whether by Kalibak or himself, were voluntary and not part of Apokolips's strategic plan. However, Darkseid never considered objective reasons; he only looked at the results. The result was that Apokolips's invasions of Earth failed all three times, which brought shame upon Darkseid.
Third, Desad lost the stone box, which is very important to Apokolips, rendering many of Apokolips' deployments ineffective.
Having any one of these three points would be extremely fatal, and since Disad had all three, his death was practically a foregone conclusion.
However, as has been mentioned countless times, Darkseid values personal worth highly, and he will squeeze every last bit of value out of Dessaid before executing him.
“Speak, Disadvantage,” Darkseid said, his eyes gleaming red. “Give me a reason not to kill you.”
In the past, Disad would have given up, but now he really felt he could try again.
"My lord..." Disad opened his cracked lips, trying to raise his voice so that he could survive.
"The reason I failed was because I encountered a variable on Earth, a person who possessed the power to defeat an infinite number of people."
Darkseid's eyes flashed red as he said, "Enemy intelligence? That's not enough to save your life."
“No, it’s not just that…” Disad cleared his throat a few times. “That person was wearing a device that could transform him into a powerful being.”
"I can assure you, sir, that instrument is no less advanced than Earth's, nor does it belong to the New Creation Star or Apokolips; it is an unknown technology."
"Oh?" Darkseid's tone rose slightly, the first change in his tone since the start of this conversation.
"That's not all, sir. I also sensed a power in that person that is completely opposite to your power. It is a power of evolution."
"After using that power, the Earthling, who was originally only able to fight the Infinite Man to a standstill, has evolved to a completely new level. At this point, even the Infinite Man is no match for him."
Dessaard was desperate to survive. He spilled everything he knew and then held his breath, waiting for Darkseid's judgment.
After a silence of about five or six seconds, Darkseid's eyes blazed with red light, and then two scarlet rays shot out from his eyes, heading straight for Dessaid.
"Hey!"
"Splash, splash!"
Desad gasped for breath. For a moment, he really thought he was going to die. It seemed that his information had indeed aroused the Dark King's interest.
The two crimson rays dispersed just before hitting him, killing the Parademons carrying chains and pulling his hair from the left and right, which is why Desad fell from the sky to the ground.
However, at this moment, Disadard could no longer care about the excruciating pain all over his body; all he could feel now was the joy of surviving a disaster.
"Your intelligence saved your life, Disad." Darkseid appeared before Disad at some point, the towering anti-life god looking down at Disad, who was now like a drowning dog.
“Your words are still not clear enough. Now go to Mortara and dig out your memories. I want to see them with my own eyes.”
