Chapters 561, 1038, and 1039: Even the Hydra was dumbfounded.
“Speak.” Pierce’s voice showed no warmth, only a cold word, clearly indicating he wasn’t happy.

Hitwell took a deep breath, knowing there was no escaping it this time, and reported in as steady a voice as possible:

"We have just received confirmation from multiple intelligence sources that just a few hours ago, Nick Fury... he was assassinated!!"

"What did you say?!"

Alexander Pierce was taken aback when he heard the message on the other end of the phone, as if he hadn't heard it clearly. Then, a surge of anger at being defied instantly overwhelmed his composure.

He practically roared into the microphone, his voice echoing throughout the completely soundproof office:

"Hitwell! You idiot! I warned you repeatedly beforehand... that you should not take any action against Nick Fury in the meantime before Project Insight goes live."

His death would be like a bomb, drawing all the attention from the outside world, which would disrupt all my plans and bring countless unnecessary scrutiny and variables to my schemes…”

"Are you fucking ignoring what I said? Or do you think you can make decisions for me now?!"

The roar was like a real shockwave, making Hitterville's eardrums buzz on the other end of the phone.

He even had the illusion that Alexander Pierce's spittle, sprayed into the microphone, had landed on his face from a distance.

"Sir! Sir! You...you've misunderstood! Please calm down!"

Sitwell's face was contorted with distress, and his voice was trembling with tears as he hurriedly and cautiously explained, "This time... this time it really wasn't our people who did it! I swear to God, I strictly followed your orders and absolutely did not send out the Winter Soldier on my own."

"Um?!"

Alexander Pierce, who was in the midst of a rage, suddenly had his roar abruptly stopped, as if an invisible hand had grabbed his neck.

His anger was replaced by greater confusion; his brows furrowed, and he asked, somewhat puzzled:
"It wasn't one of our people who did it... What do you mean? Does it mean that besides us [Hydra], there are other people or organizations who are also so eager to send that black guy to hell?"

"Uh...this..."

Hitwell on the other end of the phone hesitated visibly, as if struggling to organize his thoughts, trying to make what he was about to say sound less absurd and fantastical, so as not to reignite his boss's anger and receive fewer scoldings.

He hesitated for a good six or seven seconds before speaking cautiously in a somewhat strange tone: "Sir, you actually know the person who assassinated Nick Fury, he is... [Captain America]!!"

The phone line fell into a deathly silence.

Alexander Pierce stood there, phone in hand, his mind blank for a moment, as if he had turned into a statue.

A few seconds later, he subconsciously took the phone away from his ear, glanced at the screen where the call was going on, and confirmed that he had not misheard or dialed the wrong number.

"W——T——F——?!!"

A furious roar, filled with a sense of absurdity and the rage of being mocked, nearly ripped the office ceiling off.

"Hitwell! Do you fucking think you're funny?! Or do you think I'm senile? Having dementia? Trying to make fun of me with this utter nonsense?!"

Alexander Pierce, his forehead veins bulging with rage, roared into the microphone without holding back, "Anyone in the world... I mean anyone, whether they're terrorists, aliens, or fucking demons crawling out of hell, could assassinate Nick Fury in the next second."

"But Captain America Steve Rogers, that moral paragon, that perfect saint, he would never assassinate Nick Fury, never!!"

"Did you fucking drink some industrial alcohol that Rumlow hid in the armory and burn your brain out? Give me a reasonable explanation... right now! Immediately!"

Hitwell on the other end of the phone sighed helplessly, as if he had expected Alexander Pierce to react this way.

┑( ̄Д ̄)┍

Well, see? I knew it would turn out like this.

Hitwell tidied his words, trying to make his voice sound calmer and more believable, before explaining:
"Sir, I know this news sounds incredibly surreal, like a piece of fake news made up by a third-rate tabloid."

"But reality can be absurd sometimes... We've verified this repeatedly, and it is indeed Captain America who attacked Nick Fury in the street. There were many witnesses, some of whom even filmed the general process on their cell phones..."

He paused, then added, with a mixture of relief and lingering fear:
"If it weren't for Dr. Zola... uh, I mean, the [Insight System] timely retrieved and identified the key figures in these video clips during its daily big data stream screening process, and automatically cut off the relevant online dissemination channels at the first moment, maximizing the blocking and obfuscation of existing popularity..."

The video of 'Captain America committing a crime in the street' has probably already gone viral online, causing a huge sensation worldwide!

"Um... sir, I've selected two relatively clear and representative clips from the intercepted video footage and sent them to your private email address. Take a look yourself, and you'll understand what happened. I can only say the footage... is quite shocking!!"

Alexander Pierce didn't say much, but his heavy breathing betrayed his true state of mind.

He took the phone, strode to the computer on the large desk, his fingers trembling slightly with intense emotion, and entered a complex password to unlock the screen, quickly accessing his private, encrypted email account.

Sure enough, an unread email from Hitwell was right there in front of me.

I opened the email, downloaded the attachment... and then dragged and dropped the two video files onto the huge screen embedded in the wall opposite my desk.

The screen lights up and begins playing the first video.

The image is violently shaking, creating a strong sense of discomfort. The image quality is rough, and it is accompanied by the photographer's terrified breathing and the blurry street noise in the distance.

It was obviously taken hastily with a mobile phone by the photographer, but fortunately the center of focus is still clearly visible.

But Alexander Pierce was too preoccupied with his eye discomfort to notice, because he immediately recognized the modified black SUV that had been forcibly stopped by a Hummer on the side of the road – it was Nick Fury's car.

At that moment, the driver's side door and body of the black SUV were already dented from being hit by a Hummer, and wisps of black smoke were billowing from the hood. But what truly astonished him was the burly figure standing next to the SUV!

The blue and red combat suit, and the iconic 'Stars and Stripes round shield' on his back, were all too familiar to Alexander Pierce.

Sitwell was right, the attacker was none other than Captain America, Steve Rogers!!

However, at this moment, Captain America's actions have nothing to do with the word "hero".

He strode over to the driver's seat of Nick Fury's SUV, which was now malfunctioning on the side of the road, and skillfully stuck a square, grayish-white piece of C4 plastic explosive onto the cracked car window.

Without hesitation, he turned around, nimbly hid behind the Hummer, and detonated it with a bang.

boom--! ! !
A muffled, massive explosion came through the office speakers, the screen shook violently, and terrified screams of pedestrians filled the air as flames and thick smoke instantly engulfed the SUV.

The video ends abruptly here.

Alexander Pierce frowned, his expression unreadable, and then immediately clicked on the second video.

This video is taken from a further angle, as if it was filmed from the second floor across the street.

Although the footage was also shaky and contained background noise from the photographer and his family, it captured more details.

After the explosion, Captain America casually walked out from behind the cover, ignoring the terrified screams and panicked fleeing passersby. He walked to the SUV, roughly assessed the situation, then pulled out another piece of C4 plastic explosive from behind his back and stuck it in the same spot on the car window. Then, as before, he returned to the back of the Hummer.

A few seconds later, another explosion rang out, and the video abruptly ended.

The office fell into a deathly silence.

Although these two videos were not filmed from the initial stages of the assassination, these two clips alone are enough to prove that the information Hitwell just reported was accurate.

Alexander Pierce stood motionless, his mind seemingly about to crash. His facial muscles twitched slightly, and his eyes were filled with extreme shock, confusion, and a sense of utter bewilderment as if he had been slapped hard by an absurd reality.

Because his years of experience as a secret agent, as well as his keen eye and the intuition of a conspirator, clearly told him that the video was real, without special effects or a body double!

Although the expression on the 'Captain America's' face in the picture is not clear, every movement of the other party, and the resolute determination to kill without hesitation... all reveal that he really wants to kill Nick Fury in the car.

This is absolutely not some kind of self-inflicted injury ploy or a smokescreen!
But the question is... why?
This is just too unreasonable!

You know, normally Captain America and Nick Fury are practically inseparable, how could they suddenly turn against each other to this point of life and death?
What exactly are these two up to?

Or perhaps some enormous event, unknown to the outside world, has occurred between them, leading Captain America, this paragon of morality, to commit such a heinous act in the street, even at the cost of killing Nick Fury?!
Alexander Pierce felt like his CPU was about to burn out from this utterly illogical reality!
Power struggle?

Ideological differences?

Are you being controlled?

brainwashing……

Countless guesses and conspiracy theories flashed through his mind, but he rejected them all one by one, because there was no reason to explain the absurd scene before him.

This isn't even worthy of being called magical; it's practically the ultimate mockery of the worldview he built up over decades of intelligence work.

Alexander Pierce, whose head was throbbing, pinched his brow hard; his temples were still throbbing.

"How is Nick Fury now? Is he dead or alive?" Alexander Pierce asked after thinking for a moment, his voice hoarse from shock and thought.

"Well... it's not clear yet."

Hitwell, who had been holding his breath on the other end of the phone, answered the question cautiously: "The scene was very chaotic. Shortly after the explosion, the police and my emergency response team cordoned off the area."

"What is certain at present is that the captain's assassination attempt did not kill him on the spot. According to various clues left at the scene, Nick Fury and his deputy Maria Hill may have escaped by some means after the explosion."

"But I estimate that both of them were seriously injured, otherwise they wouldn't have disappeared completely, and even our special channels can't find any trace of them for the time being..."

Hitwell paused, listening carefully to Alexander Pierce's breathing on the other end of the phone, trying to gauge the other man's current mood.

Seeing that the other party did not immediately erupt, he mustered his courage and cautiously voiced the idea he had been pondering for a long time:
“Sir, I know this whole thing seems incredibly bizarre and inexplicable…”

"You must now think that this illogical scene might be some kind of deceptive trick set up by Nick Fury and Captain America to mislead the outside world."

“But…” Sitwell’s tone gradually became firm, “Actually, for us Hydra, whether Nick Fury is dead or alive, whether this is a conspiracy they set up, or whether they have really turned against each other for some unknown reason, it doesn’t really matter!”

"The current situation is undoubtedly a golden opportunity for Project Insight!"

"Oh?" Alexander Pierce looked up from the screen, his eyes flashing with a sinister and sharp light again. "What do you mean?"

He realized that Hitterville seemed to have grasped some key points.

"Cough cough..."

Hitwell, on the other end of the phone, clearly noticed the subtle change in Alexander Pierce's tone, knowing he had made the right bet. He cleared his throat formally and then slowly said:

"Sir, think about it, regardless of the truth, the undeniable fact is that Captain America assassinated the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the street. That's irrefutable evidence..."
