The walls inside the building were plastered with advertisements for houses for sale. Just as Lin Jue rushed in, the elevator doors were about to close, and he hurriedly shouted, "Wait, wait!"

The people inside the elevator must have heard the noise and pressed the open button. There was only one old woman in the car, carrying a bulging sack on her back. She looked like an elderly woman who went out to collect recyclables to earn some money.

"Aren't you the young man who collects recyclables in Building 3? What are you doing here?" The old woman seemed to recognize him; he must be one of her customers.

"Aren't a lot of people moving out of this building? I'm just checking to see if there's anything I don't need, so I can take it." Lin Jue pressed the button for the 5th floor, and at the same time asked casually, "Grandma, what did that guy on the fifth floor do to offend someone before he died? How come out of so many people in this building, he was the one who died?"

"It's a tragedy, really. I think it must be that girl from Building 7 who came back for revenge. There are definitely more people who will die than just the first two." The old woman's face was full of wrinkles, and she sighed as she spoke, clearly knowing something.

This immediately energized Lin Jue. He had finally run into a fellow resident who didn't avoid him like other residents in the neighborhood, so he could finally ask him all sorts of questions.

However, when he continued to press her for answers, the old woman pursed her lips tightly and stopped speaking, clearly indicating that she was wary of saying too much and that the cat-faced girl would come knocking on her door.

The elevator stopped on the fourth floor. As the doors opened, the old woman carried the sack out. Just before leaving, she finally spoke in a low voice, reminding Lin Jue of something.

“Young man, I see you’re going to the 5th floor. I advise you to be careful. Last night I heard a cat meowing on the 5th floor. That woman has returned.”

After saying that, the old woman hurriedly walked out, and the elevator doors slowly closed.

Lin Jue never realized that the cat-faced girl had left the neighborhood. The investigation by the Xinzhou Inspection Division was rushed and the case was closed easily.

The elevator stopped on the 5th floor. Lin Jue walked out. The corridor on the 5th floor was full of unwanted furniture. The residents on this floor had moved out in a hurry and hadn't had time to take some of their furniture with them.

As Lin Jue walked, he recalled the scenes from the video in the post and deduced the room where the deceased was. Finally, he stopped outside the door of 511.

It was clear that a seal had been affixed to the door panel before, but it had been torn off at some point. Lin Jue tried to pull the door handle, and to his surprise, the door opened easily.

The lock cylinder was broken, the handle inside was forcibly twisted off, and there were scratches on the door panel that exposed the fireproof board filling the security door.

It appears that the cat-faced girl, after killing someone through the window, violently broke down the door and escaped.

Lin Jue gently closed the door and gazed into the room.

The room is quite large, a three-bedroom apartment. Judging from the decoration of the living room, the homeowner is well-off; at least those solid wood furniture pieces would have cost a lot of money.

At the same time, it was also noticed that there were very obvious scratch marks on the floor of the hallway from the living room to the bedroom. These were not left by cat claws, but by people. Among these scratch marks, nail fragments could be seen left in the wooden boards, proving that a tragedy had occurred here.

The man was probably sleeping in the bedroom when the cat-faced girl suddenly climbed in through the window. He tried to escape but fell to the ground. The cat-faced girl grabbed his legs from behind, and he tried his best to grab onto something nearby to resist her strength. In the end, all that was left were scratch marks from his struggle.

There were still some bloodstains on the floor that hadn't been cleaned up, leading all the way into the bedroom, the same bedroom where Lin Jue had seen the shadowy figure downstairs.

The bedroom door was closed. Lin Jue pushed it open abruptly. The curtains opposite the door were swaying slightly, as if someone had just left. Was no one home? Or had they heard the commotion and run away?
Lin Jue entered the room. The bed in the bedroom was covered in bloodstains, and the torn sheets were hanging off the edge of the bed. The Investigation Department usually does not clean up the scene when it investigates a case. The scene will basically remain the same as when the deceased died, unless someone is bold enough to buy a haunted house.

He walked around the room, opening all the wardrobes and bedside tables, but didn't find any particularly valuable clues, except for some clothes and a stack of documents.

The document was an application form for community poverty subsidies. Lin Jue glanced through it and saw that it contained subsidy applications filled out by impoverished residents of the community, including the one he was playing.

"It seems the deceased was a community worker, responsible for coordinating poverty relief subsidies." Lin Jue put the documents back and walked to the window.

From this vantage point, you can see most of the neighborhood clearly.

"Huh? What is this?"

As Lin Jue stood by the window looking down, he noticed scratches on the lower edge of the windowsill, which looked like words carved with fingernails.

However, it wasn't clear from his angle, and the words were upside down from his perspective, so he simply stretched out most of his body and finally saw the words clearly.

There were only three characters, crooked and twisted, with the word "second" carved out with sharp strokes.

"The second one?" Lin Jue frowned. The word was upside down from his perspective, which meant that something was carving these three words on the wall.

So without a doubt, it was carved by that cat-faced girl.

"This homeowner was the second person to die in Qingwangyuan. That should be what these three words mean. Since there was a second one, there might be a third one."

"That old woman clearly knew something; she even said that more people would die later."

Lin Jue was half-hanging by the window, deep in thought, when he suddenly heard a shrill meow. Then he felt something furry fall onto the back of his head.

What the hell?
Lin Jue yanked the thing off the back of his head. It was a dead rat with its throat bitten open. The blood was still warm, so it must have died not long ago.

Because of his movement, he couldn't turn his head to look up, so he could only retreat back into the room and stick his head out to look upstairs.

A dark shadow flashed by on the rooftop railing, and a hideous face could be vaguely seen.

Is that the cat-faced girl? Is she throwing a dead mouse at me to provoke me?

Lin Jue immediately left the room, rushing upstairs, even choosing the fire escape instead of waiting for the elevator. (End of Chapter)
