Chapter 9 Ancient Magic

"Want to learn? I'll teach you?"

The old man's words echoed in Lin Ming's ears. He looked at the lifeless leader of the feathered demon lying on the ground.

He was about to speak, but the next moment he seemed to be disturbed by the power of the fire. Countless feathered monsters in the mountains and forests soared into the sky, trying to escape from this place!

Slave-level, general-level, commander-level, so densely packed that they almost cover the sky, but without exception, they all charge towards the sky!

There are so many feather monsters in this mountain!
Lin Ming looked up at the sky in surprise, but the next moment he heard a sneer.

The old man put down his palm-leaf fan, raised his hand gently, and clouds gathered in the sky!
A cage that covered the entire mountain appeared in the sky. For a moment, all the feathered monsters were like birds in a cage, madly hitting the transparent barrier but it was useless!

"The Cage of Heaven and Earth, it's worthy of being my master's signature magic tool." Zhu Meng exclaimed as he looked at the scene in the sky.

"Magic tool!" Lin Ming looked at Zhu Meng.

"Yes, Master is not only a super-class magician, but also the strongest blacksmith in the whole of China. Unfortunately, he hasn't forged for many years, and I haven't learned the blacksmithing skills." Zhu Meng said with some regret.

"Oh, forging skills? You haven't learned anything at all!" The old man drove all the feather monsters back into the mountains and forests, put away the cage of heaven and earth, and after hearing what Zhu Meng said, he couldn't help but sneered.

Upon hearing this, Zhu Meng could only lower his head, not daring to look at his master.

"How about it? Do you want to learn this? I can teach you." The old man looked at Lin Ming, with a flame of hope burning in his eyes.

In his eyes, Lin Ming was like a walking flame, releasing a burning breath all the time.

This is pure genius! Genius among geniuses!

"I want to!" Lin Ming nodded without any hesitation.

"Hahaha! Then follow me!" The old man stood up and beckoned Lin Ming to walk into the cabin. "My name is Shang Mo. Of course, from today on, you must call me Master."

Wonderful! Wonderful! This flame has been passed down! I have lived up to my ancestors!

Shang Mo almost wanted to laugh out loud, but he was afraid of scaring Lin Ming, so he held it back.

He was the only disciple of his master, and the secret art of fire was passed down to him. He had accepted many disciples before, but no one of them could master this secret art because they did not have enough talent.

Seeing that the inheritance was about to be cut off here, how could he have the face to meet his ancestors in the underworld!

But in the last stage of his life, a person with greater talent than himself appeared and was able to inherit this unique skill. What could be more fortunate than this!

Lin Ming walked into the cabin. The cabin was also very simple, with only a bed, a table and two chairs.

After Lin Ming walked into the wooden house, Shang Mo walked to the door again.

He glanced at Zhu Meng outside and waved gently.

"Go, take care of this feathered monster and see if there are any unusual bones. If not, go to the forest and kill a few more until you find some. Then clean it up and send it to the forge in the back! I'll give it to your junior brother as a meeting gift later!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the door slammed shut.

"I" Zhu Meng looked at the closed wooden door, wanting to say something but stopping himself.

A meeting gift, Master, why didn’t I have it back then?

But he sighed and immediately dealt with the feather demon as his master had instructed.

Inside the wooden house, Shang Mo and Lin Ming sat opposite each other.

"From today on, I will be your master. I will teach you how to control the flames in your body. You are not allowed to leave Luoyu Mountain until you have fully mastered it. Is there anything you would like to ask?"

Shang Mo looked at Lin Mingdao opposite him.

"Is there no apprenticeship ceremony?"

Lin Ming was a little confused. Generally speaking, when learning from a master, shouldn't one go to pay homage to the tablet of the ancestor?
"There's no need to observe these complicated etiquettes. As long as you can pass on this unique skill, that's all that matters."

Shang Mo waved his hand. "Alright." Lin Ming nodded, then asked, "Do I need to disperse my energy and start over?"

After all, Shang Mo's fire magic does not need to rely on the star system, so he wonders whether the star system he is currently practicing needs to be abandoned and practiced again.

"Disperse your energy and start over? Why does this sound so strange to you?" Shang Mo frowned and shook his head, saying, "No need."

"But your fire magic doesn't rely on star particles. Isn't it a different system from the star particle system?"

Lin Ming asked.

"Oh? You figured that out?" Shang Mo was shocked. He didn't expect that his new disciple would be so perceptive.

"In that case, let me ask you, how much do you know about the Star System?"

"The Xingzi system should have been introduced from abroad."

"Yes, the Star System was created by the Heavenly Father of the Holy City over two thousand years ago, but magic already existed before that, and the magic of that time was called Ancient Magic."

"Ancient magic, yours"

"That's right. What I practiced was ancient fire magic, but ancient magic has basically been lost today. If you hadn't come, I'm afraid my lineage would have been cut off. Do you know why?"

"Because it's difficult to learn?" Lin Ming answered with some speculation.

"That's right." Shang Mo nodded, then stood up and raised his hand slightly. Countless flaming stars appeared, forming a beautiful pattern in the air!

Stars! Master, he can also use fire stars!
Lin Ming widened his eyes and watched the fire stars in the air constantly changing.

"In the past, not everyone was qualified to become a mage. Talent was the first hurdle for everyone. Stardust is innate, but those without talent can't even sense the elemental stardust in their bodies!"

"Only a few gifted individuals are able to learn magic under the guidance of their predecessors. However, ancient magic is different from modern star magic. Every breakthrough is a difficult hurdle. It not only requires the accumulation of energy, specifically the energy within stardust, to continuously strengthen the entire stardust! It also requires a certain level of understanding and control over the elements of cultivation. Therefore, ancient magicians are extremely rare!"

"But two thousand years ago, the emergence of something changed the situation." Shang Mo said softly.

"Is it the awakening stone?" Lin Ming thought and gave an answer.

"Yes, the appearance of the Awakening Stone made the first difficulty of ancient magic disappear. It was at this time that the Heavenly Father appeared and created the Star System." Shang Mo sighed
"I have to say, Heavenly Father is truly a genius. The Star-Seed System extracts several star-seeds from stardust, and then strengthens them to achieve a breakthrough by using a single point to break through the entire area."

"This method also allows almost everyone to have the potential to become a supreme wizard. It's good, but it's also bad." Shang Mo shook his head.

"It's precisely because the Star System strengthens the Stars, lacking the understanding of realms and elements, that Star Mages, who could once have cast magic based on their own thoughts, need to reach advanced or even super-level levels to master it. Furthermore, the Star System is a monopoly, and many of its underlying fundamental theories are held by the Holy City, who are unwilling to release them. Therefore, making changes is as difficult as reinventing the entire Star System!"

"Even think of the Holy City as something worse. Maybe they still have something that can restrain the Star System!" Shang Mo sneered.

"It's just that because of the speed of cultivation and popularity of Star Magic, everyone tends to learn Star Magic, while the ancient magic is gradually lost due to its slow cultivation speed and difficulty in breakthrough."

Lin Ming thought about it and stood up, condensing the flame in his hand.

"In other words, the Star System strengthens the Stars, while the Ancient Magic System strengthens the entire Stardust! So, can Ancient Magic use Star Magic?"

"Hahaha. I almost understand." Shang Mo retracted the flaming star in mid-air, then walked out of the room with a smile: "But there is one more thing. Star magic uses stars as a medium to mobilize the magic energy within the stardust, while ancient magic uses magic energy directly. The medium is ourselves! We can use magic energy directly, and we can also use stars to cast magic!"

"Let's go! Let's see how your brother is doing. Next up is the first lesson! Forging and Controlling Fire!"

 Please vote for recommendation.

The ancient magic here is my own setting. It seems to exist in the original work, but it is not mentioned much.

The setting of ancient magic is definitely stronger! However, if it is stronger, there is no reason why so few people practice it. It can only be because it is more difficult and the threshold for practice is high, which leads to no one practicing it.

There is also forging, which is also the protagonist's key skill! So the foreshadowing here is very necessary!
