【Royal Capital: Tower of Night】

"The Tower of Night?" Rein spread out the newly obtained map, his expression gradually becoming serious.

It was a magic experiment tower that had been abandoned for a century, and legend had it that it had been used to contain "fragments of word disaster." Now, however, it had become a new source of pollution.

That night, the members of Obsidian Raven gathered in front of the tower. Rein and Fou, as members of the seventh squad, were the first to infiltrate.

The tower was unusually cold, and with each step, the floorboards made a whispering "crackling" sound, as if groaning at the weight of language.

“I don’t like this place,” Fufu said softly, crossing her arms. “There’s no wind here, not even a ‘morpheme flow’.”

Rein scanned his surroundings with his Mystic Eyes, and suddenly his pupils contracted—

“On the wall… are His marks.”

They saw that the entire wall was covered with densely packed characters, neither modern nor ancient, but a strange, mutated script. Each character seemed to possess its own consciousness, twisting, struggling, and giggling.

“These words… are watching us.” Fufu’s voice also lowered.

"Hurry up, we need to get to the center of the tower."

They continued forward, reaching the middle level of the tower, when suddenly they heard a piercing recitation coming from ahead:
“My words begin with the end of all things. Words not written down will collapse once written down.”

A figure wrapped in bandages stood before the spiral staircase. His voice was hollow, echoing like a cave, and he held a black stone tablet in his hands.

“The Primitive Speaker,” Rein whispered.

That was their true goal: a body that had lost its human language, yet could still manipulate reality through "etymological fragments."

“Stop what you’re doing.” Rein stepped forward, sword already drawn. “Or else—”

"You will not be able to take back your words." The other party responded coldly, then raised his hand, and a brilliant incantation descended from the sky: "Name-Sealing Verse!"

A silver magic circle instantly ignited on the ground, attempting to seal Fou's existence.

"Damn it!" Rein rushed forward to block the magic circle.

But at that very moment, Fufu smiled.

"O Proto-speaker, do you wish to banish my name?"

She raised her hands, summoning a parchment scroll burning with flames, which slowly unfurled.

"I am Fufu—"

"I am not a name, I am a definition."

The scroll burst open, and a "negative sentence" fell like a divine thunderbolt, cleaving the original speaker's "sentence monument" in two.

Stone chips flew everywhere, and the wall collapsed.

The original speaker laughed loudly, but in the laughter, he also broke into fragmented syllables and vanished into the void.

Karp flipped through the report and remained silent for a long time.

Rein stood beside him. "We found the seal mark under the tower, but it was just a decoy."

Holding the cat in her arms, Fufu said calmly, "The true original language... lies even deeper beneath the capital."

Garp closed the file, looked up, and said, "Then prepare for the next investigation. You are our sharpest blade."

Rein nodded, and Fou smiled.

Royal Capital - Silver Tower, Main Hall of the Magic Investigation Bureau.

The towering structure seemed to pierce the heavens, with floating magic arrays inscribed with ancient runes slowly rotating around it. The tower doors opened, and magical power surged forth like a tide, shaking the very soul.

As Rein stepped inside, he immediately felt an indescribable sense of oppression. He looked up and saw a huge magical star chart painted on the dome of the hall, with starlight flowing around it, as if it were not in the same dimension as the real world.

"Welcome to the Magic Investigation Bureau." A calm female voice came from inside.

Fufu immediately gripped Rein's hand tightly.

Approaching them was a female magician clad in a silver-white robe, with a cold and aloof appearance, snow-white hair, and an ancient runic staff hanging at her waist. Her eyes were sharp and calm, as if they could see into one's soul.

“I am Shelley Ifrit, a seventh-tier magician from the Bureau of Investigation, and the guide in charge of this investigation of the ruins.” She glanced at the relic seal that Rein had handed over. “The fragments you brought back… require further investigation, but they are causing unstable magical resonance. Follow me.”

Shelley led the two through the corridor sealed by the magic circle. Along the way, various magic props, relics, and the remains of sealed monsters were arranged in transparent magic crystal cabinets, like a museum of a lost civilization.

Rein's gaze was drawn to a flash of light—a magical life form sealed within a seven-layered barrier, a floating blue flame, its body pulsating with light that seemed to pierce the soul.

"Is that... a demonic soul?" Rein asked in a low voice.

“It’s ‘Edict Flame,’ created by ancient sorcerers for communication and guidance.” Shelley stopped in her tracks. “However, this level of demonic soul is usually not active in the mortal world unless some ancient magic is activated.”

Rein and Fouf exchanged a glance—did a similar power seal within the fragment of the ruins they brought back?
A few minutes later, they were led into the "Resonance Chamber"—a space filled with mirrored devices and echoing spells. Shelley placed the relic fragments on a central floating pedestal, connected to it by a thin thread of magic.

"Stand back a bit." Shelley chanted a spell, her ten fingers drawing an intricate sealing barrier in the air.

The next instant, the fragments of the ruins began to tremble, and a blood-red demonic light burst forth from the crack, illuminating a strange wasteland—amidst the lingering howls of the wind, countless twisted knights and giants stepped out from beneath the sky, like the dead who had transcended time.

“That’s… the Reflection Magic Projection!” Fufu exclaimed.

Shelley's expression changed slightly: "No, it was just a fragment. Inside the fragment you touched, there was a sealed memory of an ancient battle. And this—is not ordinary history, but some kind of... distorted record of a divine war."

Rein whispered, "We did hear some kind of psychic chanting in the ruins... like a summons."

Shelley frowned, a wary glint in her eyes: "Very well. Then, you will have to stay and participate in the special investigation. Because now, this is no longer within the realm of ordinary magic, but involves... the Deeper Abyss."

Suddenly, the hall shook violently, and the alarm array flashed.

"The magical barrier has been disrupted!" a young investigator rushed in to report. "The southern district's barrier has been distorted!"

"Enemy attack?" Rein instinctively shielded Fou behind him.

“Uncertain… but most likely remnants of the Old World.” Shelley took a deep breath and took the runic staff from her waist. “You two—come with me.”

They passed through the teleportation array and instantly traveled from the Holy Silver Tower to the core of the South District defenses.

The place was in complete disarray; the once stable magical barrier had been torn apart by a strange magical crack. A strange man clad in a black feathered robe stood in the center, surrounded by six magical runes inscribed with ancient characters.

"What a hassle, even the Investigation Bureau has been alerted." The man said lazily, "I'm just here to retrieve a bit of my 'memories'."

“Black Feather Sorcerer… Isla Kadro!” Shelley’s pupils contracted. “Oh? You remember me.” The man smiled, and with a casual wave of his hand, a black demonic fire surged forth, transforming into a sharp arrow that shot straight towards her.

"Barrier - Frozen Crystal Barrier!" Shelley chanted the incantation, and a frosty white crystal wall appeared to block the attack.

Fighting broke out.

Rein pulled Fou away and leaped backward, while Fou immediately summoned her Celestial Beast—a silver-winged floating dragon. With a flap of its wings, it emitted a sharp, air-bursting sound.

“You summoned a dragon? That’s quite rare.” Isra chuckled, spinning a magic rune in her hand. “Then I’ll get a little more serious.”

He uttered a spell softly, and his black feather robe unfurled like bat wings, with countless black snakes made of runes surging out from the air and coiling around him.

"Rain, let's join forces!" Fufu shouted.

Rein was already prepared. He drew the enchanted sword from his waist, and his magical power gushed out like a spring, flowing into the sword.

"Thunderfire - Slash Through the Formation!"

The sword light transformed into a blazing fiery lion, crashing down on the enemy, while Fou, using the Silverwing Sky Dragon as a fulcrum, unleashed a Starlight Magic Arrow from the air—

"Star Breath - Chain Break!"

The two spells intersected, and the explosive magical power reverberated outwards, forcing Isla to retreat temporarily.

"Not bad, little guy." He licked his lips, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "It's precisely at times like this that I get the most excited—where exactly are the limits of magic?"

Shelley seized the opportunity to activate a sealing spell, and a platinum chain fell from the void, wrapping around Isla's left arm.

But the next moment, the Black Feather Warlock uttered an ancient phrase in a low voice: "Nightfall - The Abyss Descends."

A deeper darkness split open from the ground, and a huge bone-winged demonic shadow slowly rose, plunging the entire Bureau of Magical Investigation into a trembling of magical light.

"You all get out of here!" Shelley shouted angrily.

Rein did not back down. He turned to look at Fou, who nodded firmly.

“We won’t leave.” Rein pointed his sword at the demonic figure. “We were also involved in this battle.”

Royal Capital, West District, Seventh Magic Administration Tower – Headquarters of the Magic Investigation Bureau.

The crystal-inlaid tower refracted a rainbow of light in the twilight. The fifth to ninth floors rotated slowly like a spinning disc, resembling a giant alchemical device and radiating intense magical energy. The moment he entered the gate, Rein instinctively raised his hand to shield his eyes from the light—it was not natural light, but the pure magical glow emanating from the "Purifying Barrier," said to be able to dispel all disguises, illusions, and curses.

"Please show your investigation certificate or letter of recommendation." The mechanical knight at the entrance spoke in a cold voice, his red crystal eyes scanning Rein and Fou.

“We are special investigators invited here in response to the ‘Twin Moon Ruins’ incident.” Rein took out a scroll with platinum edges from his pocket and handed it over.

The mechanical knight put the scroll into its mouth, and several runes flashed on its chest from a magic circle. A few seconds later, its head nodded slightly: "Verification successful. Please enter. The Director is waiting in the sixth conference room."

They traversed the intricate magical corridors, ascending the bas-relief-covered staircase. Faint magical veins flowed along each step, like living blood vessels. Fou gazed curiously at the constantly shifting shadows on the wall; an owl tumbled scrolls in the air, its feathers dripping ink.

"This place... is it really the Bureau of Investigation? I thought it was some crazy magician's laboratory," she muttered.

Rein chuckled. "You're right. The upper echelons of the Bureau of Investigation are mostly made up of lunatics. They like to call themselves 'Magical Reality Order Maintainers'."

"It sounds so childish and immature."

"Aren't you a magician too?"

“I’m not crazy,” Fou pouted. “I’m a legally registered cute witch.”

"...?"

As we entered the sixth meeting room, a frail yet clear voice rang out the moment the door was pushed open:
"Rain Ethel, Fufu Noya, welcome to the royal capital."

The conference hall was small, but it was filled with strange instruments and floating crystals. In the center of a long table sat an old man with silver hair, wearing a magnificent purple magic robe. His right hand was a transparent alchemical prosthetic limb, with fine runes flowing between his ten fingers.

“I am Shiloh Valian, the director of the Bureau of Investigation.”

Ray bowed and said, "Greetings, Chief."

“I have read your report on the Twin Moon Ruins… It’s excellent, especially the ‘Star-Patterned Beast’ and the out-of-control ‘Echoing Crystal’ that you mentioned.”

"I only said what I saw."

"Modesty." The old director smiled, turning his gaze to Fou. "Is this the girl you mentioned in your report... the one with the 'magic resonance constitution'?"

"Um...are you going to check me?" Fufu immediately took a half step back alertly and crossed her arms over her chest.

Hilo raised his transparent right hand, drawing a pale golden magical layer in the air: "No need to panic. This is just to record your magical frequency so that it can provide matching support when investigating the ruins in the future."

Fufu hesitated for a moment, then nodded. As the light layer emerged, her body glowed with a faint green light, a pure manifestation of nature magic, like the heart of the forest.

“Just like your mother,” Shiloh whispered.

"Do you know my mother?"

"I once explored the terminal ruins of the Old World alongside her."

Fufu's eyes flickered, about to ask further, but she was interrupted by a sudden wave of magic—

Click!

At the other end of the long table, a suspended red magic core suddenly trembled, cracks spreading rapidly like a spiderweb. Immediately afterwards, a piercing alarm blared from the walls, and seven pillars of light rose from the ground, sealing off the entire conference hall.

“Enemy attack?!” Rein drew his short staff, his gaze sharp.

"Is it... a summoning signal from the 'Tower of Crimson Night'?" Hilo frowned and quickly brought up an illusionary image.

In the scene, a crimson magic tower is burning fiercely, and seven men in gray robes are chanting ancient and twisted incantations around the base of the tower. The void cracks open, and a monster with six eyes slowly emerges.

"A forbidden-level monster, the 'Grey-Blood Apostle'... Impossible! That kind of monster was sealed away a hundred years ago!"

Rein's expression changed drastically: "We must get to the scene immediately!"

“It’s too late,” Hilo said in a deep voice. “They’ve launched a spatial interference ritual, so you can’t teleport directly within the capital. You have to take the ‘Underground Dragon Vein Path.’”

“Take me with you!” Fufu said through gritted teeth.

Hilo stared at her for a few seconds, then finally nodded: "Your mother also first stepped onto the ley line when she was seventeen. You are qualified."

-

The underground dragon vein path, a secret treasure of the royal capital.

The ancient bluestone steps snaked like snakes, and the firelight cast leaping shadows on the reliefs on the walls. Rein led the way with his staff in hand, followed closely by Fou, while the members of the Magic Investigation Bureau behind them lit the "Conducting Stones" one by one.

"This underground passage is a secret route connecting the various magic towers, generally used for emergency evacuations or forbidden research," Rein explained in a low voice. (End of Chapter)
