Chapter 8 Mission: 023 Approaching

Chapter 8 Mission: 02-3 Approaching
After clearing out all the demons, Nero was reloading his pistols in the quiet church when he heard a faint roar from afar. Could that be the demon that ruled this forest?
He didn't know what had suddenly made it go crazy, but Nero knew he absolutely didn't want to run into it.

Before the Yama Blade can be taken out and used, the "Light and Shadow" bullets without magic power... to be honest, they are no different from tickling those big guys.

After organizing his weapons, Nero found the stairs and climbed up to the second floor of the church. According to his memory, he pushed open a door on the mountain wall, and sure enough, he saw a secret passage that could cross the valley.

Then, just as he remembered, two demons floating in the air appeared in this deep valley.

"Mephistopheles," as Nero in his previous life called these demons, "little death gods." They cloak themselves in pitch-black magic cloaks, can defy gravity, and pass through walls.

When the earth was already occupied by the demons belonging to the forest, the sky became the only place for other demons to stay. That being said, Nero did not think that those magic flowers that could not survive without a host could catch the ghostly Mephistopheles.

Nero ran along the plank road in the valley, with two demons chasing him relentlessly. They were not very fast, and were being left further and further behind by Nero who was fleeing at full speed.

One thing to clarify is that this doesn't mean Nero can't defeat these two demons. Even without the magic power, the silver-infused exorcism bullets, if piled up in sufficient numbers, would surely rip through the pitch-black magic cloak, exposing Mephisto's true form. Without the magic cloak, Mephisto would be quite weak, unable to fly or pass through walls. Any human with a weapon could easily dismantle it.

The only reason why Nero chose to escape instead of fighting was that it was not cost-effective.

It would be a waste for Nero to spend a lot of bullets to kill these two demons here.

The clang-clang-clang of footsteps bounced off the mountain walls, echoing back and forth into Nero's ears. After running for quite a while, Nero glanced back and realized he could no longer see the demon. He then slowly stopped and walked.

"Ugh……"

She sighed, placed her hand on her chest which rose and fell with her breathing, and gently stroked the scar that became the core of her demonic power.

Then he sighed again and laughed at himself, "It's at times like this that I realize how useful the ghost hand is."

This refers, of course, to the demonic right arm that the original Nero possesses in the game. This right arm is incredibly powerful, allowing him to perform various throwing techniques against demons, naturally drawing on magical power when used.

It is something that the current Nero cannot possess.

If Nero had possessed a right hand like this, there would have been no need for him to flee. His right fist, imbued with demonic power, would have been a formidable weapon once swung, easily shredding Mephisto's magical cloak. However, due to the location of the injury, Nero's demonic presence shifted from his right arm to his chest.

"What can the chest be used for? Can it be used to fire laser cannons?"

Nero tapped this part of his body gloomily and struck a few poses. Then, as expected, no laser was released.

Without such a powerful weapon, it is unavoidable that Nero’s combat effectiveness is so low.

"Ugh."

And think about it carefully, if a "mysterious person" who steals the Yama Blade appears in the future, then Nero will not only lose a hand, but also lose a heart. Whether he can be saved by then may be a big problem.

The more she thought about it, the more irritated she became. Nero frantically ruffled her hair, then as she straightened it out again, she suddenly remembered that this feeling had been with her ever since she learned that the Demon Sword Festival was about to begin.

Anxiety caused by the thought that something bad will happen in the future.

She smiled bitterly, remembering what Jillie had said to her before.

But Nero didn't know at that time that the so-called "bad things that are coming" are actually different from what she imagined. Or perhaps, Nero had already realized that the plot was about to begin, but just couldn't remember it.

"Ugh!"

I can't tell you how many times I've sighed. It seems like it hasn't stopped since Nero recalled his past life.

This also meant that the situation was dire. If Kyrie couldn't be rescued from the Pope, Credo would surely die in this incident, even with Dante's help.

As a family member who had lived together for ten years, Nero couldn't give up on him. He couldn't even think of giving up on him.

Nero's own weakness only exacerbated this anxiety. Even though Nero was now far superior to ordinary people, with only two pistols and physical strength, it was impossible for him to intervene in a battle with real demons.

"Why haven't you reacted yet? Yama Sword." Nero asked in a low voice.

Is it because he awakened too late? Or is there something missing in Nero?
As she pondered, a bright crack appeared not far ahead. Nero was about to step out of the valley. She shook her head, gathered her thoughts, and once again prepared her weapons. She rubbed her face and told herself:

"It's time to get serious."

There were demons in the area ahead, too. This abandoned western forest seemed to have become their playground, and Nero didn't see any living animals along the way.

I'm afraid it has been eaten by the devil.

Nero stepped onto land again. It was a narrow path winding through palm trees and leading to a stone bridge covered with vines.

Those evil demon seeds were everywhere again. Nero looked around and didn't see any other demons. It seemed that they were the source of the demonic power. Perhaps some of them had already hatched and were about to be born.

To be on the safe side, Nero pulled out his pistol again and slowly walked forward. One step, one step, and another...

The forest was dead silent. No animals, no insects chirping, only the lonely sea breeze and the fallen leaves crushed under Nero's feet.

Until a scream broke it all.

Amidst the distant shrieks, seeds across the forest exploded, and plant demons, waving their tentacles, leaped out. Nero couldn't count them all and immediately broke into a run.

She took a quick look and saw that there were no less than ten demons born in that instant!

Normally, these parasitic plants would be unable to move on their own, but two of them quickly blocked Nero's path. She looked closely and saw that the animals that had disappeared from the forest were being parasitized.

Stopping Nero were two canine creatures, their bodies entangled in vines, their original shapes unrecognizable. The few exposed fur patches were severely damaged, indicating they had been parasitized for a long time.

They were devoured by the demon seeds.

Nero slid to avoid the stabbing tentacles and delivered two bullets to the two magic flowers respectively.
