Chapter 472 Mission: 031 The Promise of Hell

Chapter 472 Mission: 03-1 The Promise of Hell
The port city of Limbo.

This city has been named "China's Most Livable City" several times in a row, but not because of its clean streets, fresh air, or low crime rate; in fact, it can be said that this city, sleeping in the dark, is the complete opposite of the above descriptions.

The city, with its pungent odors from chemical plants lingering in the air and its prisons filled with the most heinous criminals rarely seen in other cities, is considered "livable" by many. The only reason for this is—

"Is the food so bad again today?"

"You still think it's rotten? You should be grateful there's anything to eat!"

The jailer tapped on the bars to stop the prisoners' complaints: "You should know there are plenty of people on the ground who don't have enough to eat!"

After he finished speaking, he turned and left, and the prisoners began whispering among themselves again.

"Is it all because the Bank of Silver Bags went bankrupt? It seems the city hall is getting poorer every day."

"I wonder who did this. If I find out, I'll definitely make them taste this real 'dog shit'."

Indeed, the sole reason this city is so captivating lies in the existence of the "Silver Bag Bank." This bank, along with its mysterious owner, is inextricably linked to the lives of everyone in the city.

"Keep exaggerating. It's just a bank, but you're making it sound like the presidential palace collapsed," one prisoner said.

It's normal for some people to disbelieve this story. The prisoner who spoke had spent two-thirds of his life in this prison and had never witnessed the miraculous tower rising from the earth.

And then someone would tell him, "Hey, don't be surprised, the collapse of the presidential palace might not be as troublesome as the collapse of the banks."

You wake up in the morning, turn on the TV to check the news and weather, and Bob Barbas from Raptor News is there to help; on your way to work, you suddenly feel thirsty, so you buy a can of "Vitality Magic Drink" sparkling water; during work hours, you do a quick check of the accounts and find the company is on the verge of bankruptcy again, so the boss takes out another loan from the bank; finally, you leave work feeling stressed, so you find yourself heading to the "Devil's Temptation" nightclub.

All of the industries mentioned above are wholly owned by Silverbag Bank.

And this is just an ordinary, normal day for a resident of Limbo.

Silverbag Bank has woven a vast web of cash flow, trapping everyone living in Limbo within it.

So when the towering Silver Bag Tower in the city center collapsed with a roar, countless riches and contracts turned into snow-white ash and fell to the ground, the impact on Limbo was no less than that of a magnitude 10 earthquake.

The economic collapse is only one of the foreseeable parts of this.

Among the prisoners, a thin, out-of-place figure moved through the crowd.

Then, unsurprisingly, he was knocked to the ground.

"Oh? Isn't this... Vigil?" The tall man who bumped into the other man laughed, "Sorry, you're too short, I didn't see you."

"Vigil" silently stood up and tried to pass by the man, but was knocked down again, which drew more ridicule.

He gritted his teeth and left in silence.

Behind him, the prisoners burst into laughter, then someone suddenly said, "By the way, what did that guy do to get arrested?"

"They say it's 'engaging in terrorist activities'? Honestly, nobody would believe that. They probably offended some tough guys." "It seems to be online terrorism. I guess he used to be a pretty famous hacker."

"Ha, a clever person?"

"If they were truly intelligent, they wouldn't be here."

Virgil's brief freedom soon came to an end. Standing in the center of the small room, he heard a crisp sound signaling that the door had been locked, and closed his eyes.

He has been living here for some time.

After being defeated by the man who called himself "Nero" and stripped of his power and weapons, he awoke to find himself back in the ruined Spartan estate. Filled with fear of Nero, he immediately tried to escape, and in doing so, he ended up in this place.

Although Mondes, Silver Bag Tower, and Birds of Prey had all fallen, the warrant for his arrest remained in effect. No longer Naphite, he was powerless against the riot police and was quickly convicted and imprisoned.

Originally, when he surrendered, he was hoping that his strength would return soon, and that he could easily break through the encirclement even without the Yama Blade. Unfortunately, the result was disappointing.

Later, he eagerly awaited the day when Dante would have a "change of heart" and come to his rescue after he was imprisoned, but the result was equally disappointing.

But fortunately, he was Virgil, so this wasn't a hopeless situation for him. He still had a large sum of money in his secret account, enough to allow him to defy fate—

What? The Silver Bag Bank has collapsed? And Virgil himself was involved?
That's fine.

But a cunning rabbit has three burrows; even though the bank had collapsed, he still had other ways to quickly acquire a sum of money. And with this money, he successfully obtained a batch of things he wanted.

Virgil lifted the bed board, revealing a magic circle he had drawn with special paint. This was his last hope of escaping this prison.

He lay down on it and took a deep breath.

The feeling of his soul leaving his body was unpleasant for someone who wasn't originally a medium, but unfortunately, he had no other choice. Having successfully entered the other dimension in his soul form, he walked straight through the tightly closed cell door, his gaze following the jailer holding the key.

Follow him, then subdue him. Virgil directed the vacant-eyed jailer back, opened the door, glanced inside, and closed it again. It was as natural as if he'd heard a noise and come to investigate. But before leaving, he silently slipped the key through the crack in the door and left it inside.

Everything that followed was a piece of cake.

Someone has escaped from prison!!!

By the time this incident came to light, Virgil's cell was empty. The audacious criminal had somehow knocked out a guard and escaped with his keys and clothes.

The prison system was also hacked. The guards who found their comatose colleagues could not notify anyone else. The surveillance footage showed nothing unusual, and they could not even be sure if the escapee had completely left.

Meanwhile, Virgil had already left the chaotic prison far behind. Under the moonlight, he dug out the clothes he had asked someone to prepare from the place he had specified, and threw the ill-fitting prison guard uniform into the river.

Then, heading upstream, to the city that remained brightly lit despite the disaster, he said:

"I'm back, Dante."
