Chapter 206: Lack of electricity and food, crying loudly

Chapter 206: Lack of electricity and food, crying loudly
Mid-to-late January 1960, at the mouth of the Pearl River, near Changqin Island.

The flames rising into the sky illuminated the entire island and sea area, and the sound of the explosion could be heard from far away.

Zhao Mancang frowned and looked at the merchant ship in front of him, his heart full of helplessness and confusion.

He had just arrived near the Pearl River Estuary and had been staying on Changqin Island. Unexpectedly, not long after he sent a telegram to China Resources Company, his merchant ship docked near the island was surrounded.

The group of people who surrounded them were actually pirates, not the Sam soldiers or Moscow soldiers that Zhao Mancang had thought.

Zhao Mancang was naturally surprised to encounter pirates in this place.

After being surprised, he immediately took out his 155mm howitzer and fired directly.

There was nothing on his merchant ship.

Even if it sank to the bottom of the sea, I wouldn't feel any pain at all.

Those dozens of pirates never understood why they died.

The pirates were preparing to leave the Pearl River Estuary, but they unexpectedly saw a merchant ship on Changqin Island. Unable to restrain their greed, they approached the merchant ship and prepared to rob it.

But he ruined his own life.

The bombardment continued continuously, and Zhao Mancang directly fired more than ten shells.

Because of his rich experience, Zhao Mancang became more and more adept at his work.

As the artillery fire soared into the sky, the pirate ship hundreds of meters away was quickly engulfed in flames.

Hou Jianhua and his men rushed towards Changqin Island. From a distance, they saw the scene of continuous artillery fire. The flames rising into the sky looked like beautiful fireworks.

It is so arrogant that someone would take out such a shell in such a place.

From a distance, Zhao Mancang saw Hou Jianhua and others. Although he couldn't see clearly who they were, he roughly judged that they must be from China Resources Company.

Given the situation on the scene, Zhao Mancang naturally would not meet with them, so he immediately sent them a telegram asking them to go to Dong'ao Island.

After the telegram interpreter received the telegram, Hou Jianhua and his team immediately left the merchant ship and did not step forward to meddle in other people's affairs.

First, they did not have enough strength. Second, the 150 tons of gold in Zhao Mancang's hands were more important to them. Third, there were flames on Changqin Island and the pirate ships had been blown to pieces. Even if Hou Jianhua and others wanted to rescue them, it was too late.

At this time, they could only pray that nothing happened to Zhao Mancang, otherwise, Hou Jianhua and others were not sure what kind of anger the higher-ups would have.

It involves 150 tons of gold, worth 200 million US dollars. This amount of money is too heavy.

Near Dong'ao Island, Zhao Mancang drove a speedboat, took a detour from another direction and quickly came, then took out a merchant ship as disguise.

In fact, until now, he still didn't know where those pirates came from and why they suddenly appeared near the mouth of the Pearl River.

Those pirates were unlucky enough to meet him.

Not long after Zhao Mancang was ready, the merchant ship of China Resources Company arrived. Both sides had a "very cautious" conversation to confirm each other's identities. Only then did Zhao Mancang let them come closer.

"Comrade Zhao Mancang, you've worked hard!"

When they first met, Gui Nian'an and the others were extremely excited, but because an explosion had just occurred on Changqin Island, they did not waste any time. They exchanged a few simple pleasantries, confirmed that the gold was on the ship, and left quickly.

Because Hou Jianhua and the others were really worried that something might happen if they were late!

Starting from Dong'ao Island, we took a detour, passed through the Soko Islands and Fenliu Miaowan, and then headed straight to the Pearl River Estuary.

The merchant ship that Zhao Mancang took out was actually no different from the previous one. There were a lot of gasoline, bombs, light machine guns and other equipment in the cabin.

Although the quantity and outer packaging are different from the previous times, none of these are missing, because they are the confidence that gives Zhao Mancang the courage to return to Hong Kong Island from Mindanao.

Hou Jianhua and his companions looked at the equipment and praised Zhao Mancang for being well-prepared, courageous, and fearless.
In response to these "disguises", Zhao Mancang simply responded modestly and quickly changed the subject.

After entering the Pearl River Estuary, everyone looked relatively relaxed.

Like the previous times, Gui Nian'an and the others couldn't wait to check out the gold.

One hundred and fifty tons of gold, that's a terrifying amount.

There was so much gold because Zhao Mancang took out all the 107 tons of gold he had dug out before, and then he added some more from the system space, making a total of 150 tons.

He has plundered so much gold in Mindanao, and I guess there may not be any left next time.

Currently, if you want to get more gold, you either have to earn it yourself, rob a bank vault, or go to the gold mine to transport it.

But these are not long-term solutions. The best way in the future is to maintain transactions with Ma Jiugong and others, and conduct "barter" transactions with them, so that the relationship can last relatively long.

After a long time, Hou Jianhua and the others still had not fully woken up. After all, the visual impact brought by 150 tons of gold was too terrifying.

More than two hours later, the merchant ship docked on the bank of the Pearl River, and the entire dock was surrounded by soldiers.

Although it was late at night, the dock was still brightly lit.

The matter involved 150 tons of gold, which was too important and transporting them became a big problem.

So, this time, Zhao Mancang can only stay in Baiyun City temporarily. People from the capital have already come, and they will be the ones in the capital who will handle the transportation of the gold.

The next day at noon, Zhao Mancang met the leader who came from Beijing and was praised by the leader.

Wei Huayong also came, along with several other leaders in military uniforms, which shows how much importance they attach to this matter.

Afterwards, Wei Huayong and others followed the leader to see the gold. Even the knowledgeable leader was shocked.

Before the beginning of last year, our domestic gold reserves were not as much as the 150 tons of gold in front of us, because at that time there were only more than 4 million ounces.

But these 150 tons of gold in front of us weigh more than 5.2 million ounces.

As for Wei Huayong and the others, it goes without saying that they had never seen such a large amount of gold in their lives.

The leader was very happy and immediately made arrangements to secretly transport the gold to where it should go.

Afterwards, he took Zhao Mancang back to Beijing by plane, but when they arrived in Beijing, it was already 11 o'clock the next morning.

In the office in Lingjing Hutong, Beijing.

This time, Zhao Mancang met several leaders and was praised heavily on the spot.

Leaders like these don't praise others easily, and even if they do, they are very careful with their wording.

However, the fact that Zhao Mancang brought back gold worth 200 million US dollars from Mindanao was so shocking that when these leaders received the news the night before yesterday, they were stunned for a while.

Zhao Mancang had lunch in the cafeteria in Lingjing Hutong. Although he felt somewhat uncomfortable throughout the meal, the food was indeed very good.

Anyway, Zhao Mancang didn't dare to ask where the canteen's kitchen came from, but he probably thought that the chef should be of the same level as the imperial chef.

Life is nothing more than food, clothing, housing and transportation.

Food comes second, which shows how important it is.

Previously, Zhao Mancang believed that satisfying one’s appetite was actually quite simple, and he did not think that a chef’s cooking skills would improve the way food was prepared.

It was not until he had this meal today that Zhao Mancang realized that although the two dishes, spicy and sour potato shreds and Kung Pao chicken, were just very ordinary, their appearance was very appetizing, not to mention the taste, which really stimulated his tongue.

"Next time, when I have more experience points, I will definitely improve my cooking skills. I can't let my mouth suffer."

Zhao Mancang thought secretly!
It was impossible for him to ask his leader about the chef. He just praised the food for being delicious and didn't have any other thoughts.

After all, he can support himself completely, so there is no need to go through all this.

After dinner, the leader took Zhao Mancang back to the office and asked him about the protection plan for Lin Wan.

Nowadays, Zhao Mancang's importance level has been further increased, but he is different from scientific researchers such as Yu Min.

It was mainly scientific researchers like Yu Min. Except for overseas students like Qian Xuesen, the others only needed to keep their identities anonymous and did not need to make many changes.

Zhao Mancang himself had just returned from Moscow. Although the KGB was too lazy to track down Zhao Mancang, what if the news was accidentally leaked?
There are very few KGB members in the capital at present, and people like them have almost all withdrawn.

This has to start with what Zhao Mancang did in Moscow, starting from when he moved more than 50,000 tons of rutile, to the bombing of the Fukino military base in Vladivostok, and then to the bombing of the office in Tokyo Monzennakacho.

The KGB was already exhausted from dealing with so many things, so it quickly mobilized forces from the capital and other places to deal with these matters.

Of course, the withdrawal of the KGB from Beijing does not necessarily mean that we can rest easy.

"Leader, I think it's pretty good now," Zhao Mancang expressed his opinion, and the leader shook his head.

"It seems fine now, but they live in Denglai Hutong, which isn't very safe after all."

According to the leader's intention, we should move into the compound for cadres' families, which would ensure absolute safety.

Zhao Mancang shook his head and refused. He still had to climb over the wall to go home. It would be inconvenient if he moved to the staff compound.

Just keep the status quo.

Seeing that Zhao Mancang declined his proposal, the leader was helpless and didn't know what reward he should give him.

After all, one hundred and fifty tons of gold is too heavy and too important.

"Boss, if there's nothing else, I'll report back to No. 8 Guozi Lane."

Hearing Zhao Mancang's voice, the leader came back to his senses from his thoughts, looked at the former's face, and laughed dumbly.

Others who stayed in Lingjing Hutong were eager to stay there for a while longer, but Zhao Mancang didn't seem very happy about it.

"Okay, then I'll have someone send you back first. We'll study it, and then you can come back here to claim your reward."

In this way, Zhao Mancang returned to No. 8 Guozi Lane.

Just when Zhao Mancang returned to Courtyard No. 8, several courtyards of the Chinese Academy of Sciences suddenly lost power.

"Why is the power out again? How on earth did Professor Hua and the others do this?"

"Yeah, how can a computer consume so much power?"

"Aren't they doing research and development? Why do they always use that computer?"

In the courtyard, many professors and experts began to complain because power outages had occurred countless times in the past few months.

Ever since Zhao Mancang and Ma Jiugong traded several IBM computers, especially the two IBM 709 all-tube computers, they were too large and consumed a lot of electricity.

After Ma Jiugong and his team brought an IBM 7090 all-transistor computer back to Beijing, Hua Luogeng and his team at the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences finally got the IBM 709 vacuum tube computer, and the nightmare of the Chinese Academy of Sciences began.

Because the IBM709 is indeed a big power consumer, and there are many places in the entire capital that need electricity, such as the steel mills in the suburbs of Beijing, the Beijing Automotive Manufacturing Plant, the Institute of Atomic Energy, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the heavy machinery plant, etc., as well as the Beijing Heavy Machine Tool Plant, the Beijing First Machine Tool Plant, the Beijing Second Machine Tool Plant and other related heavy industrial units that were established not long ago.

These units are indeed major electricity consumers in the current capital.

The thermal power plants currently around Beijing alone are indeed unable to meet the electricity needs of these units.

In this way, we can only sacrifice some residents' electricity consumption to meet the electricity needs of these units as much as possible, and at the same time build as many power plants as possible to speed up the development of electricity.

However, the Chinese Academy of Sciences still experiences power shortages from time to time, and this problem is not so easy to solve.

Especially for those who are engaged in scientific research, when they encounter a power outage, they really want to curse.

They had clearly already used electricity during off-peak hours, but inspiration struck them during the research process and they accidentally encountered the peak electricity consumption period. As a result, coincidences occurred and conflicts arose.

In the courtyard of the Computer Research Institute, several professors from the Chinese Academy of Sciences ran in and earnestly asked Hua Luogeng, Xia Peisu, Min Naida and others to stop opening the IBM 709 so frequently, as they really couldn't bear it anymore.

What could Hua Luogeng and others do about this?

Everyone’s research is equally important, and no one can slow down.

Just at this moment, several leaders came outside the yard and asked about the situation.

With leaders helping to manage the overall situation, experts and professors like Hua Luogeng now have someone to complain to.

They have only one request, which is to supply as much electricity as possible to the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

This made the leaders very worried. The power generation capacity in the capital was planned, and the leaders could not increase it so much at once.

If that’s the case, we can’t continue to cut off residents’ electricity, right?

The electricity supply to other factories and units cannot be cut off either, especially those factories that specialize in producing clothes and other export goods for Wanjia Supermarket. It is impossible to cut off the electricity supply.

The news of the power shortage soon spread to Lingjing Hutong, because everyone wanted electricity and was equally anxious, and no one was willing to back down.

why?
Take the Chinese Academy of Sciences for example. IBM709 and IBM7090 are the two most advanced computers in the world. If the Chinese Academy of Sciences cannot fully understand them and study their technology, how can it replicate and manufacture them?

Only by producing more related computers can we provide support to the relevant scientific research units of the atomic bomb.

To put it simply, there are many theoretical research units just for the atomic bomb, and hundreds or even thousands of related scientific researchers.

Qin Yuanxun, a subordinate of Deng Jiaxian in the research institute, was responsible for mathematics, atomic bomb-related theoretical data calculation, computers, and computer organization and management. His team consisted of more than 80 mathematical researchers.

Qin Yuanxun leads so many researchers, and there are also scientific researchers of the same level or higher than Qin Yuanxun, such as Guo Yonghuai, Peng Hengwu, Cheng Kaijia, Yu Min and others, who lead even more researchers.

Take Yu Min for example. In fact, he has not yet devoted himself to the research of hydrogen bombs. Instead, he will wait until the relevant theoretical research work on atomic bombs is completed before he devotes himself to this work.

To be precise, Yu Min's brain is actually comparable to a computer. Many quite complicated calculations are no problem for him.

But Yu Min is just a person, not a computer, so it is impossible for him to be overloaded.

Just like Qin Yuanxun and other researchers, it was impossible to overload them. Therefore, the Computer Research Institute where Hua Luogeng and his colleagues worked had to complete their research work as quickly as possible and produce as many IBM 709s and IBM 7090s as possible.
The Computer Research Institute is very important, and the tasks of other units are equally important. Both sides will not give in, but the electricity in the thermal power plant is rationed, and there is not enough to go around. What should we do?

I can only ask the leader of Lingjing Hutong.

In fact, the leaders are also troubled. Logically, they don’t need to deal with these "small things" personally, but can these be called small things?
Really not!

Last October, Khrushchev and his team came to Beijing.

At that time, Khrushchev and his group had already issued a threat that they might withdraw all Moscow experts in our country.

Once they really withdraw, many of our units and projects will be interrupted immediately.

This is definitely adding insult to injury!

So during this period, the leaders were also worried about how to solve this problem.

However, Khrushchev and his men didn't care about that.

There has always been only naked interests between countries, but no real friendship.

What's more, for Moscow, our friendship in Beijing is worthless unless we agree to give up control of the long-wave power station.

But this is impossible!
Therefore, Ma Jiugong and Yuan Yushan received orders from their superiors that the next time they conduct business with Comrade Li, they must ask Comrade Li to purchase more generators and related technologies.

A lot of things happened in Beijing, and a lot of things happened in the Gobi Desert in the northwest. Bang!
A gunshot rang out, stirring up a cloud of dust. The gazelle more than a hundred meters away was startled and immediately ran away desperately.

When Hu Xiaobao saw this scene, he was so angry that he pulled the bolt, pushed the bullet into the chamber, then held the rifle in his hand, aimed again, and immediately pulled the trigger.

Another gunshot was heard, and the yellow sheep was hit in the neck. This made Hu Xiaobao very excited.

“I hit it, haha, I really hit it!”

Hu Xiaobao, who saw this scene, rushed forward excitedly.

At this time, his lips were actually cracked, his shoes were worn out, and his two big feet could be seen.

The yellow sheep was not dead yet. It also sensed the approaching danger and wanted to stand up and run, but Hu Xiaobao caught up with it and killed it with a knife.

Bullets are expensive and must be used sparingly. Using a knife is obviously better.

In this way, Hu Xiaobao brought a yellow sheep back a few hundred meters away, found his horse, and then quickly went to meet up with his other companions.
After gathering together, they found out that he was the only one in their team who had hunted prey, while no one else had.

But it was already very late, so the captain did not delay and ordered to return to the camp.

When Hu Xiaobao and the others returned to the camp, they were shocked because everyone was packing their luggage and seemed to be preparing to leave.

This campsite was decided two years ago, at the end of 1958, around November.

In the middle of last year, Hu Xiaobao and his team renovated the camp again to make it more solid.

But how can we withdraw now?
The reason is simple, this is an order from the superiors.

"Xiaobao, hurry up and pack your own luggage, then report to me immediately with your team leader."

Their captain received the order and shouted to Hu Xiaobao, who immediately responded and rushed away with several of his roommates.

Judging from the situation, the current camp must be moved, but we don’t know where it will be moved to yet.

In fact, the camp where Hu Xiaobao and his team were located was not suitable as a uranium refining site and they had to evacuate.

In the past, they did not have suitable tools for uranium refining, and lacked equipment or technologies such as simplified uranium hexafluoride production processes and highly enriched uranium centrifuges.

There are now quite a few centrifuges, and the simplified production process of uranium hexafluoride has also been brought to the Northwest.

But problems also arose.

Centrifuges consume a lot of electricity, so at the location of the uranium mine, the semi-finished uranium ore is refined and produced using a simplified uranium hexafluoride production process, and then transported to another location.

This place is the uranium 235 production plant with a large number of centrifuges.

The reason for choosing such a location is naturally to enable more centrifuges to operate and speed up the production of more uranium 235.
Running the centrifuge requires a lot of electricity, which means more power plants are needed, so it is definitely not possible to go deep into the Gobi Desert, we have to go close to the Gobi Desert.

After all, only in this way can the thermal power plants built in the outer areas of the Gobi Desert supply more electricity to the uranium 235 refinery.

An atomic bomb requires at least fifteen kilograms of uranium 235, and this is just the amount required during the manufacturing stage.

At present, Qian Sanqiang, Deng Jiaxian, Guo Yonghuai and others are still just developing the atomic bomb, and there may be losses in the process, so thirty kilograms, forty-five kilograms of uranium 235, or even more, are needed to make an explosion.

Just because no one can guarantee that the atomic bomb can be detonated on the first try, if you try a few more times, maybe you can detonate it.

However, it is not easy to build more power plants in the Northwest. How to solve the fuel problem?

What will happen to these power plants after the atomic bomb project is completed?
So these are big issues and we can’t act blindly.

In addition to the centrifuge incident, other linear accelerators, electron multipliers, oscilloscopes, etc. were all put to use. It can be said that the equipment and technologies provided by Zhao Mancang solved the dilemma of "waiting for the rice to cook" that we encountered in the original time and space.

In the original time and space history, by the middle of 1960, we urgently needed to build a set of equipment and produce a batch of qualified products to provide raw materials for the trial operation of the uranium enrichment plant, which became the most urgent priority at the time.

But in this time and space, Zhao Mancang appeared in time and provided a series of equipment including centrifuges before Qian Sanqiang, Huang Shengnian, Ye Zongyu, Yang Huifeng and others completed the heavy water reactor, cyclotron and other related experimental equipment.

Take the heavy water reactor as an example. After the heavy water reactor achieves self-sustaining chain fission, the experimental measurement of fission seeds will naturally be put on the agenda. What Huang Shengnian and his team need to do is to install measuring instruments and equipment in channel zero, but these are not so easy to obtain or self-developed.

Huang Shengnian and his team need to activate channel zero, draw out the neutron beam, and use the drawn neutrons to bombard the uranium sample target.

The uranium sample target absorbs neutrons and undergoes fission, splitting into two fragments and releasing two or more fission neutrons at the same time.

The number of fission fragments and fission neutrons is recorded using a detection system placed around the sample target, and then the average number of neutrons in each fission is analyzed and calculated.

But these processes are not smooth sailing. They may encounter the situation where the recorded number of neutrons far exceeds the actual number of fission neutrons. There is also the possibility that the experimental hall is humid, causing the detection system used for counting to have poor contact and discharge in the engine, resulting in false counts, and so on.

Therefore, Huang Shengnian and his team also needed to add a neutron beam collimator at the horizontal channel outlet, a neutron catcher behind the detection system, etc. At the same time, in order to prevent neutrons from scattering into the hall after the reactor channel is opened, a heavy concrete protective wall also needed to be built around the experimental device.

All these were the troubles encountered in the development of the atomic bomb. Fortunately, after Huang Shengnian, Qian Sanqiang and others completed these tests, the equipment provided by Zhao Mancang also arrived.

What a blessing.

Otherwise, it would have been impossible to complete the construction of the uranium 235 refinery by relying solely on Moscow experts.

Moreover, compared with the original time and space, this uranium enrichment plant is far superior in terms of scale and efficiency in refining uranium 235.

Not to mention anything else, the uranium enrichment refinery in the original time and space took nearly two and a half years and underwent a total of thirteen experiments to ensure that various process experiments and equipment modifications were feasible before starting the production process.

In other words, it was not until mid-1963 that the original time and space ensured that the uranium enrichment plant could provide sufficient raw materials for the first atomic bomb.

But this time and space was directly advanced to the 1960s.

In fact, all they had to do was ensure that the simplified uranium hexafluoride production process, centrifuge and other technical equipment provided by Zhao Mancang were feasible before March 235, and then they could immediately produce the kilograms of uranium needed for the atomic bomb.

The remaining few issues are particularly important, one of which is the ignition neutron source.

The ignition neutron source is one of the important core components of the atomic bomb detonation device. This neutron source does not emit neutrons under normal circumstances. It only emits neutrons when it is necessary to ignite a nuclear explosion and cause a chain reaction in nuclear explosives. Therefore, it is called an ignition neutron source.

Regarding the development of the ignition neutron source, in 1959, Qian Sanqiang handed over this part of the work to Wang Fangding's team to complete.

Right here in the northwest, in the laboratory shed where Wang Fangding and his colleagues were, on the day when Hu Xiaobao and his colleagues moved their camp, Wang Fangding and his colleagues also received equipment shipped from the Tianjin Wharf.

Zhao Mancang didn't know about the changes in the Northwest, but he could guess that the time of the first atomic bomb explosion would definitely be advanced.

At No. 7 Denglai Hutong, Zhao Mancang entered the yard from the main gate.

The two guards at the gate of the courtyard had faces full of amazement and admiration. They were guarding here, so it was natural that they couldn't be unaware of Zhao Mancang, but it was precisely because they knew him that they had such expressions.

Many people in Beijing knew that Zhao Mancang was buried by an avalanche in Moscow, and the two guards naturally knew it too.

They were all buried. It was said that Zhao Mancang had died, but he was standing in front of them alive.

When they received the task before, they were a little bit unbelievable, but now it seems that this is true.

However, Zhao Mancang did not chat with the two guards. He just chatted for a few minutes and then went into the yard.

He had already returned home very late. When Zhao Mancang was touching Xiao Hei's head, Lin Huijun opened the door of her room and stared blankly at the scene in front of her.

The little guy is already six years old this year and has grown a lot.

When she saw Zhao Mancang, she couldn't believe her eyes. The next moment, she rubbed her eyes, looked again, and then she screamed and rushed over.

For a moment, the yard was in chaos. It was really a mess because Xiao Hei was scared.

A few minutes later, in Lin Wan's bedroom, Zhao Mancang hugged Lin Huijun, who was still crying loudly, with a look of laughter and tears. Lin Wan next to him had a look of gloating on her face, and Zhang Dongyue had a complicated expression. As for the two little guys, Xiao Taozi and Xiao Baozi, they stared at their sister with wide eyes, without crying or making a fuss.

Zhang Dongyue was mentally prepared for Zhao Mancang's return, so she was completely relieved when she saw him come back.

Zhang Dongyue was worried because she didn't see anyone.

Only Lin Huijun, although she is a child, can already remember things.

Back in 1958, although Zhao Mancang had only spent a few months with her, which was not a very long time, he had already completely remembered this father.

Although she was not his biological daughter, Zhao Mancang treated her as his own and never let her go without food, drink and play. Of course, he no longer accompanied her after the end of October 1958.

But there's nothing that can be done about it. Zhao Mancang didn't spend much time with Lin Wan, let alone Lin Huijun?
After a long while, Lin Huijun slowly stopped crying under Zhao Mancang's gentle voice, but she still did not let go of her little hands around his neck.

"Mancang, now that you're back, do we really not need to worry anymore? Can we make it public now?"

Zhang Dongyue asked impatiently.

"Mom, no, it will take a few months before we can openly appear," Zhao Mancang shook his head and said:

"I just returned to the capital today, so I can definitely celebrate the Spring Festival with you this year. However, for the sake of confidentiality, only you two should know about this. Don't tell Dad and the others."

Once Lin Guohua and the others find out, there is a high probability that complications will arise.

Although there might be accidents if Zhang Dongyue and Lin Huijun knew about it, they were both relatively easy to control because they could try to reduce the time they spent returning to No. 36, Heizhima Hutong, so this could be avoided.

No. 7, Denglai Hutong is a small courtyard with one entrance and one span. There are enough houses. Not to mention that it is only for Lin Wan, Zhang Dongyue and Lin Huijun, the five of them, even if there are ten people, it is more than enough.

Therefore, if Zhang Dongyue and Lin Huijun stay in Denglai Hutong more often and avoid too much contact with the outside world, the risk of leakage will be infinitely reduced.

On the contrary, Lin Guohua, Lin Kai and Lin Shuxian, the father and son, often come into contact with the outside world. If they are not careful and say too much, it will be dangerous.

"That's fine, that's fine."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Dongyue nodded repeatedly.

For her, as long as Zhao Mancang comes back, everything will be fine, and everything else is empty.

My son-in-law is back, it’s more real than anything else.

Zhao Mancang smiled and said:

"Let's not talk about this anymore. The New Year is coming soon. Have we bought any New Year's goods? Are we still short of food?"

Lin Wan, who was holding the little peach, said immediately:
"Where is the food shortage? The food and other things you brought back last time have not been used up yet."

Zhao Mancang certainly had a rough idea of whether there was a shortage of food at home, but he was not very clear about the details.

Since Lin Wan said so, Zhao Mancang knew it, so he persuaded:
"Haha, it's okay. Although I don't stay in the capital often, I heard that many people in the capital are hungry."

"Not only do you have to feed two children now, you're also pregnant with a baby. You need to eat more and get more nutrition."

"Mom, when you cook at home, try to cook more, but I will be staying at home these days. During this period around the New Year, leave the kitchen to me."

When he said that, Zhang Dongyue rolled her eyes and said, why does a man need to enter the kitchen?

Over in Heizhima Hutong, Lin Shuxian is now responsible for the three meals a day of Lin Guohua and the other two.

In September 1958, Lin Shuxian was already in the third year of junior high school, but in the summer of 1959, she took the high school entrance examination but failed to get into high school.

In fact, she was very confident that she could be admitted to high school, but she was unlucky. During the high school entrance examination, she had a fever for several consecutive days and took the exam while sick, and failed.

Moreover, after the exam, she stayed in the hospital for nearly a week, which cost her a lot of money.

It caused her to lose all confidence.

I finally decided on it in September, and then prepared to repeat the year and continue preparing for the high school entrance examination in mid-1960.

But there was nothing she could do about the situation at home, so she had to be responsible for cooking.

If Zhao Mancang had not "sacrificed" himself and Lin Wan had adopted the little boy, then Zhang Dongyue would not have needed to come to Denglai Hutong to take care of him.

It's a pity no.

In order to cover up her tracks, even if Zhao Mancang came back, Zhang Dongyue would not go back to Heizhima Hutong every day.

At most, we would cook some food and send some meat over there.

After chatting for a while, it was almost eleven o'clock and time to go to bed.

Lin Huijun didn't want to go back to her room to sleep. She wanted to sleep with her father in her arms, but that was definitely not possible.

No matter what, she is six years old and it is time for her to go back to her own room to sleep.

The little guy wanted to act like a spoiled child and cry, but he refused to let go. In the end, Lin Wan had a cold face, and the little guy was wronged and reluctant to let go of his hand, crying:

"Dad, then you have to promise me that I can see you again tomorrow."

"Of course I will. But you have to promise me that you will go back to bed now and not tell anyone that you have seen me. Got it?"

Zhao Mancang felt very distressed, but there was nothing he could do. The little girl had grown up and he couldn't let her do whatever she wanted.

"Okay, then can you put me to sleep? Just like before?"

Lin Huijun made another request, and Lin Wan immediately glared at her and said coldly:

"Lin Huijun, can you say that again?"

The little girl didn't say anything, but just looked at Zhao Mancang with tears in her eyes, hoping that he could speak for her.

"I'll just go and coax her for a while and be back soon." Zhao Mancang couldn't bear it. After all, he had been away for too long, more than a year. The little guy finally had a father, but he was gone again soon. Now that he saw him again, it was normal for him to cling to him and not want to let go.

Half an hour later, Zhao Mancang coaxed the little guy to sleep and returned to the master bedroom.

As soon as Zhao Mancang entered the room, Lin Wan couldn't help but complain: "Just spoil her and pamper her. Sooner or later, you will regret it."

"Aren't daughters meant to be pampered? Calm down, let's go to sleep too."

Holding Lin Wan in his arms, Zhao Mancang said with a smile.

This is the life he wants.

It was beyond his expectation that the little girl Lin Huijun still missed him like this after more than a year.

So if I don’t spoil the little one, who should I spoil?
Compared to running around outside, Zhao Mancang prefers to stay at home, even if it is just to coax the little one, it is also good.

Besides, it is quite interesting to have an extreme tug of war with the little brat, not to mention there is Lin Wan as the judge, so Zhao Mancang is not worried at all.

The next day, just as Zhao Mancang was about to get up, he heard the little guy knocking on the bedroom door.

"Daddy, hurry up and get up, you lazy bastard! I'm already up."

Someone knocked on the door so early in the morning that Lin Wan was furious.

The little brats nowadays are so disrespectful and never stop doing it!
Moreover, it was a little after four in the morning, and she had just finished feeding Xiao Taozi and had fallen asleep for a short time when she was woken up again. It would be strange if she was not angry.

Before Lin Wan exploded, Zhao Mancang quickly put on his clothes and ran away.

At the bedroom door, when Lin Huijun saw him, she immediately smiled like a flower and hugged his thighs. Xiao Hei next to her also came forward, wagging his tail and whimpering, looking very excited.

This is life!
