Chapter 379 The Mushroom Eater's Diary

Chapter 379 The Mushroom Eater's Diary

The door wasn't locked; it opened with a gentle push.

There was a dampness in the room, but it didn't seem dangerous.

After confirming that everything was alright, Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei took the dog inside.

The doors and windows of the house have been sealed off, so you need the dog's eyes to provide light to see inside.

Lu Xi'an asked Gouzi to help check if there were any hidden compartments, while she and Yao Wei inspected the surface items inside the room.

The room was furnished with tables and chairs, and there was a bed in the corner with a thin sheet on it. The sheet was neat and tidy, and looked just as well-preserved as those at the 923 Institute base.

The owner of this "mushroom-eating house" must have been a clean and meticulous person. Someone who keeps the house so clean and tidy doesn't seem like someone who eats mushrooms.

Everyone eating mushrooms here is having a blast!
Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei lifted the sheets, searched under the bed, opened drawers, and moved the table, trying to see if there were any clues left in the room that could reveal who had eaten mushrooms here before.

Then they actually found a notebook and a pen in the drawer.

That pen was broken; the lead had dried out, and you could tell at a glance that it wouldn't write anything.

The notebook is still in good condition. The black cover is thick and soft, and flat. The paper is only slightly blackened in the first half, while the second half is clean and tidy, so it should not have been written on.

"Doggy, is it possible that there's something else hidden here?"

Lu Xi'an asked the first question.

After the dog's eyes blinked twice, indicating that there was nothing there, he picked up the black-covered notebook, opened it, and the first line he saw was:

I found a notebook and a pen. Great, I'll start writing a diary today.

He was suddenly startled; the words looked so familiar.

"What's wrong?!"

Yao Wei noticed Lu Xi'an's unusual behavior and asked him a question.

Lu Xi'an said, "I also saw a notebook and a pen before, and the first line was written like this..."

"what."

Yao Wei was slightly surprised, but she didn't pay much attention to why the two people's diaries were so coincidentally written in the same way. Instead, she became concerned about something else.

"Can I see what you wrote in your diary?"

Yao Wei stared at Lu Xi'an and asked.

"..."

Lu Xi'an paused for a moment, then said, "What's so interesting about a diary!"

He didn't actually think there was anything in the diary that Yao Wei couldn't see. He had already told Yao Wei that he was a time traveler, so he had no secrets from her.

It's just that if Yao Wei saw the complaints in her diary, she would feel somewhat ashamed...

"Oh……"

Yao Wei didn't insist. She simply nodded in response to Lu Xi'an's words.

But Lu Xi'an could tell that Yao Wei's expression had become somewhat unhappy, so he said, "I didn't write anything in my diary. The notebook is in my bag. I'll get it for you when we get in the car." Yao Wei then cheered up again and nodded, "Okay."

The two continued reading the diary.

This diary differs somewhat from Lu Xi'an's; it doesn't have dates, but rather consists of individual entries, each containing one or more paragraphs separated by a single line.

The diary entries that followed were indeed records of what happened after the mushroom-eating man found the diary.

The diary and pen were found by the mushroom eaters in the mushroom forest. Lu Xi'an suspects that the so-called mushroom forest is the area he and Yao Wei just passed through.

The diary says that when the mushroom eater found the diary, he saw that several pages had already been written and drawn on, and then it was abandoned in the mushroom forest.

The pages with writing on them looked like scribbles, probably the illusions drawn by someone who was hallucinating from eating mushrooms in the mushroom forest.

Lu Xi'an was curious about what kind of paintings would be made by someone who ate too many mushrooms, but unfortunately he never had the chance to see them.

The mushroom eaters tore up those pages of paper back then to use for wiping their bottoms. Now, those hallucinations created by mushroom eaters have probably turned to dust, becoming nourishment for the mushrooms in the mushroom forest.

The mushroom eater who wrote in his diary said that this mushroom forest was really powerful. Fortunately, he was a new human and still had some resistance. Otherwise, he probably wouldn't have made it out of the mushroom forest.

After coming out, they found this house. The mushroom eater cleaned it up, made a table, chairs, and a bed, and arranged them all in the house. He also put the sheets he brought from elsewhere on his wooden bed.

Then he nailed a wooden plaque above the door outside the house, with the five characters "Home of Mushroom Eaters" engraved on it.

Unfortunately, carving characters is much more difficult than writing. He wrote the five characters crookedly and awkwardly, which was really ugly and unsatisfactory, but there was nothing he could do about it.

I've tried several different tablets, but I still can't get it to write well. What can I do?
The mushroom eaters settled down here. Sometimes they would go elsewhere to find something to eat, but sometimes when they were too lazy to move, they would go to the mushroom grove, stay for a short while, and then pick some mushrooms to eat.

He relied entirely on his new human body to tough it out, only getting a little poison each time, and always managed to pull through.

But as time went on, he eventually couldn't hold on any longer. His body grew weaker and weaker, making it increasingly difficult for him to persevere. Even after eating mushrooms, he would experience hallucinations, as if he were transported back to the past.

Several pages were torn from the diary. After the pages were torn out, the mushroom eater wrote them down in the notebook, saying that the torn pages were scribbles he had drawn when he was confused and out of his mind. They were meaningless, so he tore them up.

Lu Xi'an thought to herself, "It's meaningful, I want to see it," but she could only think about it in her heart. They've already torn each other apart; who knows how many years have passed since then? What's the point of me wanting to see it?
He turned to the last page of the diary and saw a few passages:

I'm getting worse lately; the time I spend feeling dizzy after eating mushrooms is getting longer and longer.

I guess I'm getting old. Lately, I keep reminiscing about the past, and after eating mushrooms, I keep fantasizing about the past.

To be honest, I regret it a little. So many years have passed, I should have gone back to visit, but why didn't I?
In this world, I haven't seen many good people, except for that little guy from the north.

I wonder if he still lives there, and if he's grown up?
It must be very difficult...

This damn world, it's so hard to live.

Why did I leave there in the first place?

Forgot, never mind, I don't want to think about it anymore...

It's too late to think about anything now that things have come to this.

I want to go back and visit, but this body can't. Anyway, I've had a very comfortable and happy time here, and I don't regret it.

It's time to die now, might as well go to the mushroom forest. In this bastard world, to have a long dream before going to eternal sleep is truly a wonderful thing!
