My esoteric uncle Jules

Chapter 15 Desire-driven zombies

Chapter 15 Desire-driven zombies

Seeing Jules's behavior, Steel also became alert:

"Do you still remember that person's appearance and code name?"

Yule frowned and tried hard to recall, but found that all the information about that person seemed to have never existed.

It was as if the extra person before was purely an illusion.

"I'm sorry, I don't remember it at all. Maybe... I really saw it wrong?"

Steel just shook his head firmly:

"No matter what, we must remain vigilant—the enemy is in the dark, and we are in the light. If they are determined to hide, it will be difficult for me to detect them. But if they want to attack, I can react in the shortest possible time."

As he said this, the skin of his hands glowed faintly with a red light, as if there was a destructive power hidden in them.

It was something far more deadly than the pistol he held.

……

The light was dim, so everyone had to carry lanterns.

Everything in the cabin looked like it had been washed by sea water - seaweed, shellfish, and a few dead fish that had not had time to dive into the water.

It was slippery everywhere and smelled foul.

Yule held the compass in his hand for a moment and then said:

"It's probably in the engine room."

He didn't know the structure of the Titanic in detail, but he certainly knew more than the others.

Hearing this in the engine room, several people in the team frowned.

"The engine room? That place is probably completely submerged in water."

"Why is it in that damn place?"

The engine room was one of the first compartments of the Titanic to be flooded, and it was also the farthest from the main road and the most difficult to reach.

They had all been on a ship before, so they naturally knew how difficult it was to get to that damn place when the ship sank.

Complaints are fine, but the task still needs to be completed.

Everyone had to pass through the complex cabin, holding lights and crawling forward carefully.

The sound of the waves echoed, as if it was going to smash the entire wreckage of the huge ship into pieces.

But inside the cabin, there was deathly silence, with only the sound of people wading in the water.

Along the way, Jules saw many miserable corpses, which made him feel a little sick.

The stench of decay mixed with the fishy smell of sea water penetrated into his nasal cavity, causing him to feel somewhat physically uncomfortable.

The corpses died in extremely miserable conditions. Some had their eyes replaced by barnacles, while others were completely gnawed by fish. The remains of their bones were bleached, their flesh swollen with blood, and it was a scene of hell on earth.

However, several agents from the Anti-Suppression Bureau only frowned and covered their noses at most, while Steel remained calm from beginning to end.

Suddenly, Jules heard some subtle movements in the pool beside him.

Immediately afterwards, a roar was heard!
"What is that?!" He turned around suddenly, only to see a terrifying zombie rushing towards him!
His nerves were tense, and he reacted immediately and tried to dodge to the side.

It's just that he is fast, and there are people who are faster.

Before he could even dodge, the zombie's head exploded!

The zombie instantly fell into the water, and its body began to burn. Even the sea water could not extinguish the flames.

In just a moment, it completely turned into ashes.

Steel glanced at the frightened Jules, put the pistol back on his waist, and said with a faint smile:

"Boy, you're pretty quick on the uptake. That's the quality you need to be an agent."

Steel didn't lie, he really did have the ability to react instantly...

Yule took a deep breath and said in a deep voice:

"Thank you, Captain." No matter what ulterior motives the Anti-Suppression Bureau had, at least at this moment, the other party had indeed protected him.

Steel nodded, motioning for him to continue leading the way.

Along the way, there were more zombies than Yule had imagined.

In the team, other agents also began to show their special abilities, which made Yule understand one thing - no matter how weak a person is, he is much stronger than an ordinary person if he can become an agent of the Anti-Suppression Bureau.

"They should all be transcendents who have been promoted to the next level..."

Along the way, Jules just watched everything from an outsider's perspective, occasionally firing a few shots to liven up the atmosphere.

Therefore, he could focus more on observing the zombies, which also made him discover something wrong.

Those without eyes are fine, but for those zombies with eyes, their eyes are not crazy and irrational as the stereotype, but are extremely smart.

Like a starving person, there was a frightening glint in his eyes.

That light is called "appetite".

boom!
Jules fired a shot and set on fire the zombie in front of him that had merged with the octopus's flesh and blood. Amid the latter's wailing, he slowly approached and observed everything about it.

Suddenly, the sound of steel rang in my ears:

"Dark Crow, what did you see?"

Yule stared at the corpse closely, and after it completely turned into ashes, he finally spoke:
"They... don't seem to be completely dead?"

Upon hearing this, Steel's face showed surprise, which then turned into appreciation:

"Yes, a mere mortal like you can actually see that! Essentially, these zombies aren't completely dead yet. They're still being controlled by their own 'desires'."

He looked around, and with a shot, he activated a zombie lurking in the corner, waiting for an opportunity, and said with a faint smile:
"I'll help you see more clearly."

His muscles suddenly bulged, and then he let out a loud roar, pinning down the zombie that was rushing towards him.

Yule's eyelids twitched as he watched - before this, he had tried to deal with these ghosts in close combat, but after the zombies bent his steel pipes with their bare hands, he no longer considered it.

Unexpectedly, the power of steel is much stronger than these zombies.

Since Gangtie had pinned the zombies down, he might as well take a closer look.

Seeing Jules coming, Steel grinned, took out a small knife, and cut open the zombie's belly, revealing the empty inside - only the skeleton was left, without even a trace of internal organs or flesh.

Yule raised his eyebrows, a little surprised: "So they are just skin and skeleton left?"

From the outside, these zombies look very plump, and you can't tell what they are like inside.

Steel stomped on the zombie's head, causing it to stop struggling, and said calmly:
"They've become monsters, driven entirely by a certain 'desire' rather than flesh and blood. That's why they're so light. I can already guess what the impact this time is; it's probably related to 'appetite'."

Hearing this, an inexplicable light flashed in Yule's eyes.

He suddenly thought of Ruth.

When he first entered the Sixth History Fragment, he was deeply impressed by the other party's extremely light weight and the strange touch of skin like a dead person.

"I have a question for you."

"Go ahead."

"Is it possible for a zombie driven by desire to acquire memories and behavioral logic that are almost identical to those in life?"

Iron thought for a moment, a rare moment, before speaking uncertainly:

"It's possible. I've seen zombies driven by the desire for love before. They were very similar to their living selves. Unfortunately, the noble's ritual to resurrect his lover went awry, ultimately leading to disaster."

Yule's expression did not fluctuate at all, he just said calmly:
"I see. Let's quickly eliminate the source of all this."

He lowered his head, pretending to look at the compass, but in fact, a huge wave of fear had already risen in his heart.

A seemingly shocking, yet reasonable, conjecture gradually took shape in his mind:

Could Ruth in the Sixth History Fragment also be a zombie driven by some kind of desire?
Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a tentacle shooting towards him like lightning!
