Some parts are very interesting, such as the part where officials lose their way in court.

On May 16th, the third year of the Wanli reign, 283 officials were absent from court, each with a one-month salary deduction; in December of the third year of the Wanli reign, 250 officials were absent from court, with salaries ranging from one to three months; on August 3rd, the fifth year of the Wanli reign, 587 officials were absent from court, each with a one-month salary deduction...

This is just the record randomly checked by the on-duty ceremonial officer. The actual situation of the loss of court should be more serious.

Officials during the Wanli reign were extremely capricious, punishing officials at will and refusing to attend court when they should. Furthermore, the late Ming dynasty was characterized by widespread social unrest, with a surge in the number of people who did not farm or work, signaling a period of decline.

The common people dared to offend their superiors, the young bullied the old, the lowly bullied the old, the young officials controlled the government, and the young officials humiliated the nobles, and so on.

For example, in the 44th year of the Jiajing reign, soldiers and civilians from Taiping Prefecture in Nanzhili gathered together to attack the government office and demolish houses due to a timber issue. After reading Mr. Wang Tianyou's "Research on State Institutions in the Ming Dynasty" and Mr. Fang Zhiyuan's "State Power Structure and Operation Mechanism in the Ming Dynasty", you will basically understand the official system of the Ming Dynasty. Compared with the Song Dynasty, the official positions of the Ming Dynasty are much easier to understand.

Mr. Wei Qingyuan's "The Shining Light of the Sunset: Zhang Juzheng and the Political Situation in the Middle and Late Ming Dynasty" is highly recommended. It contains detailed historical materials and is, in my opinion, the best biography of Zhang Juzheng.
