Chapter 306 The Fierce Battle Between the Blood Knight and the Flesh Tearer
On the surface of the planet Kharkiv, the Imperial army's positions are advancing outward at a slow but steady pace.
Under artillery cover, the armored forces advanced cautiously, while the infantrymen advanced carefully, relying on cover.
With each successful offensive, the Empire's double-headed eagle banner would be planted on the new positions, symbolizing the expansion of human power on this battlefield.
The flags fluttered in the smoke of battle, offering a brief boost to the weary soldiers.
However, this expansion also brought new challenges—every time a new area was occupied, troops needed to be stationed there, which led to an even more dispersed troop strength that was already stretched thin.
Commanders from various units kept calling for reinforcements through the communication channels, and the logistics department was scrambling to allocate limited resources.
As the war dragged on, the situation facing Sigismund and Locken became increasingly dire.
Battle reports from the front indicate that the Necromancers are intensifying their attacks, and the Imperial forces are being stretched thin, putting immense pressure on defenses across all fronts.
After weighing the pros and cons repeatedly, the two commanders had no choice but to send the Blood Knights and Flesh Rippers chapters into battle.
Despite their reservations about the Blood Knights and Flesh Rippers chapters, dwindling ammunition and rising casualty figures were urging them to make a decision.
“We have no other choice,” Sigismund said to Loken.
-
Although the Empire has deployed more than a thousand elite Astartes on the planet's surface, these forces are still stretched thin in the face of the relentless onslaught of space undead.
The metal skulls seemed endless; as one batch was destroyed, a new batch would immediately surge in, their green weapons drawing deadly trajectories across the battlefield.
Urgent requests for assistance continued to come from all fronts, and the holographic tactical map of the command center was densely covered with red markers indicating urgent support throughout the entire war zone.
The staff officers frantically updated the data, each flash signifying that another line of defense was in danger.
Out of caution, Sigismund and Locken mobilized only two companies from each of the two battle groups, and had Ventanus, who was in charge of ground command, deploy them in flank defensive positions on the battlefield.
Knowing about the situation of the two armies, Ventanus personally ordered the adjustment of the defensive lines to ensure that the two armies maintained an appropriate distance from other units.
This arrangement can both alleviate the pressure on the front lines and avoid placing these two battle groups in key positions that could cause problems.
Although the flanks may also encounter enemy attacks, the intensity of the battle is relatively controllable and will not become the enemy's main attack direction.
However, despite the headaches of the three commanders, the warriors of the Blood Knights and Flesh Rippers finally got the battle they had been longing for.
Despite being deliberately deployed on the flanks of a location not intended for the main attack, the intensity of the battle far exceeded expectations.
The metallic torrent of space necromancers clashed with the steely will of the Astartes monks on this scorched earth, creating the most devastating sparks.
The Blood Knights' crimson power armor stood out starkly against the dimly lit battlefield, and their tactical style was bloody and brutal.
Two companies of Blood Knights, operating in assault squads, swiftly launched their offensive, piercing the undead's defenses like a crimson dagger.
In close-quarters combat, the Blood Knights displayed terrifying skill.
Wielding roaring chainswords, their leaping backpacks spewing scorching flames, these death angels tore the battlefield apart at astonishing speed. A Blood Knight warrior leaped into the air mid-charge, his power armor and Space Marine's superhuman physique briefly pausing him before swinging his power sword and cleaving a Necromancer's Destroyer in two from head to toe.
Metal fragments and sparks of energy rained down, illuminating the狰狞 (zhengning - ferocious/hideous) face revealed through his broken, spooky gaze.
As the battle continued, some Blood Knight warriors began to exhibit the bloodthirsty signs characteristic of the Blood Angel's offspring.
Their breathing became heavy, and the power armor's monitoring systems issued warnings, but the Death Angels' movements became even more ferocious.
A strike squad of Astartes completely abandoned their defensive stance, their chainswords flashing and leaving afterimages as they aimed to utterly destroy the alien before them.
The Flesh Tearer's fighting style is even more extreme.
Because they had planned to die in battle to atone for their sins, the Flesh-Tearers did not drink the Holy Blessing Wine before setting off, which caused many of them to show some emotional instability.
This brought danger, but also demonstrated the terrifying fighting prowess of the Sons of Saint Gilles.
Their chainsaw weapons played a deathly symphony on the battlefield, the shrieking of the saw teeth tearing through metal mingling with the roars of the sons of Saint Gilles.
A platoon champion of the Flesh Rippers spun and slashed through the enemy ranks, his two-handed, finely crafted chainsaws tearing apart the metal bodies of seven Necromancers, scattering fragments of living metal across the ground.
However, the injury warnings flashing on the visor indicated that he was seriously injured, but he completely ignored them.
What is most shocking is the self-destruction displayed by the Flesh Rippers. A severely wounded Flesh Ripper veteran, after being pierced through the chest by a Gaussian ray, still used his last strength to lunge at a Necromancer Destroyer.
He detonated the molten explosives on his body, completing his final redemption amidst the blazing white flames.
The Necromancers quickly sensed the pressure on their flanks and began to mobilize their elite forces to counterattack.
More Necromancer forces were teleported to the planet's surface and launched a fierce attack on the Imperial Junde positions from all directions, weaving a deadly web of Gaussian rays.
A Doomsday Hunter opened fire from a distance, its green energy beam sweeping across the battlefield, instantly vaporizing three Blood Knight warriors in the light.
But were the Astartes so easily dealt with? The Blood Knights and the Flesh Tearers, with an almost suicidal attack, forcefully repelled the powerful offensive of the Space Necromancers.
When the battle ended, the flank battlefield had been turned into a metal graveyard.
The Blood Knights lost nearly a third of their warriors, while the Flesh Rippers suffered even greater casualties.
Disturbingly, many soldiers lingered on the battlefield after the fighting ended, their weapons still humming, as if ready to continue this eternal slaughter.
The apothecaries had to use holy wine laced with tranquilizers to bring some of the warriors out of combat.
Sigismund remained silent for a long time while reviewing the battle report, his power-armored fingers lingering on the data panel for a long time before finally writing only a somber comment: "They proved their loyalty with blood, but the price... was too high."
The last page of the battle report included two battlefield photos: a Blood Knight banner planted on the remains of a Necromancer Lord, and a Flesh-Tearer shoulder armor melted by Gauss weapons, with its half-destroyed chapter insignia still clearly discernible.
